For Mexican fast food - this is a pretty good and consistent South Texas chain to hit up. They're famous for their Taco Pirata - a combo taco of fajita meat (beef or chicken) with refried beans and cheese. Their taco is bigger in the Laredo area from which Taco Palenque hails from - and now they can share it all across South Texas, and even as far north as Austin. This particular location is somewhat new and well-maintained. You have to try a Taco Palenque sometime if you love unique offerings and a beautiful salsa/condiments bar. Their Chicken Panchos were also delicious, although the fideo was a bit salty and heavy with the cumin. The service was friendly here, and they were hustling, as they seemed to be a bit short-staffed. If you are in the Harlingen area, this is a must-try. read more

Yet I still go back ... for one there's not a whole lot of restaurant choices in Harlingen. Unless you like taquerias, Mexican, Chinese, pizza. And of course there's Mexican and Chinese and pizza. I wentto palenque to order a side for the dinner we made. My order was taken and i waited 20 to 25 minutes before they realized i was still waiting. Another 5 minutes to get my order. When they finally arrived with my side i asked to speak to the manager and he took another 10 minutes after he was told i wanted tonspeak to hi k. When he arrived and he seemed annoyed i wanted to soeak to him. I was very angry at this point and i told hi k what happened and that i knew he was taking his time to speak to me. One of the better burritos I've had lately. I love the beans and rice in the burritos which many places don't do. I ordered through door dash so I have nothing to say about the service or restaurant. I ordered the bacon and egg breakfast burrito and the fajita beef burrito and both were excellent. Food was warm when it arrived. I love Taco Palenque!! I can't wait for one to open up in Cedar Park. I must say it's a very different experience eating it in person versus at home. If I rated this to-go, it would be a 3 star versus the 5 star of eating at the brick and mortar shop. The tortillas are crazy good. Very fresh, hot, and the perfect kind of chewiness. I could probably just eat their tortillas with just salsa and be happy. When you dine in, you get unlimited access to their salsa bar. This means you can zero in on the exact taste you want every time. For me that's their triple spicy sauce with onion, cilantro, and pickled onion. You also get unlimited chips and agua fresca refills! Sure, the drinks taste powdered, but they're still tasty. No matter the time of day, give this place a shot. Their breakfast tacos slap. Their pirata taco makes you feel so happy. Their barbacoa always has a great texture and no game-y flavor. Oh and their desserts are fantastic. This location never fails to mess up my order. I went so many times long ago and they would either not include something I ordered or mess up the order completely! This morning I thought I'd give them another try after it's been months. Well .. been a while since I've dropped in an once again Taco P doesn't fail to surprise. It doesn't matter if you go thru the drive thru or go inside to order .. these guys can NEVER get an order correct. This time I clarified with the one taking my order if I ordered the Chicken Fajita Taco combo that they please do not put Avocado because I'm allergic to Avocado. He assured me they'd put it on the side .. I suggested to have removed but he insisted they ALWAYS put it on the side. Do I have to tell you what happened? Avocado all over the side of both tacos. AND .. i got corn tortillas after they'd asked if I wanted flour and said Yes please. AND they did not pack the side of Fidello that was part of the combo. Here's the sad part .. the one who put my order together is I believe is management. I've posted quite a few times on Taco P all negative of course, I've had their Corporate personnel attempt to contact me .. and for what reason I do not know as these folks obviously have some serious serious service issues to address. Folks, I strongly suggest you think twice about visiting the Taco P in Harlingen unless you're ready to accept mediocrity in service and accuracy of your order. But here's the honest truth about why I stop into Taco P .. and it's got nothing to do with something they've control over. Taco P has beverage service thru Coca-Cola and they offer Mr Pibb in place of Dr Pepper. I'll admit I'm a Pepper but always welcome Mr Pibb as it does have a great taste. Really a 2.5-star review but meh. This TP location really needs to get with the program. Y'all aren't even that new anymore to still be messing up. Drive-thru took 25 minutes to get our order of panchos out. 25 minutes! We were in town for the weekend and I decided to call them up to see if we could take our chihuahua with us to dine on the patio area. The girl said yes but then within 2 minutes I got a call back from a man who said dogs are not allowed on the patio. WTF!?!? Make up yo mind! Anyway, we have 2 of these up here in SA so there's really no need to go to the Harlingen location any time soon. So...I decided to buy some tacos for my UIL students at the new Taco Palenque in Harlingen. I know they're a popular chain and figured no one could mess up breakfast tacos. 10 minutes in the drive-thru with cars honking at the window got me a scrunched piece of foil with a mushy mess inside it. First time trying this chain. It's solid fast Mexican food I ordered the chicken fajita, a beef quesadilla and a chicken quesadilla. The food was good, not amazing. The staff were very kind. There's a nice salsa bar. The "famous" guacamole salsa was out, a sever ran over to the drive thru and got me a couple. My quesadilla came out wrong, but they corrected the issue. I had a cup of Jamaica (hibiscus), it was so so. I hate they ran out of margaritas. It's quick and near the airport. I'll be back. read more

I get that this isn't real Mexican food, but if you're going to serve menudo you should know about oregano and raw onion garnishes. I am eating the worst bowl of menudo I've ever had in my life. It is sour because it wasn't washed right or something is off. This is the more reason to add oregano. Oregano is an antiseptic. I love their food! Had a problem though with the Matamoras tacos I ordered using the Harlingen drive thru today. Tacos fell apart on me. When I have ordered barbacoa or these tacos, I opt for corn tortillas. Every single time before, without asking, those tacos have had two corn tortillas on each taco, I assumed for reinforcement. Today, it was really messy as each were already falling apart or did so as soon as I lifted taco. Tried using sauce on first one, but that made it worse. Taco P, as we like to call this spot, is a gem here in the RGV for many reasons. To start, the food is pretty good. You get unlimited chips and salsa, and they provide numerous salsas for you to indulge in. They are also open 24 hours, which is honestly Taco P's biggest selling point for me, as I rarely finding myself wanting places like Denny's or IHOP during odd hours of the night. The only negative to this place is the price. For a fajita taco combo you can expect to pay $12. I have always wondered if the unlimited chips and salsa is added to the prices, which would mean that using the drive-thru is doing a disservice to the value of your meal. read more

The bacon and egg breakfast taco is so good! So much flavor in the egg and you can actually see the bacon in the taco! Their burritos are huge and very filling but kind of pricey but worth it. The different varieties of salsa is insane! I never know which one to get. But I think I like the avocado salsa better. Also the restrooms are really private and clean. read more

This is the worse Palenque in the Valley. They have consistently gotten my order wrong EVEN when I ask them to repeat it back to me. I try to call the restaurant to let them know after I get home and discover the errors they've made ....but the phone number listed on google doesn't even work. I really wish they would get their Sh** together and just get the damn orders rights. It's not a hard job guys. First of all, We walked in and the girl at the 1st register seemed as if she did not care to come to work. When she was asked questions she would kinda just point. There was no welcome or Thank you for your order. The food was to expensive if you ask me for just tacos....$5 for a meezly small taco. Then when we sat down a employee comes over to see if my husband wanted cheese on the baked potato he ordered when she forgot to ask when we were there. Then when the employee bought "our" and I use that term even though they did include the fajita taco I ordered. When my husband brought it up with the employee he still had the audacity to ask if our order was okay.... Like what the hell. Seriously! Never again will we be coming back and we will make sure to share our experience eating here so that no one else will come here either cause it's a joke and a waste of time.
