Keep driving... cheap tasting greasy ingredients. Tacos only come with onion and cilantro, asked if there was lettuce and tomato was told no and no offering to purchase those items. Chips and queso also sub par, better off purchasing Tostitos and grocery store queso. Flies all over the place also. Huge turn off for cleanliness. Driving down the highway, Ocala had terrible traffic due to accident, so we thought we'd stop and get a bite. It was 11 AM on Saturday and all the restaurants were packed with people. We did not want to deal with all that! We were going to give up when we spotted this place. There was no one in the little restaurant. They had excellent service and delicious, authentic Mexican food. Husband had carne asada and I had chicken tacos and beans. Their homemade red and green hot sauce was excellent. As soon as you walk in the door you feel the Mexican atmosphere. The food was good. I got the carne asada burrito and I enjoyed it. The meat was moist and tender. The actual service, however, was a C+ at best. I had to ask our waitress for a refill several times. I drive for the often on I-75 and I always stop at this place for lunch. It's been consistently good food good service good atmosphere.

I went here for lunch on Friday. I have been here a number of times before, and have never been disappointed. I was with my sister, and she ordered a triplet of tacos, a steak, a chicken, and a barbecue. She was somewhat disappointed by the barbecue one, but the steak and the chicken ones were very good. As for myself, I ordered the King Burrito with steak, and was very happy with it. It is an excellent burrito, lots of flavor, and very filling. The restaurant has recently (within the last year) had a face lift, and has a lot more seating area now. It was odd walking in because it didn't seem the same, and when I asked they said that they had added on to the front. If you are in the center of Ocala and need a good bit of Mexican food, you cannot beat this place! read more

On the search for a good taco joint in town, I decided to give this place a try after seeing some good yelp reviews. Despite being in a rougher area, I knew that sometimes this is where the best places are. We went inside and wasn't sure if we got seated or just sat down. Nobody acknowledged us, so we just sat down and waited. After a good 5-7 minutes we finally got someone to come over with menus. I wasn't bothered at this point, and proceeded to glance around. One thing I will say is that this place really needs a better clean and the tables should be cleaned in between guests, ours was clearly not, but not a big deal. Food gets ordered and was out pretty quickly. I ordered a chicken burrito which looked great. Once I started diving into it, I felt a bit disappointed in the lack of taste, along with the chicken which didn't look or feel like chicken at all. I was almost convinced I had gotten some kind of pork? I'm not sure. It was quite a dark meat, rough and dry on texture. Queso wasn't bad, but a little salty, but again, small things I can look past. It wasn't until later that evening you get that feeling in your stomach like something is wrong. Well it was! While I don't have a super sensitive stomach, it takes a bit to turn mine upside down. I'm not sure what did it, wether lack of sanitation, or not changing gloves (if any) in the kitchen, or just undercooked/bad meat? Im really not sure, but needless to say, I will not be coming back Lastly, speaking of the service, it felt extremely slow and as if our server had forgotten about us. I was driving down from Gainesville to Orlando from work and was looking for places to eat and found this place on here. It was ok, nothing that blew my mind. I had two tacos and the Sope and an horchata water. The tacos were decent but the meat was a bit dry, i had the pastor and carne asada. They weren't bad just not the greatest i've had and considering im Mexican i know a thing or two about tacos. I had a Carne Asada Sope, which is basically like an open face taco on a thicker tortilla with lettuce, cream, beans and cheese. That was really good, i would probably go sope over tacos next time i am ever there. Both the Hot Sauces were really good as well, which i liked. We hadn't been to this area in 8 years so it was a pleasant surprise to find our favorite little Mexican eatery still open. The sopes are the best; a soft corn cake topped with refried beans, Mexican sour cream, white cheese, lettuce, tomato, and meat. I recommend the Carne Asada sopes with the Red Hot Salsa made of Arbol chilis with garlic and a hint of chipotle. We killed half the bottle in one sitting. Try the Salsa Verde (tomatillo. I have driven by here many times over the years on my visits to Ocala and was always amused by the name. Finally decided to check it out. This place is an absolute gem! Very no frills decor and atmosphere but the food was awesome! Started with homemade fresh chips, salsa and guacamole. Perfection. Our party of four ordered an asada quesadilla, pollo taco salad, especial de asada and shrimp el diablo. Both of the homemade hot sauces were flavorful. The green sauce was very spicy, excellent! The portions were large and I can honestly say that this was probably the best Mexican food I've had east of Texas! The waitresses were very friendly and attentive and the restaurant was VERY CLEAN! I'm usually not a big fan of Mexican food, but I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed this place. One Sope (4/5) - I've never had this before, but I would describe it as an open faced taco. I could definitely tell this was made in house. The pork was seasoned and cooked very well. Steak Quesadilla (4/5) - The steak quesadilla was stuffed with a ton of steak. It was very tasty and probably what I will get the next time I go. A lot of the Mexican restaurants I have been to have really bland tasting yellow rice., but the yellow rice that came with the meals actually had flavor. Bit disappointed. Nothing noteworthy here. Carne burrito was filled with meat, but missing a good sauce and was too oily. The chicken quesadillas was way too plain with no sour cream, no guacamole and no veggie choices. The rice and beans were the better part of that platter. Sevice started good, but then they got busy and we never saw our waitress again until she brought the bill. I had run out of my drink, which remained empty. Bathrooms were clean, but women's bathroom had no paper towels. And it is only one stall, so can get backed up (a guy actually used the woman's bathroom after waiting a while). Very clean. Excellent service. Authentic Mexican food. The salsas were perfect. The CARNE ASADA was perfectly flavored and cooked. The richest, most flavorful burrito I've ever had. Pricing incredibly reasonable! Tortillas are soft, warm and freshly prepared. The delicacy of texture shows what a difference handmade tortillas can make. As Arnold once said, "I'll be bahck!" This is my favorite Mexican food place in Florida! We drive down from Jacksonville to Orlando every couple of months and this is our lunch stop. I order the King burrito with everything. Carne Asada that is really carne asada! Rice almost as good as mine , lol. Real Mexican employees and cooks, because a lot places in Florida serving " authentic Mexican food" is actually run by Columbians, Puerto Rican's or some other Hispanic as if we are all the same. This is by far the very WORST Mexican food I have had. After hearing good things about this place, I decided to venture forth. I ordered a taco salad to go. The salad was comprised of basically wilted lettuce and sour cream. The meat was so over cooked it was difficult to swallow, thus rendering it absolutely inedible. I wouldn't even give it to my dog. The salad lacked tomatoes, onions, cheese --things that one is accustomed to getting on taco salad. The sour cream, which I requested on the side, was swimming in the wilted lettuce. Good but not great. I had a chicken quesadilla which came to about $8.40. It was an average-sized quesadilla and I chose the tomato, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole side instead of rice and beans. I like the fact that you got to choose a side instead of being assigned one. Everything was fresh and I will say that the grilled chicken was very good and it had a queso-type white cheese inside. The reasons I gave this three stars instead of five are because: (1) There was no complimentary chips and salsa, which is pretty much the standard for Mexican restaurants. Even Moe's gives you chips and salsa for crying out loud. Speaking of salsa, that leads me to my next reason... (2) Their salsa is not good. It tastes basically like Tabasco. It is runny and fairly tasteless. It is not difficult to have a really good tasting salsa and I think it is inexcusable to be a Mexican restaurant and not have one. They should be embarrassed by their salsa offering. (3). They don't have nachos on the menu. Again, nachos are pretty much a standard menu item for Mexican restaurants. I am sure that they could make some special order but if you don't have a good salsa who wants your nachos? I was hoping this would be my go-to Mexican restaurant in Ocala but sadly I am still searching for a really good one. read more

I have been very fond of Taco N Madre for many years. That changed this evening. 6/24/21. I ran in to place a carry out order. The waitress said it would only be about fifteen minutes. I sat at the bar where I could easily see into the kitchen. I called the waitress over and asked why she is wearing gloves while the books were scratching their face ears nose and handling food without gloves. She went into the kitchen and started yelling at them. They immediately put gloves on. As she was bagging up my food, I asked if it was safe. She looked puzzled. I told her that cook in the black shirt just dropped steaks on the floor and put them back on the grill. Yes I just witnessed that. l will not go back. That was too much to witness and so disgusting. At this point I had already paid and had bags in hand. This review doesn't need to be long -- This place made me feel like I was back in a real corner joint in San Antonio for the first time since I moved to Florida. It's easily the best Mexican I've had since I moved here. The barbacoa and al pastor are authentic, the tortillas are good, and their salsa verde and red sauce are just perfect. If this place doesn't survive, north central Florida doesn't deserve any real Mexican. Cheap, friendly, and delicious. I know I give mostly good reviews of places, so don't let that stop you from checking this place out. Having moved from LA to Ocala, I guess I have higher standards for real mexican food. We walked in for the first time to a person that was not on top of her game. Our take out tacos were not impressive at all. The chicken was quite dry shredded chicken. They honestly do not serve enough sauce on the side to make these tacos interesting at all. Update: We like to give a local place a second try and did so today. (for take out) The food is dry and uneventful to say the least. Our lunch entree came with rice and beans. Instead of putting the rice in one portion of the take out container and the beans in the other empty space- they pile them on top of each other. Now some people like the two mixed and I do at times. But why on earth would they do this??? I can't tell which one- but one or both was very salty. The person working there had a really crappy attitude. Maybe she is the owner?
