Bison tacos? Catfish tacos? Pork belly tacos? Scallop tacos??? It's TOO MUCH!! My taco senses are overloaded! Has my quest to find a worthy adversary to the indomitable Torchy's Tacos finally come to fruition? For their part, Taco Deli has not made things easy for me; but alas, quests are not meant to be easy. First, they cleverly designed their website to be ABSOLUTELY USELESS; very non-mobile and non-Firefox friendly. Second, they stealthily placed their North location into some sorta Bermuda Triangle of navigation. Follow the Yelp map and you will be summarily FOILED (they must protect the scallop tacos from the unworthy masses)! Forced to regroup, we followed a tip from Steve B.'s Yelp review and finally found our way to the taco promised land. Now the hard part; which of the dozens of unique yummy-sounding tacos will be chosen to do battle? I went with the Bison, the Mojo Talopia, and the Catfish (curiosity got the better of me). But wait! Yet another challenge. Which of the 4 unique sauces will tempt me? Quickly eliminating the Mild and the Habanero (duh!), I grabbed the Medium (pretty good), and the creamy green spicy "Dona" sauce. The dialogue went like this: The Wife: "watch out, the Dona sauce is supposed to be really hot"; Your Hero: "wow, this sauce is really good..(short delay), OUCH!". The tacos (see photo) were all pretty good. Head and shoulders above most, but ultimately failing to reach the lofty pinnacle set by Torchy's. My favorite of the 3 turned out to be the Catfish; but eat it quickly, before the river of sauce\grease turns your whole basket into mush. The Bison was also a worthy contender. Will I be back? Yes, often. Is the Dona sauce my new favorite? Hell yes! (and ouch!) Will I ever choose Taco Deli over Torchy's? Nope! ... And so the quest continues. read more

I come to tacodeli fairly often. They are always good. Tried my first bahn mi and it did not disappoint. If you like cheese, I would definitely suggest the queso. The guacamole is delightfully spicy and that spice does linger on the tongue. My favorite thing here though is the Friday and Saturday daily lunch special of ceviche. It comes as either an appetizer or taco. Personally, I suggest the taco, but either is lovely. They also offer several types of kombucha. Most are tasty. On two separate occasions, I have attempted to order a group lunch through DoorDash for our TacoDeli lunch. The order get's cancelled with the following message....... "Unfortunately, your order from Tacodeli has been canceled. We attempted to send the order to the restaurant but they're not currently taking orders. Your order will be fully refunded back to the original payment method." Why not just remove yourself from DoorDash as opposed to continuously cancelling orders? read more

Definitely super mids tacos I'm from the vally so I'm used to authentic Mexican food so my expectations were not met even when there not that high to begin with but definitely ok service was on point food was made fast but definitely one of its kind I would recommend trying it if you haven't but don't expect authentic Mexican food read more

Sorry not good... I ordered two tacos which took about 8 mins to prepare. Not really a complaint for something freshly made to order. However, it was not as expected. I customized both tacos with potatoes that said "mashed" on the menu but was really "purée". No bueno. It was messy and very soggy. I certainly wasn't expected a taco passed as jar baby food. In addition to the four different kinds of homemade salsa, there are a variety of pork, beef, chicken, and vegetarian tacos to order a la carte. My favorite are the mole tacos. You can mix and match your favorites for a full meal. They offer wraps and salads, but I've never found a reason to waiver from the tacos. The line at lunchtime frequently goes out the door, but that just gives you enough time to figure out which combination of tacos you want. I like Taco Deli but they should pare down their menu. There are too many things to choose from. So usually the daily special is a good one but maybe they've run out by 1:30 or 2PM. (they close at 3PM is why) The "Blue Plate Special" sounds appealing to round out two tacos but some rice and lettuce and diced tomatoes won't help you. Two tacos are actually plenty for lunch. Maybe the more shredded the better. Some of them are almost indistinguishable from the other but try not to get the taco with a nasty slab of overcooked pork and some cabbage. read more

Love this place! There are so many choices that will make anyone indecisive. I've had so many different kinds of tacos here, from the steak tacos, to the carnitas to the cowboy taco and not to forget the breakfast tacos. The breakfast tacos are on a whole other level. Yes yes yes. I've tried a lot of different tacos here. All-time favorite is the pork belly (Delibelly). Both times I've had it, the pork was divine! Large chunks, perfectly crisp on the outside and oh, so juicy. Second would have to be the Space Cowboy, the veggie version of their famous Cowboy. Portobello mushrooms are amazing in this! Hands down this is the best place to go eat breakfast when you're hungover after a night of 6th street! Everything is super delicious even the ORANGE JUICE! I definitely recommend the any of the taco plates. The meals are cheap and still fill you up. It can be crowded in the morning, but the wait is completely worth it. The Burnet location has indoor and outdoor seating so it's pretty easy to get a spot if your party isn't too big. The staff is super nice as well! Yes - I'm a fan! Went here for lunch today and got a blue plate special with a mojo fish taco, conquistador taco, refried beans and rice. I preferred the fish taco to the pork (pork was a little crispy for my liking) but the ingredients were fresh and service was friendly. They are busy around lunchtime so expect a ten minute wait for your order. Next time I'll probably call ahead. This place is definitely one of my favorite places to visit for breakfast and lunch tacos. As you can see here, I decided on this deliciousness called the Space Cowboy . This lovely veggie taco is full of mushrooms, cheese, toppings, and it's not to mention it's sauce! I am ecstatic that I choose Tacodeli as the first many taco restaurants to visit in Austin. Food is good, if not somewhat over seasoned (salads sometimes taste like I'm eating pure salt). My main complaint is that they rarely get an order right. I've tried calling it in, placing one on-line, etc. and the order is still wrong. An example. I ordered a salad without cheese and sour cream for my son (no meat too) because he's a vegan. Out comes a salad with both cheese and sour cream on it. Same order. My salad had sirloin, which they left off (and which I paid an additional $3.00 for). It's hard to compete with tacos when you have many great taco places in Texas. Taco Deli is one of them. You know they're good when they close at 3PM and still make business. I don't know a time when I didn't have to wait in a long line to place my orders. *tip: call ahead of time to place an order for tacos if you don't want to wait on lines, but your tortilla may be soggy. I tried their ceviche Yucatan taco (Saturday special) and the Jess special breakfast taco. The ceviche yucatan taco was superb, it had the right portion of acidity from the lemon and crunchiness from the peppers. Give it a try! read more
