Always reliable , maybe long wait times depending on time of day and a different burrito experience then Santiagos west across I-25 on 84th. Santiagos is more green chile based and Taco star gives you little side cups of green or red sauce with ham chorizo, steak and more styles. A single burrito is larger and averages about $10-13 . Santiagos you can get two burritos under $10. Both styles are great. The Taco Star one will fill you up till supper or the day, the Santiagos , you'll regret the hot chile version. read more

2 stars for the portions that they give you in the tacos and for the freshness of the tomatoes that they put on top of them. Otherwise, this was a disappointing experience. I ordered delivery from here and the food came early which was a plus, but that's where the positives end. The meat wasn't seasoned in any of the tacos that I ordered. I ordered an adobada taco, carne asada taco, and carnitas taco and all 3 tacos were so bland that I had to drench them in salsa. The pint of rice that I ordered was also very bland with no flavor or seasonings on it, it might as well have been plain white rice. I kindly requested that the sauce my burrito was smothered in not be too spicy, I took one bite and immediately started sweating, and my head started throbbing. My girlfriend who has an insanely high spice-tolerance tried it and couldn't believe how hot it was, while her meal was perfectly normal. My order came with 2 pieces of tortilla, with guacamole, the meats, carne asada, onions, cilantro and tomatoes. Both of our orders came with the hot sauce, a green sauce and red sauce. I like the green sauce better than the red sauce. I like my order. Its huge. 3.5 stars. For the PRICE of a Drive-Thru, I'll stick to 3 stars. Its more pricey for the order we opt for. The food also reminds Hubs on what he used to have back in California. Now I don't mind waits, half the time the food is worth waiting for. However when me and my boyfriend went to get a cheese quesadilla and a shredded chicken quesadilla tonight, the cheese wasn't even melted all the way through to the point I could pick off all the little shreds of cheese out from between the tortillas. So I came here because one my my family class mate girls works here and several girls told me the foods is really good, cheap and 24/7! Uh yeah, it's right up my ally after drinking for the past few hours in Lodo and midnight munchies hit me. Gave hubby a choice, we could stop to get a nice bottle wine on the way home or he could take me to this place. Well we opted for this tasty late night meal. My girls were right, this place is good! I had the super Nachos - I loved how they give you a Ton of steak meat. It's soo hearty, juicy and good! Absolutely delicious and I couldn't finish it. Carnitas Burrito - this was Huge and super good! It was super filled/stuffed with meat. Asada taco plate - this was pretty good, but my least favorite. I checked out Taco Star yesterday for the first time. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the location is a previous Good Times outlet, so beware that outside seating is limited to 4 or 5 umbrella tables, along with the mainstream drive-thru and walk-up window services. Being open 24/7 in this neck of the woods is an automatic star in itself. The menu looked very extensive, with many of the traditionals including tortas in the mix. I went with two grilled chicken tacos, which were very nicely stuffed, and included side orders of both red and green sauce. I haven't encountered too many places that offer fried flour (vs. corn) taco shells, so that was a good switch. Great for the most part, but my reasons for 4 stars only: 1. The place was packed with drive-thru customers and walk-up window patrons - usually a good sign that things are busy, but the three people they had working inside during this peak lunch shift were a bit slow putting things out. 2. Something tasted a bit off in the grilled chicken tacos. Couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I think it might have been some spoiled sour cream. 3. I've had slightly better authentic Mexican food elsewhere. All in all, a good visit, and I'll definitely be back to try some more of the menu items. read more

Many years ago, I found myself somewhere in the bowels of Northglenn, and while waiting for something at American Furniture Warehouse to plug a temporary hole in my then rapidly-deteriorating marriage, I went through the drive-through at Taco Star. I order a fish taco, I usually order a fish taco, that's my food of choice. It was outstanding, enough to let me forget things for a bit and enjoy a really well-made fish taco. There are basically three kinds of fish tacos; the kind that use fresh fish and are made really carefully, and with expense. Wahoo's makes a good version of this, though it seems it might be hard for them to keep the prices from going up too much for high-quality fish. And then there are fast-food versions of the fish taco, like at Del Taco, where presumably frozen fish is fried. And then there is the third kind ... Legend has it that in Southern California, a hungry lady or gentleman could buy a fresh fish taco grilled to perfection for just a couple bucks from a place along the beach. But this is Colorado, and when our budget is $5 or so for lunch, our beachside stand is a place like Del Taco or Taco Star. These places have a secret weapon though that the California-styled taco huts like Wahoo's don't have ... they have knowledge from the birthplace of the fish taco, they have experts from Baja, Mexico, who have learned the ancient art of turning a half-decent piece of fish into a meal fit for the most proficient of Snake Pilot. I remembered that outstanding fish taco from Taco Star so many years ago, when I accidentally found myself at the Aurora version of this restaurant yesterday, while helping a hottie to a replacement battery for her Vulva ... err, Volvo. Wait, Outtie? Innie? Audi? No, it was a Volvo, definitely a Volvo. I remembered that shining beacon of perfection from my afternoon in Northglenn and I ordered the fish taco. It was Taco Tuesday by chance, so I got a whole net full of them for a price so low that I should be embarrassed to have taken a hottie there, just indebted for the price of a Volvo battery, with core replacement of course. It was everything I remembered. I have no idea what the rest of their food was, I only ordered the fish tacos, and that is all I will ever likely order here. If they changed the name of their restaurant to Fish Taco Star, I'm not even sure that I would notice. The hottie with the Volvo ordered something, but once she tasted the fish taco, she seemed to have lost interest in whatever meat tostada thing she had, and then like me, she became a drooling fish taco devouring zombie, with knowledge of only Fish Taco Star's fish taco. A fish taco is the taco equivalent of a sonnet. It has to be done simply to be done right. The template is two corn tortillas with grilled fish, chunks of white cabbage, and spicy mayo. No other ingredients are needed. BUT ... to expect fresh grilled fish from a fast food joint would be unreasonable, so the experts at Taco Star have apparently modified the architecture of the fish taco so that it works with the fried and breaded fish. They use different tortillas, and they add some other sauces. It's as perfect as the kind of the beach in SoCal, just in a different way. They'll give you some sauce with it, a green one which is a little like Huacatay, and a brown one that's kind of smokey. You won't need it, but you should smuggle them home for something else. Their fish tacos -- as made yesterday are perfect without adding any of that. If management finally forces them to use less perfection with making these, they might still be great, but I hope they give some of that money they save to the employees here, because without a cook staff of this level of skill, their fish taco wouldn't have a chance. With their skill, it's a masterpiece. One small issue ... a fish taco as perfect as this, needs a perfect drink. They have the pineapple and the manadarin Jarritos, which are okay, but not really built to accompany fish tacos as god as what they make here. They need the lime flavor and even better, the plain Mineragua soda, which might be the best accompany to one of these fish tacos. They do include a couple limes which are helpful, At a lesser place, you would squeeze them on the fish. But at Fish Taco Star, you will save them for the end of the meal. Because after you finish the fish tacos, your immediate impulse will be to go buy more Fish Taco Star fish tacos, and you will continue this cycle until you either run out of money or explode. After you finish your last fish taco, remember that lime. In your daze, grab it, suck on it. Yes, it will damage your dentin, but they will allow you to forget the taste of that perfect fish taco, and thus save you from the endless fish-taco cycle of which there is no escape. read more

This is a very decent place for Mexican food, especially if you are looking for something to eat late at night. We stopped there on our way from the airport to Fort Collins around 1 am. While not expecting much, we wanted to get something better than the usual collection of late-night fast foods. We were not disappointed - the Rocky mountains and Carne Assado burritos were amazing and the sauces they were offered with offered a good enhancement to the spiciness and texture of the food.
