Not bad! If I still lived in Gardner I'd be at taco Rey frequently. Decent food. The tortillas for the tacos are tasty (i.e., fried, as they should be) and the other ingredients were decent. Heard nothing but good things from my sister about this place. I'm not a fan of Mexican as it is, but gave it a shot for my boyfriend. My tamales were dry and bland. My boyfriend enjoyed the food he ordered, but I didn't. He ordered a few things a couple months later and had me try his chicken enchiladas. The chicken was 100% canned. It had the exact (lack of) flavor and texture as canned chicken. My boyfriend is no longer a fan of this place either. read more

Loved it. Visited on Sunday night, December 27 2015 with two adults and one infant at about 6:00. Ordered chile rellenos and carnitas plates. Perfect portions, the food was fresh, and the staff was enthusiastic and ready to make us happy the second we entered the door. I had stopped in when they first opened a couple weeks ago to grab a menu and it was barely thrown together, but in the two weeks they made a lot of progress on the decor. We were comfortable, and they were making a pretty steady takeout business the whole time we were there. They really cared if we enjoyed the food (we did), and it is really nice that there is an authentic Mexican restaurant in the heart of Gardner. The baby really loved the attention. Will definitely be returning. It is cash only, but I expect that to change once their infrastructure is a bit more off the ground. read more

Discovered it via the ever brilliant Yelp app. From the moment we walked in, we all knew this food was going to be absolutely delicious and authentic. We ordered a chicken empinada, patacones, guacamole, fish tacos and horchata. Everything was, just as we knew it would be, absolutely delicious and AUTHENTIC. The ambiance, decor and delightful bolero music peacefully, perfectly playing in the background synchronized to complete the perfect dining experience. The Chef/Owner was BEYOND FRIENDLY, warm and helpful with questions we had about particular dishes. The homemade hot sauce was so excellent, it could be sold NATIONWIDE in the shelves of every single supermarket -- that's how exceptionally good it was! The patacones with some guacamole and a dab of hot sauce was purely divine. May it be noted that literally every single thing in this gem of a restaurant is made FROM SCRATCH! My dad came down from California (who hands down has the best Hispanic food) and of course he had to try it. We ordered the carne Asada fries, they were amazing! My dad loved it and so do we. I will start with my girlfriend likes this place.... that's the 2nd star. I tried about five different things and disliked them all. The tacos were so bad I spit out my one bite. (Girlfriend likes the tacos). I won't eat there again. But on a positive note they are both 10 times more expensive than Taco Bell and 10 times worse tasting. This is really like a little hole in the wall family run restaurant. First time here I got the chimichanga ranchero for less than 10 bucks it was a good deal . This time I tried the pollo asado for 10.99. It's a sliced marinated chicken breast with rice and re fried beans, pico Di gaio and sour cream drizzled on top, a little guacamole and some lettuce. 2 warm flour tortillas come along side so you can make your own tacos. Individual tacos go for 2 dollars each. Their homemade hot sauce is delicious. Just enough spice without destroying your taste buds! This is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The atmosphere lacks charm and decor, but makes up for it whole-heartedly with the food. I went with a group of five people, each person ordering a different dish for us all to share and taste. Ordering was a little confusing because their menu was set up a little different than most, but the staff quickly and happily answered any and all questions. We all tried the nachos, burritos, quesadilla, and varied tacos. Everything was so good. The staff was very friendly. I have no complaints and will definitely be going back. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Gardner now. I have been many times and I always try something new. I love that the food is not Mexican, it is Spanish. They have things that you typically cannot find around here, such as mofongo and tostones. My husbands favorite is Pollo Asado and mine is the Tamales. Mexican food is hard to come by in these parts. I was overjoyed to hear that this place has opened. I ordered the coctel de camarones because I just couldn't believe it was on the menu. It was super good, with balanced flavors with a kick of spice. It came with fresh home made chips and salsa. The salsa was delicious but on the spicy side, so I ordered some guacamole to mellow it out. The guac was totally fresh and took the spice right down to perfect. I also ordered the passion fruit drink, again, because passion fruit, in Gardner?! It was so good, cool, tart and exotic! This place opened up 2 years ago and I just went yesterday, got the chicken chicano plate and loved it. My friends loved their meals too. We've been to chipotle and find this even better, it was seriously amazing. People that give bad reviews are sketchy, watch out. While we were there, some rude couple were complaining about being jipped online for some coupon, from a site not even affiliated with the restaurant. They probably went straight to McDonalds after and have no idea what they missed out on. read more

I was a little scepticil walking in the door as there blank signs where a menu should go and it is also a cash only business.The menu is paper and is alacart so you can order the perfect food portions. The menu is a little confusing as it fails to let you know what you can true get and I had to ask a few questions to get what I wanted. But the staff was pleasant and happy answered all my questions. The food came quickly and was survey in Styrofoam to-go containers. This is truly authentic Spanish food. Portion sizes are great and very filling. I got the tacos with beef and one with steak with a side of beans and rice. All i can say is yum. It was the quietest diner date i have ever had as the two of us were too busy stuffing our faces. After we both agreed that this place is the real deal and the food was perfect. It is a nice change of pace as Gardner is famous for ok pizza and boring Chinese food.
