I liked this place. Very friendly. It's not fancy but when you want a taco you need a taco and this is a good place for that. Artisan tacos go to senior Ramones, el Salvador Go to Cerrito's Pupuseria but you want good fast tacos everyday come here. The lamb was real good and I really liked the corn tortillas. This place deserves more reviews and more foot traffic. I am actually writing this review 6 months late, but I am writing it now because I had a random craving for their food (that's how good it is). I ordered their Elote Loco and Shrimp Tacos. Most Mexican places I've been to don't even serve elotes, so I was incredibly excited to try them here, and they did not disappoint! They were packed full of flavor and perfectly crunchy. The shrimp tacos were equally flavorfully fantastic, and my mouth is watering at the thought of them now! I went to Taco Zocalo today for the first time with two friends and was not disappointed. One friend and I both got the birria tacos, which were absolutely delicious. They were so flavorful, the meat was incredibly tender and the broth for dipping was rich and wonderful. Our other friend got two tacos with ground beef, which she said were also delicious. The restaurant has nice decor but was smaller and more self-serve than I expected. They do bring your food to your table but you order at the counter and get your own water, which is fine. I'm not a big fan of the overhead fluorescent lighting and the acoustics are a bit lacking (if you go at a busy time it may be challenging to hear your companions) but those are my only small complaints. Oh my goodness. I'm disappointed in myself that I've been missing out on this delicious food since we moved here. My husband gets lunch takeout at work frequently but I finally had the opportunity to grab lunch here on Tuesday. Their Tuesday special is A-mazing! The stew is just the perfect amount of salty to combine with the delicious tacos. The meat is cooked perfectly and their hot sauce choices are a great compliment. I am actually obsessed with this place. My friends and I love love this taco spot and mostly the birria is why we keep returning. It is so hard to find good reliable birria around here and this place is by far the best. Highly recommend trying and supporting this local business. So today I was craving tacos so I ask my boyfriend to take me here. We pulled up and it's in the same shopping center as a Wicket Door Pub. As soon as we go when we know it's going to be good. We order the birria tacos, steak tacos, and chips with queso. With a drink it was roughly $30. Everything we had was good. They brought the chips and queso out first end it was really good. It's a yellow Queso and for some reason I was expecting white. The tacos with the dipping sauce was DELICIOUS. I will DEFINITELY be back and wish I discovered this place sooner. read more

Update: Came back the next day for lunch, and got the exact same thing! SO YUMMY! Just picked up lunch from this establishment today and had their tacos for the first time. Probably some of the best tacos I've ever had. I am really happy! Everything was fresh and looked great, and the flavor was terrific! The guy on the phone when I placed my order was helpful and friendly, and they were nice to me when I arrived. It also didn't take long at all for my order to be ready, 10 minutes, but then I placed my order @ 1:15 which is after the typical lunch crush. Very happy and I'll definitely be going back. Spent 6.00. It took 3 of their tacos along with 2 more tacos at CR to fill me up. Had to keep adding spicy sauce to the birria tacos. They were a joke and for the price even moreso. I could feed 2 ppl a full meal with beans and rice for that amount. If you have a big appetite, get the bowl with ground beef. The tacos just don't cut it. Not enough food for a hungry person. Cashier/server was friendly enough, the over all feel of the restaurant, was nice. It is very clean and tries to have some ambiance. We sat outside, the patio area was really nice. Great place to relax and have some beers. I probably won't recommend this place for tacos. But if you're looking for a place to have some snack foods and beers this is a good spot. Tacos, I won't beat around the bush. I don't like them. I ordered 2 steak tacos. The meat was just meat, I don't think it was grilled it tasted a little like braised/cooked in water meat. No salt or seasoning of any kind on the steak meat. So right there I'm out. Rice was good, had cumin which is what is used in my home state in Mexico so that was nice. The tortillas were ok they were yellow corn, didn't taste made in house but that's ok that's the usual around Northern VA. My husbae had the grilled chicken tacos and said they were good. This place is great - lots of choices for your protein and type. I personally love the shrimp and grilled chicken tacos but my family gets the barbacoa beef and they only get those, so I guess they are all good depending on your taste. The elotes, where have these things been my whole life, quite possibly the best way to prepare corn. Also, if they have any pineapple habanero sauce, get it and maybe even a bottle of it. I ordered Birria Tacos and I love that it comes with consommé! It gives you the option of getting 4 birria tacos as well as the traditional 3, I think that's great because who doesn't want more tacos! The price was reasonable and I ordered for pick up. When I got there, I went right in and my order was already ready. I paid for my order and was out the door pretty quickly. I was starving and ate my tacos in the car, they were so good! I had them add jalapeños for a kick and it came with hot sauce. The tacos were loaded with meat and toppings which was very refreshing to see because not all places fill up their tacos well. We've ordered from Taco Zocalo twice in a short period of time because the food is absolutely delicious. That being said, their order accuracy is not great. Each time we've ordered, something hasn't been right. If you're not a picky eater and you're happy to eat whatever yummy food is put in front of you, then it's no big deal, enjoy the meal! If you're a picky eater who has to give specific instructions on what to hold or what to put on the side, then this ISN'T your place - go somewhere else. The first time I ordered here, I was surprised how small it was. For some reason I was expecting like a sit down table service restaurant, but it's not. This is an order at the counter and they'll call your number when the food is ready for you to pick up at the counter type of place. They do NOT do curbside pickup. The first time we ordered there, I thought I was ordering curbside pickup and went in my pajamas. I parked right in front of the place and sat there trying to call them and text them to get them to bring the food out to my car, but they didn't respond. Thankfully I had a mask in my car so I could put it on and go in to pick up my food at the counter. Again, GREAT food. Loved the tacos. Went back for the good food (and were again disappointed by the errors / order in accuracy). This is one of my favorite taco spots. I love the one in Reston too. I hope they still open one in Purcellville, but I'm sure they will wait till after all of this pandemic craziness is over. At any rate, the flavors are the same in Reston and Ashburn which is nice. The tacos are delicious. I like the barbacoa, the brisket, fish, and shrimp. My son loves the chicken. I am sure the other ones are good too but once I find a few I like I tend to stick with them. Love the different sauces, but know they or just pretty much to one sauce right now. Love the owners. Everything is 100% HALAL here which is so nice. I loved that they had 2 people on registers. It was pretty busy and they had my food out in about 10 minutes. Verrrry clean indoors and outdoors. I got the 3 tacos (mix and match) - one beef barbacoa, one steak taco, one BBQ chicken. My favorite was the beef barbacoa it was soooo good and tasty. The other 2 were good as well but this one was definitely the best. If it was closer I'd go here every week! read more

My husband took me to Taco Zocalo in Ashburn after he tried the Taco Zocalo in Reston. It was my first time here and it was so so good! I ordered 3 tacos (2 chicken tinga and 1 seafood on corn tortillas). I can already say that chicken tinga will be my go-to. We placed our order inside...It was very clean with hand sanitizer stations and the employee was wearing a face mask. We dined outside as they have outdoor seating. It's perfect, right next to the fountain. Great and fast service. Definitely will be back. read more

Went again, and per usual they have the best tacos (get the fish and beef barbacoa on corn tortillas !!) Their sauce and guacamole is amazing, and the staff is so helpful and kind. Zero stars! Arrived on Sunday night at 6:45PM. I had a companion of mine who I had invited to go with me. I have always loved the food here and he was dying to try it.... This time was a horrible experience. Closing time was apparently 7PM. At 6:50PM a young lady walked out of the kitchen and announced that the restaurant was closed and those of us in line had to order takeout. I said: "Really? So I can't sit down and relax and enjoy my meal your four different hot sauces? She said, in an elevated tone: " No! I have to close! You can sit outside and eat!" Then I said:" So, I won't have your 4-pack of sauces to taste and if decide I want another beer, I need to order extra beers now?" She said "Yes!" I told her it wasn't fair to me and my companion. We arrived before closing and we should be able to order our meals and enjoy them with full service until we were finished. I asked politely for her supervisor and she started to elevate her voice volume even more and told me: "He left and this is what I was told by my boss to do!" Now I am sorry but no one is going to raise there voice at me like that. So in a like tone of voice, I told her that I was going to write this negative review because of the way we were being treated. She spun her pretty little ass around and ran into the kitchen. My companion had already ordered so when I ordered I told the cashier I wanted 4 take out cups of each hot sauce. 16 tiny little cups total. Enough for me and my companion to share. She just stared at me. I said, "You can do that can't you?" Then she went into the kitchen and now another girl came out and took my order. I was exasperated by this time and went to the outside patio to sit and wait for my food. All of The sudden the first girl come strutting outside, stood staring down at me and my companion and said: "You have made me and the staff feel a afraid, and I am calling the police on you!" I just looked at her and said: "Really? Did you take my order?" Yes "Did you sell me two beers?" Yes "Then please. Do call the police and after they see what an idiot you are, I will finish my dinner, go home, call my attorney and tell him to file a lawsuit against this business, the owner AND you!" To which she spun around and stormed off the patio. We got our food, only 4 cups of sauce were provided. So we left, with open beers and went home to eat. Bottom line is this: 1) She should have never been left in charge. That's on the owner. 2) She was more concerned about pleasing her boss than the customers. That too is on the boss. 3) She should have not escalated the situation by threatening me. THAT is on her! This business has not only lost two customers, but I will never recommend them again to ANYONE! read more

Taco zocalo is a pretty nice little place, the decor is good and it looks like it has a nice sit in area even though I always take out there. It's convenient for me because I'm in the area a lot. The food is pretty good, I always enjoy it, the fish is always great when I get it and the chicken is just great. The only thing that I really have issue with is some of the pricing for the portion sizes, I always feel a little bit shortchanged on that part. Service is good though, again I'm mostly a takeout customer here. Overall would recommend it. read more

Ok so let me say first that I LOVE mexican food. Having been born and raised in the NOVA area, I've tried many taco or "texmex" establishments in the area and rarely have I come across good tacos. Taco Zocalo made it on my list of great tasting tacos. The beef chimichanga was awesome, I loved how the tortilla was crispy to perfection. Imagine a toaster strudel shell. Pretty good for your non-standard Mexican food. We went a little early for lunch on the weekend and ordered a chicken quesadilla and chick burrito. We had to wait around 5 minutes for our food to arrive. As others have noted, the place is small so don't really expect to social distance inside, and there is limited seating outside (with available heaters). Both the quesadilla and burrito were good. Quesadilla had plenty (almost too much) of cheese with a little bit of crispy bits. It didn't come with anything beyond sour cream, not sure if salsa or some sort of other sauce was an option beyond the not free side of guac. The burrito was a good size, but if you don't like red onions, the pico is going to be extra hot. Don't forget the mints. We would like to go back to try other meats and obviously the tacos as they seem to be highly recommended . read more

My husband and I shared chips and guacamole, four birria tacos, two chicken tinga tacos, and two fish tacos. Everything was delicious! The chicken tinga tacos had a mild flavor with just a little kick, the birria tacos were savory and well seasoned (maybe a little bit salty) and the portion size was plenty. We sipped the rest of the consommé like a soup! The fish tacos were good but I could barely taste the fish bc the fish to toppings ratio was off. The restaurant itself was very clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was clean as well. The cashier was friendly and she brought the food to our table when it was ready. The only negative was that they were out of ice but luckily the soda was cold. This was our first visit - we came specifically for the birria tacos and they did not disappoint. I frequent the Reston location and was excited to find out about them opening a 2nd location in Ashburn right next to my house! Great for my cravings but dangerous for my wallet! They finally opened up this past Friday even with all the Covid-19 mess and I finally got in there yesterday for Cinco de Mayo and it did not disappoint as always! Highly recommend the brisket and shrimp, they are my go to.
