I was out late Saturday night and didn't have dinner yet, so checked on Yelp! to find a new restaurant that was open late and that I haven't tried before. I found the Burrito House in Niles. The hours are not accurate on Yelp! (Already suggested the edit) - they are open until 2 AM on Saturdays not 5 AM, so I wasn't able to dine in as I arrived at 1:40 AM. Cashier appeared to be bothered I came in to order food anyways, I wouldn't have came in if I knew this beforehand, but I ordered for take out regardless. I tried the 3 taco dinner (steak, onion, cilantro and cheese). The portion is pretty big - the tacos are a big size and the plate will fill you up. However, the steak lacked flavor and there were a lot of charred pieces - not really that good overall. The hot sauces weren't really hot as well, more bland - the food definitely needs more flavor, more spice/marination/seasoning. For almost $20, I expected much better food. It's nice to have restaurants open this late, but there's just better Mexican food out there. read more

I am happy to discover that experience was the exception, not the rule. I needed A quick dinner and was craving some Mexican food. I ordered ahead in the phone and was told 10 min. Boy was this a walk down memory lane. I came back for the first time in seven years since high school to. A quick takeout order. I don't know if they've had a renovation, but the entire ordering experience was a breeze. We got a lengua burrito and two carnita tacos to go. The lengua burrito was marvelous. The meet was soft, tender, and juicy. It's also great for splitting in half with someone else! The tacos were okay. They were overloaded with toppings and didn't hold up as well for takeout due to the extra moisture of the lettuce, cheese, crema. Has definitely gone downhill. No long lines like I usually experience waiting in for pickup. In the past the lines would be to the door and out of the door trying to find parking. Now I know why. The pepper for this dish was not even spicy. Felt so bad for a place that had the best chile rellenos in the heydays (pre-pandemic) piping hot that sang to my soul everytime I bit into it. Those days are long gone. I also ordered the Steak Fajita burrito jr it was way less filling versus in the past LOL now I understand what people are crying about as of late with the meat switch. The cut of meat they used to make was delicious and tender good cut of skirt steak this is a pathetic excuse of steak butchered up into small pieces that reminds me of dog meat grade beef lol it was borderline gamey/gritty for some bites versus other bites being a normal cheap taco filling. This use to be my spot with various friends and family years back when I use to be in the area. Middle School, High School and even my first year in college this was a place we'd go to get food often. Be sure to ask for their escabeche on the side. It adds a nice crunch to your order changing the profile. It's got spice and crunch. You can eat like a king wo/breaking the bank. They also have very late hours if you have a craving for late night Mexican food. I went there yesterday and ordered a mini chorizo burrito. Normally I would have gotten a king sized burrito, but I ordered the mini instead for $4.75 plus tax. This was more than enough to satisfy my hunger. I know most people eat too much (myself included) & tend to eat much more then what is really needed a bad habit I'm trying to break.
