My husband and I stopped in Ocala for an overnight. We read about this restaurant on Yelp and gave it a try. He had the asada tacos and added beans and rice. The tacos were small but with a lot of meat. He enjoyed them. I ordered a vegetarian burrito. It lacked substance. Way too much lettuce and not enough of the beans, rice and cheese. Everyone finds the king burrito to be a large serving so I would skip the veg burrito. And if I had to have no meat choose something else. This is a shitty ass ran business. I came in here trying to pick up 3 tacos while they weren't busy and it took 30 minutes just for my tacos to be made. The location was clean and the workers up front had masks, which is great, but there were some workers in the back that did not. I understand that working with them is difficult, especially in a kitchen, but it is also not safe considering everything going on. Apart from this, my order was completely wrong. It seems like we have so many more Mexican eateries these days than we did just 20 years ago, right? So when driving by a Mexican restaurant, how do you know it's worth your time to stop in? I'm not exactly sure, but what I can say is that if non of the folks working or eating inside are white, then it's gonna be a good time. Working off of this politically incorrect theory, I decided to give it a whirl. I kept it simple and ordered two tacos to go, pronto! I got the asada taco and the lengua. The girl working the counter asked if I wanted hot or mild salsa on the side. Not sure of the spice level, I played it safe with the mild. Either she was playing games with me or they're salsa is face-melting hot, because the two sauces I got lit me up. Both of the tacos were ready quick, and neither disappointed in the flavor arena. Damn good tacos! Tasted like real tacos I've eaten in Mexico. Would have taken pics, but they were scarfed down too quickly. I don't live in Ocala but always try to make sure my travels take me by this amazing and authentic Mexican dive. This is not a place my wife would ever appreciate, or there is no single special #8, cheese sauce or even chips. However, there is plenty of special findings on the menu that I drive me back time and time again. Tonight on my drive back from Tampa, my car somehow found itself back for tacos. I chose the 3 tacos with beans and rice, a side of guacamole, and a homemade lemonade. First things first, I am never super impressed with beans and rice. They are really hard to mess up, so unless I find them to really awful, I will rarely comment on them. Second, the taco allow you to choose your meat: steak, pork, Mexican BBQ, chicken, beef tongue, and beef tripe. I always try to venture out of my comfort zone and try something new. This time it was beef tongue. I did ask what it taste like and the waitress so kindly brought me a taste. I really had no idea what to expect. I have bitten my own tongue before and it hurt like H.ll and surely didn't taste very good. It smelled like pot roast and looked like pot roast. The texture was not really like pot roast. However, I really liked it. It was amazingly tender, it had a texture softer than beef, but firmer than the fat on beef. It full of flavor and truly melted in your mouth. If you have never had it - give it a try, at least once. My second favorite meat is the Mexican BBQ, which was my adventure on my last visit. It is really good. It had the consistency of finely chopped beef that was full of flavor. I highly recommend this as a meat of choice. My third taco was the pork. It was tender and well seasoned, but was not my favorite. Also, they always bring 2 sauces to the table - a tomatilla salsa and then a chipotle salsa. Both of these are fabulous and I really could drink the while bottle. The guacamole was simply done and very fresh. Lastly, the homemade lemonade was great You definitely need try Taco N Madre. The appearance on the outside is very basic, the inside not going to win any awards for decoration, but the food is truly authentic and delicious, and the waitress was kind and quick! read more

This was horrible food. We have never had a burrito with just chicken and cilantro in it, nothing else. Chicken was very dry and there were pieces of bone in it. The beans and rice on the plate were both dry and bland. Server never brought chips and salsa to the table until we asked for some. Will never go there again, yuck! read more

Today we saw the restaurant and decided to give it a try.... and were so glad we did. We had tacos, tried the asada tacos and they were absolutely delightful! Very fresh, very flavorful and probably the best tacos either of us have ever had... and we've had tacos pretty much everywhere.... from Alaska to most of the lower 48. Service was fast, our waitress was a joy, friendly and efficient - with a lovely, happy smile. Atmosphere was perfect, comfortable and fun. Thought we would stop in here since it was a little different from other places. Mistake! Everything started out ok but went down hill fast. I ordered two tacos with beef but after the 1st bite something did not taste right, so I decided to eat the rest of it.......lol. But I did not touch the other one, it smelt & tasted like the inside of a barn, not sure how old the meat was but man was it bad. My wife had a burrito with rice, beans & she added onions but the baby onions were so big that they had to be cut. Then there was yellow gravy (we guess) that was poured inside of it, not really sure what was inside the thing. The server was nice but could not multitaske, took a long time to get the check. Not sure if Chef Ramsey could save this place, I recommend Taco Bell down the street. read more

We are from San Antonio Texas and have authentic mexican food all the time. I don't normally leave reviews for restaurants but this place is awesome! In addition to the impeccable food, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very clean, comfortable, and designed tastefully. Far from authentic Mexican food... Authentic Mexican food is a lot more than tacos, burritos and quesadillas .. that's more street Mexican food. I decided to order the carne asada plate and I was very disappointed.. large plate of mainly "salad", cold and old rice with beans topped with cheese warmed up in a microwave.. the steak , overcooked ... the tortillas are so thick you can't even fold them ... hot salsa ??? Good luck.... I ordered also a guacamole and the waiter asked me if I wanted chips with my guacamole... hmmmm ... I was the only one inside the restaurant (which remienda me of fast food restaurants) and my order still took easily 15 minutes to be served ... I could go on and on about my experience during my last visit but I don't need to say anymore , not one time I was asked if I was satisfied with my food (which most of it was left on the plate)... if you don't know anything about Mexican food , then this is your place . read more

This is the best place to eat Mexican in Ocala! Never had a problem, king burrito or steak quesadilla is super yummy!

They aren't open until 10p on Mondays. We went by at 9:15 and they were mopping & would only serve food to go. Just change the hours.

After reading reviews of this place, and having looked for good Mexican food in the area with limited success, the wife and I came for lunch today. The outside of the restaurant (located on a busy corner between a Tire shop and a Women's Clinic) looks like many other taquerias I have been in, but the inside is quite comfortable and pleasant. The service was prompt and pleasant. We were at the beginning of lunch time, and the place had a pretty good turnover of customers while we were there. I had a daily special of two soft tacos; one chicken and one pork, and rice and beans. She had a veggie burrito. Everything came out in good order and pretty quickly. The burrito was certainly big enough to fill anyone up for lunch. It had a number of tasty veggies, lettuce, beans, cheese and rice in a very tender tortilla wrap. The server brings squeeze bottles of red and green sauce to the table with the food, both of which are nice and flavorful - pretty hot when tasted alone but not overwhelming when put on the food. My tacos were good but not great. They have enough fillings (meat, cilantro, onions and spices) in a tender soft tortilla, but were kind of dry (especially the chicken) even though the meat had a good flavor and was tender. I think next time I would ask for some sour cream or cheese on the tacos. The beans were very good - not too runny or too lumpy, with a good lard edge, the rice was fine but not memorable. All in all certainly the most "autentico" taco joint in the Marion/Citrus county region and one I would be happy to go to any time. read more

Terrible. Server hands me a small paper menu. I tell her I've never been here. She comes back inside a minute and asks if I'm ready. I told her again I've never been there, so she starts reading the menu to me as if I don't know how to read. She asks what I'm looking for, I said carnitas de res or nachos or a combo. She said it comes with chips and salsa. She asks if I'm ready or need a second. I said I need a second. Nearly fifteen minutes later, I'm about to leave. She shows up, I give my order. Never got the chips. Takes 25 minutes for 3 tacos and rice and beans. Steak taste like grease, al pastor was delicious. Waitress said chips and salsa aren't complimentary. I ask why she brought it up? She dunno. Flies everywhere. People at the bar can't sit down because the ceiling air conditioning vents are dripping water on their head. I've now been here over an hour and I can't even get my check so I can leave. THEY CHARGE YOU MORE THAN THE MENU. Waitress said it's wrong, the other customer says it's wrong, but they charge you more ANYWAY. No thanks. read more

New Year's Day dinner tacos :-) Be sure to order guacamole & chips. It's the real deal, not a soupy concoction of mock avocado. Muy Rico! Soft tacos barbacoa. This is by far the best Mexican place in town! My family eat here at least twice a month! It is affordable and delicious! I always order the steak tacos with cilantro and onion.
