The salsa is very good with cilantro and not too spicy which is how we like it. The shredded beef is a pleasant change from the greasy hamburger at most Mexican restaurants. Recently prices were raised and we do not go quite as often, but the food is good even if the value is not as good as previously. The outside is bright orange, but the interior is warm and gaudy, which is fine. Pepsi is served, which I prefer over Coke products at other restaurants. All in all, very good food. read more

Decided to stop in for lunch. We are new to the area and trying to find our go to Mexican restaurant. The outside looks a little outdated but there was a good crowd of cars so decided to give it a try I ordered the beef taco salad. It came out quickly. It was the shredded beef instead of ground. Had a horrible experience for a take out order restaurant in this restaurant. The order taker added incorrectly added an item which I did not ask for and charged for it. When I called and spoke to Antonio the duty manager, first he said he will give the cash back, then wanted to cancel and re ring the order. I told him we were coming from Durham, and it was so inconvenient for us to come back and just to process the refund, but he insisted that we go back there. When we went back, they asked for the food back, cancelled it, re rang it again to the same amount - at which point, we just left without taking the food. And we have been regular customers there. I wish the owner would get in touch, as I sent them a message also via their web page. Poor service. read more

Horrific!! Quite possibly the worst place to even walk into thinking they serve anything but the worst F^+^% food I've had in my travels in the last year. The enchiladas were quite literally corn tortillas wrapped around soggy boiled chicken with cheese melted on top. Maybe we came on an "off" night but our experience was nothing special. The place was dead (one other table sitting when we arrived at 645pm), restroom was out of soap (except a jar of watered down sanitizer mixed with hand soap?). Food was VERY salty, they didn't have "ground beef" for tacos, queso was extremely thin and runny. My wife and I ordered Sangria to learn later they were out, so we ordered a margarita instead. I'm not positive, but the Strawberry Margarita tasted like a canned Straw-berrita (I surely hope not). This was a huge MISS for our family. I want to start this review off with it has been several months since I have been to this place. However I will never go back to see if they have improved. I started going there because they have cheap beer and who doesn't like Mexican food. Well when your food served with a roach with it it doesn't matter how cheap the beer is I don't recommend going back. I'll start to draft my review as I sit here waiting for my meal. To be blunt, I picked this place for lunch today due to the fact that I saw many Hispanics stopping here to eat. I have always said "if you want good Mexican food follow the Mexicans". No, it's not overly profound, but it is a system that has never let me down. Now that my food is out and I have tried it, my system still stands the test of time. The salsa is some of the best I've had outside of a border state. It's a little on the watery side, but the flavor is spot on. I'm having the Lunch Combo #3. Chile relleno with a chicken enchilada. Both are good. The fourth star isn't so much for the food, that's hard to get from me, but they accomplished it by feeding me a very tasty and fulfilling [non-fast-food] lunch quickly for under ten bucks. Taco Mexico just looks awful from the outside, it looks a place you would see people buying drugs from in a police show. But on the advice of the reviews we decided to try it anyway. When you walk inside you are pleasantly surprised with a clean inviting well decorated Mexican restaurant. We ordered a couple of margaritas, a quesadilla, and a burrito and taco combo. The margaritas we had were terrible, they tasted like pure lime juice. The food was good, but not better than any other Mexican I have had in the area. So based on the exterior that looks like a crack house, the terrible margaritas and average food, but contrasted by the pleasant surprise that when you get inside that you are actually not in a crack house I would say the place is average at best. I will probably stick to the typical Mexican places found in most shopping plazas. read more

Their lunch menu appears to be the same formula menu that many mexican restaurants have (ie. the Speedy Gonzales lunch special), but that is because lunchers demand quick service, not carefully prepared fresh food. The dinner menu contains many items not found in the area. It's going to take many trips there for me to try them all. My dinner was excellent. The asada tacos were unbelievably good and the taco sauce is spicy enough to send you into next week - it is not for the cowardly. If you're looking for crunchy ground beef tacos ala Taco Bell, don't go here. If you're looking for authentic tacos, you'll be in heaven. Finishing off my last taco was a gluttonous effort, but I managed. This place is _not a dump_. Yes, the parking lot is gravel - but who cares? If you're getting dressed up in designer duds to go to dinner, this is not the place for you. This is also not a place to go if you're going to act like a food snob, or worse, a "foodie". While we were there, a foodie couple came in. Luckily we were at the end of our meal and were able to leave before their food reviews got very far, although we got a good laugh when they started raving about the salsa. My friend in Apex swears by Tacos Mexico, and I was skeptical as a huge Mexican enthusiast. Tacos Mexico is a good taco shop, especially from the apparent lack of taco restaurants in the Apex area. I've had better tacos in Raleigh and Durham, but Tacos Mexico does make a mean enchilada. Their salsas is chunky and full of vegetables, which I really prefer over the sheer liquid salsa a lot of places try to serve in this area. I would go back again, especially when in Apex, and would recommend it to people in the area. read more

I was skeptical whether this place would be authentic Mexican food but once I sat down ordered an Horchata and looked at the menu, I knew I'd leave full and happy. Fish Tacos are out of this world, not fried which tastes fresher to me. My friends had the Fajitas, Spinach enchiladas and Pollo Con Crema which they all went silent once they started eating. I am a fan of tacos mexico. My wife had heard through a friend at work that it was the place to go for more authentic mexican food. The first time I went, I was pleased with the meal but it didn't wow me but I am glad I gave it a second chance because I was pleasantly surprised with my second visit. They have some very creative dishes but you can also get your classic fajitas or tacos. The place is never really busy which is ashame and it might have something to do with the fact that the place doesn't really look like much from the outside. Authentic, reasonable prices, and friend staff. Have eaten in as well as ordered out many times. The portions are great. You can eat dinner and have enough for left for lunch the next day. I love that they let you have corn tortillas instead of the flour ones. If you've never tored them this way, you should. Much more authentic and also gluten free! Everything looks and tastes house made, right down to the guacamole and salsa. BTW... when you order out and ask for salsa at most mexican restaurants, they give you a tiny plastic container that a ship won't even fit in for dipping. Here, they literally give you a large cup with lid filled to the top with the house salsa. Very nice. You can also get dipping sauces of different spice levels as well as tomatillo if you'd like. All are great. The carne asada is excellent and comes in a double flat grilled corn tortilla with steak, guacamole, tomato, and dipping sauces. Very tasty. Dining out for me is about flavor and Tacos Mexico delivers. We originally learned about Tacos Mexico from a neighbor who had actually lived in Mexico. Since then, Tacos Mexico has become a regular restaurant in our eating out rotation and has been there for more than 5 years. Admittedly it is not the most elegant atmosphere. Frankly, that is not why you go there. This place is about food and all about the food. So much so, that just about every time we have been there, we see people originally from mexico eating there. At Mexican restaurants I find that the experience with salsa and chips carries through to the food. Good salsa typically means good food and vice versa. Tacos Mexico has excellent salsa (only beaten by my wife's salsa). When you go to Tacos Mexico, you have to ask for Salsa Verde and the hot sauce. We go back simply for their Salsa Verde - it is divine. We typically get their Fajitas (get them with black beans) but we have tried other dishes and they have all been good. Every now and then they also have Pineapple Water or Tamarind Water. I have not seen either at any of the other Mexican places. Both these drinks are a unique and excellent experience when they are available. Their flan is good as well. Even their chicken fingers (yes my kids get them occasionally) are better than other places. The chicken fingers have corn in the batter. Overall, off the chart in terms of flavor. Do me a favor, don't tell your friends about it. I want to continue to be able to get a table when the craving strikes. read more

It seemed like there was only one person working, and while he was dealing with someone agreeing about a bill, it shouldn't be that hard to get someone seated. Will try again sometime. read more

The salsa is nothing to rave about and the chips didn't seem cooked in house, cold...like they were poured out of a bag or made earlier that day. My son and I went last night. Not busy at all. Waitress was not at all friendly even though we came in with big smiles on our faces. Salsa was good - on the spicy side which I like. Chips seemed stale, or maybe it was just the style. Kind of think and grainy tasting. Not the thin and crispy ones I prefer. Food was good. Enchiladas with green sauce. Nice portions. When my wife and I want to go out for Mexican, we look no further than Tacos Mexico. Its a little bit of a drive from our house - but its well worth it! Sure - the place doesnt reside in a big, fancy builidng like many of your local "Torrero's/Rodeo's" chain restaurants, but thats what makes this place unique. The menu items are authentic mexican and they use authentic herbs, and spices for their seasonings. I always get the tacos with carne asada and they never fail to impress me. Took our Mom there for Mothers's Day. Excellent food, service, and ambience. They have a new menu and have completed some appealing renovations. But make no mistake, it good Mexican food at reasonable prices in a family friendly restaurant. With the best frozen margarita's anywhere in central NC. I had fish taco's which were lightly breaded accompanied with a tasty tender cabbage slaw in soft four tortillas, and some awesome hot green salsa (on the side, I added it). Others at my table had the fajita Texana, chimichurra, burrito, chile relleno, coctel de Camaron (shrimp and avocado in spicy cold tomato soup), among other dishes. Chips and homemade salsa come to your table the moment you sit down. And there is wait staff that is friendly and eager to be of help. On Mother's Day, each woman at the table (4 of us) received free, a beautiful flan topped chocolate cake that was light and exquisite! You should go. Now. They are a local treasure. read more
