I had never tried an Indian taco so I wanted to stop here before I headed out of town. I got a large with beef and a small with chicken. The tacos were very good, and for anyone else trying for the first time the beef is definitely better. The dough by itself is really good and has sort of a sweet taste to it. So I wasn't used to the combination of flavors, but it works well. The location was clean and has a drive-thru and outdoor seating. The staff was also very friendly. I should have grabbed some of their crunchy tacos to try as well but now I have something to look forward to if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Sad, because Taco Treat has been here a long time, and I typically Love the food...But If this is the Norm for Customer Service, It will not be here much longer.... I ordered at 12:41, it is currently 45 minutes later and my food has yet to arrive, only a few other tables and the one prior to myself waited an hour, This is during Lunch Hour...one person on duty said she sent others home because She said they "called off last week and weren't doing anything Today" (One of the other patrons said the girl that left had looked as if she was busy, Personality conflict? IDK) .. I heard the Girl that was working turn away a lot of customers also She said she canceled Door Dash orders, Not good for repeat business... You can't run the kitchen, Cash register and Drive up alone, what are you going to do?? , Make everyone wait ? HARDLY ANYONE HAS TIME TO WAIT AN HOUR FOR LUNCH.....Finally got my lunch at 1:47.... Food tasted good as expected...Annoyed that it took over an hour and to have to hear the Employee Brag that she "Handled Lunch Rush on her own"....No you didn't !! I've lived in Helena all my life, and hit all the fast food places in town...EXCEPT...Taco Treat, for some reason. Our go-to in high school was Taco Johns. Now, in my 60's, I wanted to try Taco Treat, I guess because I'm starved for adventure. Got there about 11:20 on a Wednesday morning, thinking it would not be busy. It was not. But there was only one woman working the drive through AND the counter, and she moved very slowly. After waiting for several minutes for her to appear at the counter, I placed my order, stating "no sour cream on anything." I know she heard me because this was noted on the computer display which documented my order. And then a pretty lengthy wait began as she worked the drive through and delivered food to people at the inside tables who had been waiting since I got there. I looked at my order on the shelf above the cook for some time, then the woman returned, bagged it up and sent me on my way. I ate in the car. My tostada had a big dollop of sour cream on top. I'm sorry that I don't like sour cream, I just don't. So there was 5 bucks down the drain. I wasn't going to go back in there and face the wait again. It wasn't that important, because the tostada didn't look that great anyway, the shell looking lard-like. The shell on the beef taco I ordered was obviously fried in lard. And not the good lard. It immediately made me feel unwell as it hit my stomach. The fillings did not taste wholesome. In fact, they tasted like bad food I'd experienced in Mexico that had given me several days of gastrointestinal upset. Not all "authentic" food in Mexico is good, friends. I should read Yelp reviews before I ever try eating someplace new. The ones for Taco Treat would have alerted me to the service, and I may not have wasted almost ten bucks. read more

The customer service is really bad from taking your order to getting your food. 15 minutes for the girl to figure out the cash register. (not a joke) then another 15 or so to get the food. Not sure what has happened over the last year but the corn taco shells fall apart before you can eat them. When I ordered a corn taco I want to be able to eat it without it falling apart. Beef cheese crisps were good. Krustos not very good. All in all I have been going to Taco Treats for 45+ years and this one in Helena is the worst of all that I have been to eat. 1. I've had better food from a high school concession stand. Completely unappetizing, no seasoning, dripping with who knows what. It was a chore to finish the "quesadilla". Your safest bet is a taco shell with nothing in it. read more

After finishing the first of two tacos I noticed a mouse turd on the paper that lines the basket that the tacos were served. The turd was mixed with some lettuce that fell from one the tacos. I brought it to the server's attention who showed it to who I assume was the shift manager. He explained that it was "frier buildup ". It was not.....it was clearly a mouse turd. I could not finish the second taco or the beef cheese crisp. I have been eating at Treat in Helena, MT since 1977. When the business changed owners the quality of food and service has steadily gone downhill. I will never eat at Taco Treat no matter the location ever again. Stopped at TACO TREAT; Helenaon Tuesday 08/30 ....guy taking orders was new and repeated order several times.....got to window and the lady helping him was so flustered and upset with him (SO RUDE: she gave the vehicle in front of me the order for Door Dash and acted like it was his fault) she never verified the order (Bet they were not happy to open their order). she asked what I ordered, never looked at the order screen, She gave me my order and after leaving and going to Safeway I realized I had ordered a beef/cheese crisp and got a cheese crisp when I opened my order. I went back and she blamed me...she was incompetent and cannot read an order...I had a reciept yet she was RUDE and yelled at me .......I will not return and NOTE: to Taco Treat....hire people people who can read orders and do the job correctly and take responsibility for their mistakes!!!!!!! read more

Wow, based on the other reviews, I was hesitant but once I was chowing down on an indian tacos all my worried vanished. Excellent american style hard shells and delicious indian dry bread tacos. Not mexican food but near perfect tex mex. read more

If I could have given this place negative stars I would. We were the second car in the drive through and had to wait 25 minutes for food. When we got it, it was I edible and we threw it away. The bean, rice and cheese burrito only had dried out beans in it. The tortilla was stale, dry and hard. Ordered a quesadilla and it was made with American cheese. It had been microwaved to cook it and the cheese and tortilla had fused to the styrofoam plate it had been prepared on. The plate was partially melted. We got a couple of tacos too and they had wilted, slimy lettuce, more American cheese and dried out beans. The soda tasted off. When was the last time the machine was cleaned? For fifteen bucks, I expected to get more than a bag full of trash to throw away. The high point of the meal was the high quality plastic forks. Stopped by a Helena classic today and got tacos. Staff was friendly and fast. Crispy tacos were not crisp. Cheese was some kind of salty canned melted stuff poured on top. Price was a little higher than other places, but not bad. All in all, I got food fast. It's not to my taste, but others may like that consistency of taco shell and type of cheese. This will the 2nd I have been here since the remodel. The inside love is nicer. It is nice that refills are charged like in the past. The meat taste different and the enchiladas are smaller. I grew up on taco treat in great falls. It just isn't the same in Helena. The need to go back to the way the used toke the burger. read more

I have been a big fan of the Great Falls Taco Treat since I started going there as a kid (which was many years ago). I have gone to the Helena Taco Treat any time I passed through or temporarily lived in Helena -- starting in 1990. It pains me to say it, but I agree with another comment that the place has gone down hill since it was sold. I understand that the owner probably can't pay much more than minimum wage -- but maybe the owner needs to have an on-site manager making sure that people are cleaning when they are not waiting on customers or cooking -- instead of standing around. read more

Second time in a row for really poor quality food. Today I ordered a beef enchilada and crustos for desert. The enchilada sauce was like water and the crustos didn't have an ounce of sugar or cinnamon on them. I took them both to the counter for a refund. The manager never said I'm sorry, can I make you anything else, just pissed her off. She did mention her new cook put way too much water in the enchilada sauce. How do you deliver food that is obviously wrong and expect a customer to eat it? I had been eating at Taco Treat since I was a kid in the 70's, and I always enjoyed their food until a last visit home. It had been a few years since I was able to get to Helena...I always stop in for an Enchatreato and some spuds with cheese. My nephew warned me that it wasn't the same as it used to be since they changed the place. He was so right! I opened up the container...and it looked nothing like it used to. It was much smaller, the sauce was a weird color and smelled really gross. Everything was dry and didn't even taste like real meat. Even the potatoes were soggy and nasty and covered with what tasted like Velvetta cheese. Not to mention that it took over 15 minutes to get my "food". I tossed everything in the trash! I came from California where there are taco places on every corner ... as far as fast Mexican food , this is the go to place here in Montana for me, Taco Bell can't compare. The meat isn't greasy or have grisly pieces, the tomatoes tasted fresh. It was simple but tasty. I liked the two salsas at the table & my nachos were served on a regular place .
