Stopped by here for a quick dinner with my partner after hearing good things friends and I'm so glad we did. The salsa is easily some of the best I've ever had even though I usually like my salsa on the spicier side. We got one chicken tamale and one pork tamale, both were excellent but the shredded chicken with green chili's was definitely more my speed. As for the tacos we got shredded chicken, a chorizo/steak mix, fish, al pastor, shrimp and steak and holy moly each one was delicious! Also whatever the sauce they serve on the side is just as delightful. You can tell the tortillas are made in house and they definitely weren't skimping I'm be filling. My favorite tacos are the pastor and campachano and my husband usually goes for the steak tacos. I will say I prefer their taco truck over the store front, mostly because they have better tortas. I've tried both the food truck and the physical restaurant and was very happy with both. The campechano tacos have a great charred flavor and aren't greasy at all (as chorizo tends to be). At the restaurant I tried the chile relleno queso and it had a great presentation, tasty refried beans, and the pepper itself was great. Unfortunately, the cheese in the middle was cold and unmelted so I didn't finish it. The house hot sauce is spicy but not overpowering and good on almost everything (as is the salsa). Recommended if you're looking for a little more authentic take on Mexican food in Birmingham. read more

Sure it's connected to a gas station and has dingy decor, but if you just take one look in the kitchen when you walk inside, you'll see it's all authentic Mexican food! I always get the jalapeño peppers with cheese and the pastor tacos. The pastor tacos are stuffed full of fresh ingredients! Sure, my food would taste better with a cold adult beverage, but I have no problem walking to one of the many surrounding bars, and enjoying a drink after stuffing my face with the yummy food! Since moving here a year ago, I have been wanting to try Taco Morro Loco. Something about a restaurant attached to a gas station just speaks to me. I had been warned about the smell and ambiance ahead of time, and believe me, when I'm going to a restaurant like this, it's not for the lighting or great service, it's for some delicious food. We got there around 6:30pm and the restaurant had a few tables but wasn't overly crowded. Granted it was a Friday night and I got the impression this was more of weeknight or lunchtime spot. As many other reviewers have noted, they don't serve alcohol, but they do encourage you to buy some from the neighboring gas station to bring over. We ordered our waters and they brought up some chips and salsa to start. The chips were good not great, but the salsa was very good. I really like tamales, and have been looking for a go to tamale place in town so I had to try them here. I ordered one of chicken and one pork tamale to start with. For dinner, I ordered the el pastor taco, carnitas taco, veggie taco and shrimp taco. The bf ordered the steak fajitas. It didn't take long for the food to come out. I can't remember who told me they had a good veggie taco, but after getting it, I'm assuming I either heard wrong or they had their restaurants mixed up...The veggie taco was not, it didn't look appetizing nor did it taste it. It was basically raw vegetable slices thrown into a flour tortilla with mayo. The shrimp taco was similar, but with shrimp. We ended up not eating either of them- I would highly advise skipping both of those. The tamales were okay. The chicken one was better than the pork, but I don't know that either are worth ordering unless you are in desperate need of a tamale fix. The el pastor and carnitas taco were both good and I would recommend them. The boyfriend's steak fajitas were also good and a really generous portion of steak. The food prices are extremely reasonable, so I can see the appeal of stopping in for a cheap taco fix. I noticed a lot of people commented about poor service, but I didn't think the service was bad. Granted it wasn't overly crowded and I had tempered expectations, but everyone was very nice and attentive. I'm glad we finally tried Taco Morro Loco, but I was let down by the food. Like I said, I think the restaurant can serve the purpose of getting your cheap taco fix but I don't think I'll be coming back any time soon. read more

This place seems to be just a small hole in the wall, but it's definitely worth the visit. The service is always great despite there only being 1 server usually. The salsa is made in house and it's deliciously unique. The tacos are authentic and the steak fajitas consist of mostly steak unlike other places that serve fajitas with mostly vegetables with a few pieces of steak and they are always cooked to perfection. Just grabbed some takeout from Taco Morro Loco. This was my second visit. The first visit really didn't impress me but since people rave about it I had to come back and give it another try. This time I got three tacos - chorizo, fajita steak, and chicken. By far the best was the chorizo. The other two were really bland. I had to pour the sauce they provided all over them just to eat them. The steak was full of fatty pieces and very tough. I've had much better "authentic" tacos in other locations in Birmingham. The chips and salsa are amazing! There were four of us, and we each got different combos of tacos. They were all great! I highly recommend the asada. The only thing that wasn't good was the guacamole... I'm assuming they make it fresh, but it looks and tastes like it came out of a bag. They still have a few things to perfect. For example, they only have a few menus, so everyone in the restaurant has to share. And there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant. They don't have a liquor license yet, and they don't let you bring in alcohol. But they are supposed to be getting one next month and are adding a bar. The food here is good. The tacos are very much like the ones I had in Mexico. If you liked their food truck you will like the food here. I really wanted to love this Mexican restaurant in Avondale. I know this is a gas station joint but I did have minimal expectations. My fiancé and I went for cinco de mayo and were not impressed. There was one waitress who was extremely sweet but was struggling to keep up with the entire place even though they weren't busy. It took about 20 minutes to place our order after our drinks came. When the food did come I was unimpressed. I had three different tacos and they were all bland. Best of luck as they become established and hopefully acquire more staff. read more

It's kind of attached to a gas station, so don't expect a fine dining experience, but I kind of like the vibe because you feel like you're eating at a dive. Service is always prompt and pleasant. I love Taco Morro Loco's truck, but I am disappointed with the new brick and mortar location. They still don't have their liquor license and it was weird to eat in a Mexican restaurant without margaritas, but the waitress said that should change within the month. There was only one waitress, but it wasn't crowded at all and she was great, so service wasn't an issue. The food came quickly and it is close to the truck's quality, but it wasn't quite as good. I got the chicken quesadilla and it was a little dry. The main issue and the reason for the 3 stars is the ridiculously loud Mexican hip hop music that is blaring while you're eating. If I hadn't read the other reviews I would think it was just a one time thing, but this is obviously an ongoing issue. I will definitely go back and hope to update my review with more stars, but for now they only get three. read more
