We recently moved into the area so we are starting to check out places. We decided to come here tonight for dinner. When we arrived, we asked for a table of two and instead of asking where we'd like to sit they immediately offered us a table outside and then the next table they tried to offer us was right in front next to the hostess desk so we had to ask for another table if not, we opted to go to the bar and they finally gave us a table. When we sat down, our server came up to us right away. They delivered chips and salsa, which were delicious. I do appreciate that they gave us our own salsa dish for the two people in our party for dinner. The cocktails are massive. They come in 20 ounce and 40 ounce sizes. I had the pineapple jalapeño margarita which was good although I did not taste a lot of tequila. We started with the three dip appetizer, which was guacamole, queso, and bean dip, all of which were so good. For dinner, I had the grilled steak tacos. My husband had the shrimp and chorizo tacos. Everything tasted delicious. They both came with a side of rice and beans, which were also very good. The flavors were there. I would recommend going here. Dinner was pretty affordable and it's a lot of food. I would definitely just space out the timing of your food cause once we put the order in for our entrées came out within five minutes that would be my only thing that I did not like about it was how quickly the food came out. We ordered dessert to go and both my husband and I were shocked at how big this Chocoflan was. It looks delicious. We can't wait to try it. I am sure we will be back. read more

I've never seen a restaurant go downhill so quickly. At first, it was a lively place with great service and good food and reasonably priced large margaritas. My go to was the chicken flautas or enchiladas or fajitas. But something has changed in the last few months for the worse. They have a fancy new menu, and everything went up in price. And the food comes in about five minutes now, which tells me that it's prepared in advance and assembled quickly. The fajitas are never sizzling anymore, and the chicken is lukewarm and tough. The side dish of beans and rice with the fajitas is clearly not fresh and has an off taste. This chain is probably growing too quickly and losing track of quality. I saw this happen with Mi Cancun. The location in Apex is already losing business. You can tell it's not as busy as it used to be. Wake up management you're about to lose a good thing. read more

We've been regulars at Mezcalito for years -- the food has always been a cut above, and the brunch menu is genuinely one of the better values around. We've recommended this place more times than I can count, so it genuinely pains me to write this. Today's Sunday brunch was a frustrating experience from start to finish. The wait was long, which we've come to expect and honestly never minded because the food made it worth it. What made today different was the service. One person in our group never had their order put in. We only found out when everyone else's food arrived -- after an already lengthy wait. Getting our server's attention to correct it was its own ordeal, and by the time the missing order finally came out, the rest of the table had long finished eating. To top it off, the music was blasting at a volume that made it impossible to hear each other across the table. At Sunday brunch. We asked our server to turn it down and were told the manager said it couldn't be done. I genuinely don't know what to do with that answer. The food, as always, was good -- and that's the only reason this isn't a one-star review. We'll give it another chance because the kitchen hasn't let us down. But the service today was unforgivable, and someone in management needs to know that. read more

After a morning ride on the greenway, seventeen of us descended here, ravenous and thirsty!! They had a table ready, and chips were on the table before we were fully seated! The lunch menu was in effect, so we were able to have plenty of great food (along with a few curvases!) to rebuild our strength for the remainder of the day. Our server was fairly attentive, and I was seated quickly after I told them I'd spent the whole day standing. The beans were better than most other places I've been. Really nice Latin atmosphere. You know, it's a good place to eat when it's packed even the people sitting outdoors on the patio when it's chilly and windy outside. The servers were very friendly and knowledgeable. Although I wondered why they put a party of two at a table for six. The appetizer of chorizo queso was delicious and one of the best I've had. I ordered the enchiladas De Camaron when I saw on the menu it came with Diablo sauce. I'm glad I did. It was delicious with just the right amount of heat. I didn't realize my head was sweating until I walked outside and felt the air conditioning affect in my hair. My friend really liked the burrito they had. I've been to this place once before, and like most Mexican restaurants, I tried the ACP because that's how I usually write a place. And their ACP was just average. I came to Mezcalito in Apex to celebrate Father's Day, and it was a great experience. The whole staff was welcoming. I ordered the pastor quesadilla, it wasn't my favorite. I'll definitely stick to their ACP. I just wasn't the biggest fan of the pineapple they included in and on top of the pastor quesadilla, it was too sweet for my liking. Other than that, I enjoyed Mezcalito. Their ambiance is the best they even have a live mariachi band playing in the restaurant, which I found so cool and epic! Grabbed dinner from here recently with the fam and enjoyed myself. Parking was super easy since there's a big lot. We came pretty early for dinner and were therefore seated immediately - I'm not sure whether you'd have to wait to get a seat if you came during peak hours, but it's a pretty large restaurant so I imagine you'd be fine. Our server did a reasonably good job throughout the meal, although I would have preferred him to swing by our table a little more frequently. Food-wise, the complimentary chips and (red) salsa were pretty good! The salsa was a tiny bit spicy without being overpowering. For my entree, I ordered the spicy steak tacos, while my wife got the King Burrito. The rice and black beans that came with the tacos were decent but maybe a little underseasoned. The tacos were yummy and tasted very fresh, although the spiciness was kind of smoky (versus a green salsa, for example) and not totally my cup of tea. I'll just order something different next time :) My wife enjoyed her burrito, too, although it was massive! I guess the "King" descriptor was accurate :) The prices weren't cheap but they were nothing crazy. Overall, we really liked visiting Mezcalito and definitely plan on coming back! read more

Just did a review on the Durham location and clearly I was so impressed I had to check out the Apex location. If you've seen that review you'll remember I said the Durham location was definitely the place to go for a party. The Apex location wasn't as hype but in a good way. We didn't eat inside so I can't speak to the noise level but it seemed reasonable when we checked in with the hostess before heading back to the patio. The music was still great but it was more lowkey, very family friendly. We enjoyed the evening breeze while it sprinkled. There is nothing I hate more than sitting on a covered patio and still getting wet! This was NOT the case here. The patio was large enough for many groups to be seated comfortably and covered from the rain/wind. My husband and I ordered the exact same dishes as we did in Durham, both were equally as delicious though I will say mine was slightly different in flavor - not good or bad just different. I'll also add I got a margarita that was sweeter than I typically get so it's possible that changed my palate. Regardless the food here is AMAZING and it's officially my husband go to for Tex-Mex, he was missing the Tex-Mex from Dallas so this was a great find. Our server was fantastic. He got our drinks and food order in right away and our food came out popping hot! He stayed near by and kept a watchful eye to ensure we had what we needed. It was another perfect date night! This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. Spacious interior with a big bar area. Very nice waitstaff. The food was some of the best Mexican we've had. The menu is a thing of beauty to look over, tons of pictures of the dishes. It makes it hard to decide. But we were here for a late lunch so we stuck with the back page lunch menu. Dinner will have to be next time. I had the steak Chimichanga and my wife had the chicken quesadillas. Even though these are standard fare, their preparation was incredible. The steak inside was very tender and juicy. The accompanying refried beans were seasoned in a way I'd not tasted before, delicious. Same goes for the quesadillas and the side rice. Fun, vibrant spot for some great drinks and food! My friends and I stopped by here on our way to Raleigh and it did not disappoint. We were told the wait would be about 30 min, so we went next door to Bottle Theory for a quick drink, but we ended up getting texted about our table being ready after about 15min (we just finished our first round extra fast...never let a drink go to waste!) The decor is bright and colorful, unique and refreshing. We were seated really close to the entrance (a bit of a bummer). Our waitress was really nice and checked in on us consistently. The drink menu was huge, lots of great options, and there were a lot of traditional food offerings (burritos, fajitas, tacos, etc). I think we all got some elevated margarita variation- my friends split one and still couldn't finish, so they left the task to me! I ordered a quesadilla and they shared an ACP and something else (don't remember, we went a few months ago when it had just opened). We all left full and happy though. Ideally, that should be minus-10 stars. My wife had I had often had lunch there with my brother and his wife, the restaurant having good food and being about halfway between us (and having found that for dinner the sound system was turned much too loud for comfort). Today, it was much louder at lunch (meter said 87-95 DB), but as we were leaving, staff came out pounding drums so loudly that it was painful (est 110 DB). I ran for the door. My wife was not as quick (needing to pick up her purse); by the time she got out she was in severe ear pain, and is now at the doctor's trying to see if they can help. NEVER AGAIN !!! read more

Coming from SoCal, I definitely set my standards a bit lower before trying Mezcalito. While I was not disappointed by the food I had, this was definitely not a standout spot for me. DISCLAIMER: I got takeout, though I certainly appreciated the beautiful restaurant interior when I swung by for pickup. I ordered the Mezcalito burrito with side salad, a fiesta salad with chicken, and the steak fries. The food was hot and packaged neatly. The person at the front desk almost mixed up my order but they were very nice and apologetic about it. In general, I found the food to be a bit bland but salty, by which I mean that the dominant flavor was salt. My burrito came smothered in a sauce that didn't really add to the flavors in each bite. My side salad came drenched in sour cream, which I felt to be overkill. The Fiesta salad's dressing was almost like an Italian/olive oil vinaigrette which didn't quite seem to fit the vibe of the salad. The fries were pretty good but I feel like there were way too many beans and not enough pico de gallo. Overall this restaurant is a good, quick fix for my burrito cravings, but not something I'd write home about. (I would, however, write a Yelp review about it ) read more

Why 5 stars? Because we were seated immediately on a Saturday evening, food came out super quick and staff was great. We decided to check this location out since we haven't had any luck with the Clayton restaurant (always a wait). As stated we were seated immediately and our server was prompt and attentive as well. They start you with the usual chips and salsa while you wait. We didn't order any apps and good thing we didn't because it didn't take long for our food. I did order chicken soup which I was thinking was a small bowl but boy was I wrong. Huge serving! I ordered a virgin blackberry mojito and it was delicious. As far as entrees, my husband ordered the Mezcalito fajitas and I opted for the ultimate ACP. I'm definitely not a cheese fan but it wasn't bad but I won't be ordering it again only because of the cheese sauce. It also has an agave chipotle glaze that was a little too sweet for the entree. It may have been better on tacos. Overall the food was fresh, hot, good and plentiful!! No complaints on portions. I needed a carry out for the soup and ACP. The cheese dip absolutely great. The chips were very salty. The veggie tacos did not have much flavor to them. The black beans on the side also had a strange flavor. This Mezcalito location is a lot smaller than the Durham location but still has an indoor and outdoor patio seating. There is a parking lot and bar at this location. The decor in this location is very similar to the Durham location. Both are nice in that regard. Service was a little slow when we dined here however our server apologized and told us that she had a big party of 20 people. The chorizo queso, chips and salsa were good. I ended up ordering the ultimate nachos. The nachos were topped with steak, shrimp and chicken, beans, cheese, multiple sauces, etc. I was not a fan. There were so many toppings on it that my nachos were soggy as I was eating it. I also did not like one of the sauces on it. I think it was the agave chipotle. It kind of reminded me of a barbecue sauce but a lot sweeter. Def not something that I would choose to have on my nachos. Stopped here after a trip to Chapel Hill, so it was on the way home. Was not sure if it was Italian or Mexican but I like both.... I was there before the dinner rush, but there were still people inside and outside. Prices are slightly higher than the places I usually visit. I ordered chicken fajitas and was very surprised when it came out on a platter. The chicken was ok, and there were some grilled veggies underneath it. No tortillas were brought, so all around, just a very different fajita. Their chips were good, salsa just ok. Service was just ok, hard to get anyone's attention, slow to get the check. I love this place and I'd recommend this as the go-to Mexican spot for anybody. I heard about it many times from the popular Durham location so I was super excited to see one here. It's new so it's super clean and very beautiful inside. Everything from the moss wall, cool lighting, and lighted bar just looks so good. There was plenty of staff inside and everybody was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is very lively and there was a packed outdoor seating area as well which is great for the warm weather we've been having. There was music playing but it was not too loud at all and if you don't like a fun atmosphere then just order some food to go. I love the menu- It has many options, it's easy to read, and has great pictures to accompany it. It's hard not to try a taco after seeing the big taco tray picture they have on it, and yes you can get a single taco instead of having to order 3. We got the queso, corn esquite, ultimate acp, and mezcalito bowl. The food came out pretty quick and it was fresh and hot. Everybody was full and satisfied with the meal and we were already discussing the next time we'd return. The portions and prices are fair and the service was amazing! Our waiter was so patient, kind, and always around when we needed him. The only thing we wouldn't get again was the corn which was very soupy and watery. 10/10 for everything else though. This is definitely a great place to grab some drinks too, I didn't this time but I'll be back to try because the bar was just too pretty. read more

I went for the loaded fries which was really loaded full of beef strips and black beans ordered also some sweet/ little spicy double fried chicken bone-in as appetizer. Those will make buffalo wings go bankrupt. We gotta have the giant plate of everything...called paradise platter It's a bit pricey during after lunch specials but it's worth the trip. Not to mention the endless cocktails they have for you. I like the service and ambiance Loud Mexican techno going out loud and folks celebrating whatever they're celebrating.
