I ordered the "Texas burrito" as it had a large printed ad at the register. It came out and the gentlemen called my number. I went up and saw the burrito and asked "is this the Texas Burrito?" which the worker confirmed. I had to point at the picture and say "this burrito is this thing?" First bite in I found a hair. This is the stuff that legends are made of... though you might not like it if you don't like thoroughly Americanized "Mexican" fast food. But that would make you rather unpopular with most people who grew up in FD in the 80s and 90s. I recommend the Tico Dinner and the taco burgers. Taco Tico is Mexican the Fort Dodge way, not authentic and bland, but spiced how the locals know it, as it has a 40+ year history here. The meat, sauces, chips, and empanadas are all cooked up fresh in the store, and the salsa bar complements any food item with a variety of spice, onions, jalapeños, and olives. The Tico Platter gives a nice variety, but the Texas Burrito is the most bang for you buck. Vegetarians should try a Taco minus meat plus beans and ranch, something unique for those looking to change up their food choices too. Service is better than you'd expect from a run of the mill fast food joint, and regulars might be greeted from the cooks you can see working at the steam tables. I'm not a fan of the Tico Tots as I find other potatoes are seasoned more to my liking, but it's one small flaw in an otherwise outstanding Fort Dodge staple. read more

Try the Taco Burger! The local Tex-mex style of food has a homemade flavor. The enchilada is a local favorite as well!

I grew up in Iowa and had eaten at both the Fort Dodge and Mason City locations. When I recently ate here I hadn't eaten at a Taco Tico in almost twenty years and the memories of how good these restaurants are instantly came back to me. I agree with the other reviews about the authenticity. That said, this place has great food with a lot of flavor! I came in on a Saturday night and the young lady who helped me was very friendly and patient with me (I took forever to order and had a ton of questions). With only 36 locations this franchise has the knack for freshness and non-manufactured flavor that the big-boys can't compete with--no comparison Tastes like it came right out of someone's kitchen! The only downfall is that I live in Minnesota and can only enjoy this place once in a while. read more

tasty tacos that are probably a million miles away from real authentic mexican food, but who cares? it's delicious food that will probably give you indigestion 5 hours later. on tuesdays, you can get a small village of tacos for less than 5 dollars. the tacos are pretty small and easily inhaled in 5-6 bites. the best thing about taco tico is that there's a salsa bar with jalapenos, black olives, green onions, etc. i can't be the only person who gets out of control when unsupervised around condiments. yes, i DO need three large scoops of all 5 kinds of salsa. the food wont blow you away, but hey! you'll see all 290 members of your high school graduating class if you stay long enough. read more

Definitely not authentic Mexican, but still a very good fast food option. The beef is greasy, but not overwhelmingly. I am in love with their deluxe nachos. There is a condiments bar inside where you can load up on olives, green onion, jalapeños and your choice of salsa. Try the green chili sauce if you like a spicy kick. read more

Great food for a "fast food" joint. We always make a point to visit Taco Tico when in Fort Dodge. Always packed when we arrive. Service is good but antiquated as the cashier calls the order back via a microphone and a hand written order form. Will be back again for good Mexican food. read more

Their Tico Dinner is my favorite -- crispy Taco, Beef Burrito, Refried Beans, and Tortilla Chips. I like to pour Green Chili Sauce from their condiments bar over the Beans, which makes a wonderful bean dip to scoop up with the Chips. Their Taco shell holds together better than those in some other restaurants, which shatter into pieces with the first bite. read more
