I regret ever stopping here! This place needs Chef Gordon Ramsey to rehabilitate it. When you walk in to a Mexican restaurant and don't smell the food you should leave immediately unfortunately I did not. This place operates on microwaving everything and as Gordon Ramsey said its "not reheating its microwaving with chef MIC!!!" And if that's the case turn around and get the f***outa there.I had the tacos asada w/rice and beans. Beans/rice were cold and the asada was dry along with my zapped tortillas. I don't understand how other yelpers would give it the reviews they did. My only guess is that they are all big in microwaved food. In any case I Do Not recommend this place to anyone unless you want to vomit like I did when I got home. Ignore this review and you'll regret eating here as I did. Everything I tried was amazing. Carne asada tacos, burrito, and the king burrito with chicken. Their tortillas both corn and flour were on point. Love the red and green salsa on the side. And a nice cup of horchata for dessert. I drove an hour and will definitely be back for more. read more

Great burritos however they have so much meat? They consist of cilantro, onions, and a butt load of whatever meat you want, anything else you would want has to be requested and costs extra. My first visit the woman at the counter was very sweet, but most recently we got a different young woman and she was not happy to be there at all. read more

While the food remains more or less the same--pretty awesome, very authentic, Mexican style tacos and other Mexican staples--they've renovated and now what was once a pretty sad looking space (it looked like a Waffle House in ill repair, honestly) is bright, cheerful, and offers more inside seating. Apparently, they were doing well and decided to expand on the seating, add new bathrooms (which were in very bad shape before) and in general make it a welcoming place to eat. The staff is the same and the food just as good. Get the tacos al pastor with the salsa verde and salsa roja as the waitress will probably recommend. While the menu is not extensive, there are options beyond tacos, though tacos are what I have always ordered myself and been quite content with them. read more

Yummy guacamole. We ordered three orders of that dip to even have some to spread on our giant burritos. Service got slow once the dinner crowd came in. We were the only table at first and then there were like 10! The two servers were running around and it was hard then to get a refill or the check to be taken care of then. I also wish they had put limes in our beers which typically come with them. Like the Dos XX. The diablo shrimp my mom got was better than my burrito I had with steak. Stopped in for a quick lunch when we passed through Ocala on a road trip. The high Yelp reviews lured us away from I-75, and while I wouldn't say that I had a terrible experience, it did live a bit to be desired. SETTING: The place is kind of like a Mexican diner, definitely more of a lunch than a dinner place. A little bit of Mexican flare is thrown in with an drywall archway in the center of the room, and red and yellow painted walls with some festive decorations hanging down from the ceiling. They seemed to be doing pretty good business; lots of people seemingly on their lunch break with co workers. SERVICE: Was fine. Waitress was kind of short with us. Chips and salsa not included. At one point I went to go use the restroom and an employee on the phone locked herself in the women's room (it was the kind where it's just a toilet and sink, so one person at a time). I finally gave up and used the men's room (also just a toilet and a sink). Other than that service was pretty speedy; we were in and out which is what we wanted. FOOD: I got the vegetarian burrito...which is actually NOT VEGETARIAN. Refried beans are traditionally refried in animal fat, and Taco N Madre is sticking to the tradition (I asked our waitress). I'm semi-inclined to let this one slide since I've noticed that ethnic restaurants don't always take vegetarianism seriously and it is the south, so I will say that it actually did taste pretty good (sans refried beans). Other than this burrito, pretty much all the other entrees explicitly contained meat. Admittedly, ingredients were certainly fresh, portion size was good. This has to be hands down my favorite place to go for authentic Mexican food. I've been going for years. The food is excellent. You can't get any better than this little Mexican restaurant. The place always has people going in and out of it. Everything on the menu is really cheap. You don't get a lot of food but if you get two or three tacos or burritos it will fill you up. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting authentic Mexican food. If you are adventurous you should try the Lengua, which is cow tongue, it is SO good! read more

I'm giving 4 stars because the waitresses and cook staff are awesome and nice. We moved from Colorado where we are used to a different kind of authentic Mexican food. This place so far is the closest to what we are used to. The flavor is great. The only thing I. I gave this place a chance on account of the great reviews on here. I'm so glad I stopped in. The area & the outside don't look the best, I think it used to be an old restaurant, maybe a Long John Silvers. The inside has been recently renovated & clean. There was only one waitress working but she was fast & friendly. I got the chicken quesadilla & it was probably the best quesadilla I've ever had. The chicken was a little peppered & there was so much cheese. The rice & beans were good, they were the normal kind you'd have at a Mexican restaurant. My boyfriend had the beef Sopes & it was great as well. A very authentic, fast Mexican joint. Of the 20 people in the place, my boyfriend & I were the only Caucasians in the place, I think that's probably a good sign of the cuisine. read more

This place is incredibly good. I had the king burrito with beef tongue and it's deliciously amazing. The beef tongue melts in your mouth. It's so freakin yummy. Their queso was a little too watery for my liking but I can't dock them on that because the burrito was cooked to perfection. I've had many burritos in my lifetime coming from a huge city but I'm so happy I found this place on yelp! Give it a try! I promise you'll like it. read more

This is an authentic mom and pop restaurant. The men in my family always get the king burrito. This has rice, beans, meat of choice and all the other things that go into a burrito. They are huge and delicious. I am the adventurous one and I try new things when we go. I have had the arepas and tacos. I know I've tried other things,but the point is everything is good. The best horchata I have ever had, hands down. I'd visit again just for that. I ordered the lengua (tongue y'all) tacos and they were tender and tasty, although a bit small. I would have preferred a bit more seasoning on the meat, but overall I was happy with my order. For my little nina, I got a quesadilla plate. It was easily enough food to have satisfied an average appetite. My brother ordered enough food for a giant. A Little of everything and I got to sample the soup. The broth was excellent, and the little tidbits of meat and veg were cooked and seasoned to perfection. I don't know HOW this place has good reviews!! Came here for lunch and WOW. I couldn't even finish my quesadilla, it was gross. Meat was chewy and I didn't get the side condiments that came with my food. We sat by the kitchen window, which was a mistake. I watched as the rice sat out in a bin at room temperature and they MICROWAVED each portion. I got worried when our food came out and it tasted microwaved and flavorless... Even so, the rice and beans were cold and the beans had a weird grey color. Try somewhere else, I am disappointed and will NEVER return!!! *Puked as soon as I got home, ughhhhh!!! I should've left as soon as I saw the microwave in the kitchen and didn't smell any food when we walked in* Kitchen Nightmares and Gordon Ramsey were right, Chef "Mic" is not good in a restaurant.
