My family and I go to the Rio Grande Valley to attend services at the Catholic church for the Our Lady of San Juan del Valle. It's essentially a tradition since I was a baby (38 years and counting). What's also another RGV-related tradition is stuffing our faces at Taco Palenque. TP is a fast food chain, but the food is of taqueria quality. It simply blows Taco Cabana, Taco Bell, Del Taco, and even your run-of-the-mill Tex Mex eatery out of the water. What I'm very impressed with is the unlimited chips and salsa. As for the salsa, there's a wide variety to choose from. For those who want to play it safe, there's the guacamole, or green, salsa while mostly the rest is deliciously spicy as Jah intended. All TPs near the border are 24 hours, which is perfect for the area. read more

We traveled from Houston and stopped by at this place. Amazing service and friendly. The staff was super busy made a little mistake in my order they were able to fix it and did not hesitate to get a free dessert. I will also recommend the Sirloin and the Matamoros Tacos. read more

Are you looking for some late night Mexican food? This is the place for you! They are open 24/7 which it sure is convenient when you get the late night craving for some good quality Mexican food. I usually like getting 2 tacos piratas just because one won't build me up. My only complaint is that the prices can be a little pricey but that is just me and which might not be an issue for others. I will usually pay over $10 for two tacos which is not what you usually will pay at most Mexican restaurants. This might simply be because they operate 24 hours a day but other than this the food is great. I do recommend this place for their really good quality food. read more

I was a little skeptical at first thinking why would I want to get some Tex-Mex when I can get some good real Mexican food? I was glad I gave this place a try. During their first opening week, everyday the parking lot was packed, especially during lunch and dinner time, to the point that they had to have someone to direct the traffic. If the locals like this place this much, it gotta be good right? We decided to stop there for brunch one day. First of, I was excited to see the salsa bar that has a huge variety of different salsas, freshly shredded cabbage, cucumber, pico de gallo, grilled jalapenos, all you can eat chips, the list goes on. That right there was enough to keep me coming back. Next was the fact that they have the Taco Palenque app! They have an app!!!!!!! Not only that, if you download the app, automatically, you'll get $5 credit after registering that you can use toward your first purchase, and $1 credit for every $20 you spend after that. Even tho we were not able to use the app our first time due to some problem with their system, I was happy cuz we ended up getting 2 free meals! I have had their steak fajitas and breakfast tacos, everything was great with excellent flavor. I will definitely come back to try other items on the menu. read more

Visited this week as I was driving thru RGV area, the food is so very good, tender fajitas excellent beans, fresh tortilla chips and salsa. Yumm. If I come to the valley gotta have taco palenque. Everything is so fresh and great eating. Excellent customer service , employees were busy sterilizing tables, cleaning the restaurant. Gave them 4 stars as the ladies restroom had tp all over the floor. Maybe some one just did that before I walked in. Restrooms were not dirty just paper everywhere, hence, sticking to my shoe...lol Recommend this place for excellent food and service. read more

Open 24 hrs. So far we have come here 3 times and the food was decent. Atmosphere is a little fast food like but the food is good and you definitely get your fill. Chips are free as long as you're a paying customer. You can even get drinks here if you like. Overall, this place deserves better rating (half star better). You won't be disappointed if you need something quick and good. Nachos are huge btw and pretty darn tasty. read more

We just moved down to the RGV and Taco Palenque has become a weekly trip for us. I'm originally from San Diego, California and the burritos from Taco Palenque definitely give me my fix of Mexican food I'm familiar with. We always order something that's not on the menu (it's a popular menu item back in California) and I so appreciate that they accommodate us and make it. It's just a simple burrito with only bean, cheese, and rice. They are delicious from here! My only problem is I never know what to expect as far as the quantity. They will make us the smallest burritos you've ever seen and I end up paying for 2 at almost $11. I don't feel they are worth that. And then other times they will make a decent sized burrito and it's the best day ever. I just wish they would consistently fill them as a normal burrito, it's a bummer getting home and you're still hungry. It's not as if we're asking for extra meat, just a simple bean, cheese and rice burrito. I added a photo of one of the smaller burritos I got. They've given us even smaller at times. read more

Taco Palenque is a great Mexican restaurant it's open 24hours which is awesome. I usually get the Sirloin Taco it's delicious. What's great its they have a stand where you can get all types of salsas and veggies and also unlimited tortillas and chips. The weslaco one is kind of small compared to the McAllen one. The wife and I have eaten at this location numerous times over the past couple of years and always leave very satisfied. If you like strips of tender steak you will love their basic tacos. You add the toppings with the self service salsa bar so can make them as hot or as mild as you like. Huge advocate of taco p. So it's sad for me to write this. This location was unimpressive. Salad bar was tiny, sloppy and hadn't been cleaned. The three salsas I tried were very bland. No flavor. Maybe they were an old batch. The space is too crowded with way too many tables and chairs for the amount of space. If you're going to have that many windows you need to keep the AC up.
