I've been on a hunt for a great taco spot, and I think I finally found it. It wasn't busy when we got there, and our food came out pretty quickly. I ordered an al pastor, lengua, and asada taco, and honestly, they were all so good. The asada was my favorite, but the other two were right behind it. The meat was flavorful, and the salsas had some heat to them, which I appreciated!!! My boyfriend ordered the chicken burrito, and it was just okay. The chicken was shredded and could've used a little more seasoning for my taste. I'm also not a huge fan of lettuce in a burrito, so that may have played a part in it not being my favorite. That being said, I'm definitely coming back because those tacos were SO good. Next time, I want to give the burrito another shot and order it my way. If it's anything like the tacos, I have a feeling it'll be a winner. read more

Las Trancas is one of the favorite spots that my wife and I enjoy getting a meal. We've tried almost everything on the menu from Tortas to Quesadillas to Tacos. Our favorite meats are the Asada, Pastor, Chicharron, Chorizo and Campechano. The food is absolutely delicious and the portion sizes are filling. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. 10 out of 10! This is one of those authentic permanent style food trucks with benches outside and plenty of seating. There was an understandable line to order at the window with a lot of patrons seeming to be from Mexican descent. That's how you know it's good - culture recognizes culture!! We shared a burrito and it tasted fresh and super authentic, as well as being generously portioned! Parking was a little bit difficult because they don't have a dedicated parking lot. You have to park around the area. We looked around for a little bit late at night for some street parking. We placed our food at the window and they gave us one of those buzzers for when the food is ready. We happily ate in their outside patio seating that had plenty of tables and benches and a rooftop area. Lots of people chatting and eating. Austin's taco truck scene is so abundant that there is practically one in every corner of the city. One of the most popular options has been Las Trancas, located along the busy Cesar Chavez in the heart of East Austin. On any given night of the week, don't be surprised to find a large crowd gathering or lines forming. it's not hard to see why: the service is quick, the outdoor seating is ultra-spacious, and the food is consistently decent. They've turned a taco stand into basically a large patio in one of the most desirable parts of the city. And to answer the rising demand, they've made it ultra convenient for anyone who comes here. There's a good amount of parking, most everyone speaks very good English, and they also accept credit cards. Tacos are in the $3-3.50 range with burritos and tortas for as much as $13. Not backbreaking prices, but certainly not as affordable as the competition. Affordability may just be Austin being Austin. (#1) The asada and pastor are solid meats, but their cabeza, chicharron, and lengua are my preferred options. The barbacoa is more of a brisket and similarly to their carnitas, was a tad dry for my liking. Campechana is definitely worth considering since it's a go-to option for many and has its own dedicated plate at $16. Chorizo, tripa, buche will be my next protein targets for future visits. Coming in second is the pastor. It was good. The asada was okay. A little too dry for me and lack of flavor. The green sauce is top notch! That alone is 5 stars with the barbacoa. The lengua tacos are, hands down, the best thing here. Strike that - these are the best lengua tacos in all of Austin. It's juicy, flavorful, and all around satisfying. The pastor tacos stood out to me as well and it was packed full of meat. I thought the asada was too dry and the chicharron too spicy. I came here with a coworker because we were both craving tacos. I ended up getting 3 tacos (2 chicken, 1 vegetarian), but preferred the chicken over the veggie. All of my tacos were packed full, but super messy to eat since the tortillas are so small. Price was reasonable; it was like $3/$3.25 each I think. Can of soda was $1.50. Call me ignorant, but tacos are just tacos. They're all pretty good, unless they're not. Las Trancas passes the vibe check. Tacos are wicked cheap, as the good Lord intended. Living in Austin, everyone wants to inflate on pricing, but Las Trancas stays true to the community by serving food at a respectable price. My first taco truck I went to when I moved to Austin and it is still one of my top taco trucks in Austin. There can be a line depending on the time you come, but it moves quickly. They have a variety of meat cuts. My favorites are their cabeza, buche, and campechano. The only cons for Las Trancas, their burritos are not very good and their Al Pastor is very mid/often dry. I miss the days when each taco was less than $2 per taco but gotta accept the changes and cost of living in Austin. If I recall correctly it may be slightly cheaper if you pay with cash than card but don't quote me on it. read more

By far some of the BEST tacos we've had since living in TX! We prefer the raw diced onions versus the grilled onions that seem to be the norm here, we don't have to ask them to make the switch. It's the little things that makes me want to come back, but not only that, the tacos are so flavorful even without adding the salsa, but it's always a plus to have it on our tacos. Super classic taco truck near downtown. They have some of the more interesting cuts of meat here, and I'd recommend trying some of them. Price wise we paid $20 for 5 tacos, so around $4 each. The tacos are medium sized, but I'd say 3-4 are enough to fill up if you're hungry. Stomach did feel a bit funny after so maybe I was too adventurous with the meats. read more

Their menu shows that they offer veggie quesadillas but when I asked about it, they said oh it's just cheese and the veggies come on the side. The service was straightforward and easy. - The pastor taco and asada taco were both fairly priced and pretty solid tacos. I liked the pastor taco a bit more than the asada but both are worth it. - The barbacoa quesadilla comes with vegetables (lettuce,tomato, jalapeño, and avocado), sour cream, and the side sauce. The quesadilla was alright but I wasn't too crazy about the barbacoa. The side sauce that came with the items was SPICY. Overall, the tacos at las trancas are well priced and decent. However, I thought that the overall quality was slightly below other Austin taco spots. and so I wouldn't necessarily seek Las Trancas out unless I was in the area. The food was absolutely delicious - because it's my first time here I got three tacos and they were all great. My biggest mistake is not getting them all on corn tortilla. I have good memories of coming to Las Trancas a few years ago and getting their chicken quesadillas, but this time I went I saw it wasn't on the menu, so I am not sure if my memory is correct. I got the jamon quesadilla plate, which was warm and came with tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, and avocados. The ham tasted a little too much like classic lunch meat, but I still liked it with the avocados. It said $10 on the menu, but I think I was charged more for using card, although it didn't say anywhere on the menu that the prices were reflected for cash only. It is still good value for the price. The tacos were not as great of a value as my friend got two tacos that were very small, so I gave her one of my quesadillas. She said the tacos were very good though. Our food came out quickly. The food is highly seasoned so anyone with GERD might want to ask them to hold the cebollita or go easy on the salsa. Don't forget your Jarrito with your taquitos. My best friend brought me here and said that these were her go-to tacos for the DT area. I thought we'd give them a try and was excited to try them.
