I love this place! I had the grilled wild-caught Alaskan fish salad bowl with brown rice and it was delicious. Very fresh and healthy, a nice twist on your average Mexican fast casual restaurant. I got used to the spectacular food at the Orange Taco Mesa so when I moved to Mission VIejo I was happy to find a Taco Mesa nearby. Sadly, this is nothing like the one in Orange. I tried it three different times to see if it was just a one time issue, but each time I was disappointed. We got cold food on one occasion, oily food on another visit, and waited 30 minutes for PART of our order the third time. There are other Taco Mesa's in Mission Viejo, but I haven't tried them yet. I gave this joint another try for the steak burrito. And once again they gave me enough meat to make a taco. You would think that 10 bucks would buy you a decent sized burrito. Even the cashier commented when my order was ready. Why did they make you a baby burrito. This will be the last time I go to Taco Mesa. The cook is a jerk to his contact workers. I can tell this place is under new management but it's so good still!!! The lady at the front was sooo nice! I didn't catch her name but she had a cool tattoo on her arm and blue mascara she was super sweet. I got the lobster taco it was delicious. The wet bean and cheese burrito and the carnitas tacos are good too. My boyfriend likes the el pastor. They also have good fresh squeezed healthy juices. I love Taco Mesa. Great Mexican food with a twist. They have more healthy options that a typical Mexican joint. The patio is pet friendly, although shared with the Starbucks which attracts groups of spoiled teenagers. read more

We were looking for a Taco Mesa closer to home as we love the original in Costa Mesa. Sadly to say this is not even close to the original. We ordered baja fish tacos, what we got was a piece of fish on a tortilla with dry pico de gallo,no cheese no sauce. We asked the manager about it and he said that's the way they make them in Baja. We replied that's not how they make them in Costa Mesa. The key to having a franchise is to make sure your food is the same as the original, the only thing the same was the diet coke. Our family dined for the first time at the Ladera Ranch location. The food was mediocre but nothing over the top; it was almost consistent with Rubio's. The kids did not like the cheese quesadillas noting that cheese tasted "funny" to which I agreed that the cheese did have a different taste. The air conditioning was not working properly and as such it was very uncomfortable to sit in the restaurant. I asked the cashier about the A/C and he said it never works properly. In addition, they had on their TV a mixed-martial arts event that had multiple fighters and the blood and violence that accompanies MMA. Not exactly a family friendly environment! They should have know better but it just reinforces my position that management was not attentive or connected to their customers. Another couple next to us with much younger children actually had to reposition their children away from the TV to prevent them from watching. They were very understaffed for a Friday night at 6:30 pm, with one cashier and only 2 personnel preparing the meals. I spent about 10 minutes in line just to place my order and about another 20+ minutes before the food was ready. I won't go back again. The service, food and environment just didn't make the grade. read more

I heard a lot about this restaurant so I finally tried it last week. The people were nice and when I told them it was my first time eating there they took extra time to talk to me and explain all the choices. I ordered the fried chicken tacos and they were good! The only thing I ever ordered from here is their carne asada burrito. It's a decent sized burrito and the carne asada is tender. Overall, it's a good local place for quick Mexican food. I used to go once a week until I discovered Alberta's or Alberto's off Marguerite across the street from Saddleback College. TM uses better quality ingredients but I just love Al's because it reminds me of my broke college days. But I'm still a fan of TM. read more

Coming back home today from a soccer tournament in Escondido we stopped off here for some Mexican food as we all were craving cheese enchiladas. Went in not sure as to we should eat here or not. Decided to give it a try as the kids n wife were pretty hungry. Pretty disappointed. Ordered 4 enchilada Combos that come with rice and beans plus 2 tacos de carnitas and 4 regular fountain drinks. Total was 53.00 plus dollars. Not bad but not cheap either. Anyway went to the salsa bar and got the different salsas they have plus the guacamole one too. Was expecting at least a basket of chips to eat before our meal arrived. Didn't happen. Finally got our order. They serve you on paper plates !!! Really ???The 4 enchilada plates were cold and it just seemed like the dipped the tortillas in a sauce filled them with cheese and brought them out. Most places run the plate through a small oven where they come out hot and the cheese melted. The cheese on these was not melted. The rice was ok but the beans were also cold and they were not refried as they should be. The salsas lacked any flavor whatsoever and made the meal that much worse. No kick whatsoever. After this lack luster meal I went to the bathroom and read the reviews posted on the wall. Turns out that the owner was a cook at El Torito for 22 plus years and that's exactly what I tasted. El Torito bland style mex food lacking any flavor. Perhaps because of the slim pickings in this area with good Mexican food places , the locals think this is awesome Grubb. I disagree read more

This place has really gone downhill. I used to come years back for the great tacos. Came today for the first time in a long while and both the food and service was lacking. We ordered a shredded beef taco, a steak taco, fish taco, chicken taco, and enchiladas. Nothing was tasty. Each item was very bland and soggy. Even the salsas were lacking in spice and flavor. We waiting about 35 minutes for our items, and we're quiet disappointed once we received our food. I can't say we will come back anytime soon. read more

Granted I'm from the East Coast, but I'd like to think I can tell good Mexican from bad, and Taco Mesa can certainly holds its own. The types of salsa are many, and they were all very fresh. My buddy, Cliff, customized a breakfast burrito with eggs, beans, cheese, avocado, and pork carnitas. It was one of the best in recent memory. We split this, and then shared chicken enchiladas with beans, rice, and crumbled white cheese. This was also very fresh. First of all, the wait to order was long. When my son ordered a side of rice and beans, they forgot to include it with his quesadilla. They also need to list main ingredients like squash in English on the menu. My other son ordered the omelet without realizing calabaza means squash. I tried this place for the first time tonight and I liked it. The staff was extremy friendly and even offered to refill my water after I was done eating and had begun doing work on my laptop. It was a clean establishment and I thought the menu was straightforward. I ordered the blackened fish burrito and enjoyed it. It took about 15 minutes to come out from when I ordered it, but that should be expected when the food is so fresh. I will definitely be back soon! read more
