Taco Maya's selections are endless and they all sound and look delicious! I honestly had a hard time choosing, especially since it was my first time there. They had unlimited fountain drinks (including Horchata) and an open salsa bar. I did not realize how big the portions are so I ordered... a lot. Do I regret it? Not really, the food was delicious! I highly recommend the Nachos Supreme, it was my favorite! If I went back, I would not get the taco plate since I didn't really enjoy the rice and the refried beans. I tried the lunch platter with 3 tacos and rice and beans. I ordered the chicken and shrimp tacos and both were excellent. That also had a salsa bar with different flavor sauces. The platter really filled me up and left no room for dessert. Will be back again to try the fried ice cream. Customer service was excellent. We have been trying to support restaurants during COVID and we were SO lucky to have picked this place. We ordered through DoorDash and everything arrived quickly and was nicely packaged and still warm. It seemed to be very authentic Mexican and everything was delicious. We enjoyed guacamole and chips and the three of us each did a 3 taco plate which was plenty of food. They put each order of three tacos in it's own container which made it easier to Identify what belonged to each person. My husband is a vegetarian and there were lots of options for him. I especially enjoyed a Korean beef and Chile Relleno taco. My daughter got the elote which she loved. The best part for me: the churros! I have never had them and now I know why everyone loves them. This used to be my place to go every Tuesday right before watching a movie at the AMC theater nearby pre-COVID days. They have taco Tuesday deals where you buy two tacos and get the third taco free! The tv monitor was not working. The ordering line was unorganized and the rude f***s would just budge in causing folks to say 'there's a LINE' 'what do you think I'm doin' here?' I love, love the paneer (Indian cheese) and lengua (beef tongue) filling of the tacos! I tried six different tacos and these were my two favorite meat filling. The other four were al pastor, mayan (bacon and steak), carnitas, and shrimp. The tortillas were a bit dry. I do also like the option of salsa bar, but they salsas were thin and not that flavorful. I also appreciate the complimentary basket of warm tortilla chips while waiting for the food. The salsa that came with the chips were unexpectedly really hot (in temperature) and I burned my tongue. I prefer cold fresh chopped salsa. If I do come back out to Niles and have a taste for tacos, I'll come back to try the more Indian influenced items. I use the laudromat down the street from here, so I decided to order some pick-up to take home with me. I ordered the fish tacos and the chorizo tacos. Both were very good!!! The fish taco had a breaded filet which was very moist and flavorful, and the chorizo tacos gave me the option to have either American style toppings or Mexican style toppings. I opted for Mexican. I ordered a side of chips and salsa, which were good, but I felt were very overpriced. I also love that they have a salsa bar where you can get your own sauces for your food. They have your basic mild, medium, and hot as well as avocado salsa. Food was made promptly and ready to go when I got there. I loved that you could try out so many different salsas - what a great touch. Very generous portions with the tacos - nicely seasoned steak tacos, super juicy chicken tinga, chignon (steak, chorizo, jalapeño) had a nice level of spiciness and great flavor, and the signature (steak, bacon, pineapple, chipotle Mayo) was a flavor bomb. So many taco places only serve plain protein w cilantro and onion, which can be pretty tasteless. I loved all the different flavor combinations and can't wait to try more! I had been waiting a long time to come here. My sister works near Taco Madre so she visits routinely and is always telling me how good it is. I finally made the pilgrimage last Thursday so now I can weigh in with my opinion. First, to be clear, Taco Madre is a bit of an Indian-Mexican fusion taco place. I think some of the complaints in the other reviews arise from mismatched expectations. I would say the food here is still pretty close to what you would expect from a regular Mexican taco joint, but there is clearly some Indian influence. So come prepared for that. I ordered one bottle of mango juice (Boing! brand), one paneer taco, and one filet mignon taco from their specials list. Along with this we received a bowl of chips and salsa. The default salsa is a lot like warm marinara sauce, but you can also try other salsas from the included salsa bar. The chips were a worthy companion to the many varieties of salsa. No particular one stood out as being the best - you could tell that the red salsas all had the same base, as did the green salsas. But we still enjoyed gluttonously stuffing our faces with them all the same. The tacos were *almost* perfect. The sauces especially were unique, flavorful, and oh-so satisfying. The paneer taco was topped with an intriguing mint-jalapeno sauce and the filet mignon was topped with an excellent chimichurri. However, the proteins (paneer and meat both) were decent, but not transcendent. I think they were maybe more well-done than I like, especially in the case of the filet mignon. My sister is in love with the shrimp tacos on the specials menu. She wouldn't let me try even one bite because she loves them so much. So that might also be worth trying the next time you stop in. I know I will have to - assuming it's still on the menu. The mango juice was okay, but I would probably be more interested to try the horchata next time. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, and the service was very good. I also really enjoyed the Spanish music they were playing - very cool and peppy. Final verdict: I would happily come here again, and hope I can return sooner than later to try the other intriguing items on the menu. EDIT: I forgot to mention that we picked up some churros to go. They are about half the size of a "full length" churro and you get six of them, along with a caramel sauce and a decadent chocolate sauce for dipping. I really liked the chocolate sauce, but the churros had some kind of an unexpected filling. Maybe I am just a churro novice. They were really good anyway and we happily ate them all. read more

I love that they have a salsa bar, with more than just your red and green salsa and more like what you might see in a Hispanic grocery store. The great Yelp reviews led me to this restaurant but after one visit here, the food and experience fell below my expectations. The space is modern and inviting; plus it had plenty of seating. Unfortunately, a lot of the food we ordered was bland. Good Mexican food usually has an abundance of flavor. I didn't get any of that. I ordered a 3 taco plate (a combo of Mahi Mahi and Steak) with rice and beans and the whole dish tasted flat. It totally lacked in delivery and I left very disappointed. In addition to this, they messed up my order. I initially requested guacamole and sour cream to add to my tacos but when the server brought my plate over, they were nowhere to be seen. I already paid extra for these items and saw them charged on my receipt. Perhaps it was human error and they forgot? They apologized after I mentioned it but I would have appreciated a comp for this. Regardless of the mistake, the food couldn't make up for the mediocre experience. Our complementary chips and salsa were decent. To my surprise, the chips had a subtle cinnamon finish to it. The Chicken quesadilla was the only dish proving to be halfway decent. This being the only thing worth ordering, save your money. I wouldn't order anything else. read more

I haven't been here a while and I wasn't too satisfied with my latest visit. I ordered the 3 taco plate with rice and beans. My taco selection was spicy potato, paneer, and chili relleno. The spicy potato was not good whatsoever. I had one bite and that was it. It had a lot of potential but the potatoes were not cooked. Nothing worse than biting through hard potato cubes. The chili relleno is very greasy but decent flavor. No complaints with the paneer taco. The rice had hard pieces which I'm not sure how that happened. I ordered a flan as well. Very very eggy. Ok, so I hate writing something negative about a business, especially during unprecedented times, like a global pandemic. So, I'm not knocking off a star as I love this place and the owners/staff are great! My update is that we've carried out food a couple of times recently and the tacos were NOT up to par in regards to the standard that Taco Maya started off with. I'm not sure if the kitchen staff/ cooks/chef have changed? We ordered grilled chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, fish tacos, and carnitas tacos. The Tortillas were hard and stale tasting and something just lacked in the flavor department. And my shrimp tacos had some skin/shell in it. We love Taco Maya and are hoping this was just an off night! I'm going to guess that's the case. If you're thinking about trying it out, please do. Just hoping owners can make some tweaks to get back to the bar they themselves set. read more

Here's a tip: do not order tacos for delivery. I expected the tacos to be wrapped in foil like most restaurants do but they were placed together in containers and things got a little mixed up. I am not a big fan Tacos or maybe I should I was not until recently. My colleague at work was talking about tacos the whole day and I started craving for them by the time I reached home. Since this place being close to where I Iive and was on my list to checkout I decided to give it a try. Place is tidy, looks as if it got more room guess due to the way seating is arranged. I have not tried the dine in experience though. I had to take a carry out, and they were having lot of carry outs coming at the same time to I had to wait for some time to get my order. I ordered falafel Taco and I guess something chicken was on their special that day. They do have salsa bar on the side with 6 different types of salsa. By the time I got home my food turned out bit cold why I decided I should try dining in next time. The flavors are still intact and tasted good for my choice. Based on my experience I would recommend placing your order prior so that you can avoid wait, this place gets busy at times as I've heard so by reputation. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this Taco Maya. I have been here DOZENS of times and they have never once let me down. If you're eating in the restaurant you order at the counter and then find a table. They give you free chips which are seasoned so well its hard not to fill up on them. They also have a large salsa bar with at least 6 different types to choose from. I always get the signature taco and my s.o. gets the chignon. These tacos are melt in your mouth delicious and authentic. They also have a buy two get one free special on Tuesdays. We've ordered doordash from here and the tacos are always fresh, hot, and just as yummy. The guac is homemade and to DIE for but its also like $8. They also serve beer, Mexican coke, and horchata. OOOHMMM NOM NOM until I ran out of NOMs. If you read my short review above and still haven't decided to order almost any flavor of taco from Taco Maya, I hope a more robust taco review below will sway your opinion... let me extrapolate: I have eaten no less than 10 tacos from Taco Maya, probably more, and in each instance it was a tasty bite. In fact, I'm getting hungry for their tacos now... The Dorado fish tacos are an excellent go-to solution for friends observing lent, those who are pescatarian, and those who are avoiding chicken and red meat, though honestly all the various flavors (I particularly enjoy the steak myself) are worth trying, and I've found that 3 tacos is the upper limit of portion size for most adults I know who have had them. If you try the burrito, you'll likely only need one, as they are BIG! I'd also highly recommend trying the guacamole as a side dish to spoon onto your main dish while eating, though Taco Maya also have an array of salsa choices you can try on the side, and they were all quite tasty as well. You can get rice and beans to round it out, though in most cases I opt for a fourth taco and skip the sides. Why? Because OM NOM NOM, that's why! YUM! Thanks Taco Maya! I was just trying to find someplace that I haven't been before and I found Taco Madre 8610 W. Golf Road just west of Milwaukee Ave in a little strip mall. I think the one guy told me they have only been open about 5 months. The restaurant was very clean with a nice interior decor. The booths had the colored patterned material so frequently seen in Mexican blankets and shawls. They provided chips (ehh) so so and a hot salsa scooped by the register. There is also a condiment bar where an assortment of different salsas are available. Salsas such as avocado (mild), salsa de verde (mild), Chipotle sauce (mild) great flavor, but it needed a little heat so I added the habanero sauce (hot) & jalapeño sauce. They also have pickled jalapeños with carrots & onions & jalapeño and red onions. There is too much selection for 3 tacos. I ordered 3 speciality tacos and they were all excellent flavors. They came very nicely presented above and beyond your conventional Taco joint, but not up to par with the aesthetic presentation of T & B Grill. 1) Meat w/chorizo, bacon, jalapeño, cheese, onion & cilantro 2) Shrimp Taco - w/lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions & Lime 3) Mahi Mahi Taco - fried pieces of Mahi Mahi lightly breaded very good with a slight crunch w/onions, tomatoes, lettuce, avocado & lime Overall it was a very good dining experience and someplace that I would go to again. read more
