Bruhhhhh... My guy Brian (I think? Had an arm tattoo and likes to rock climb) helped me out today, and hooooo dang lemme tell you about Tacoma Screw. I'm building an SFFPC (small form factor pc) and everything in it is a quarter of the size of a regular computer. I needed screws that were shorter than any I could find, a tiny one that didn't fit anything I threw at it, and to unstrip my power supply after using the wrong screw. I carried the thing in, plonked it on the counter, and asked if he could help me do even one of those things, not expecting anything like what I got. THIS GUY starts running to the back, checking things, looking things up. He comes back with different screws what, 7 times? One time he took one of my screws and cut it for me. In 20 minutes, he fixed every problem I had. My graphics card doesn't sag anymore! My power supply is secured! My water cooling unit has screws that fit perfectly with the washers I had. He made my $3,000 PC look exactly as great as it should. By the end of this he was sweating. It was hot. He was masked up. He was moving and shaking. What a guy. And then GET THIS. My total was a dollar sixteen. $1.16. That's insane. I left with like 30 specialty screws I couldn't get anywhere else. Cherry picked, bagged up, and handed right to me. By the nicest guy. Wild. He explained to me that even though they make their profit off of selling to construction companies wholesale, he loved helping out with projects like this because they were interesting, and that Tacoma Screw would always offer low prices to hobbyists looking for special sizes. What a gem! I went in for a hammer (how does one lose a hammer? And they were so helpful. I picked out the first one I saw that was 16oz and when the cashier was ringing me up, she asked what I would use it for. I told her it was an IKEA wardrobe and she said let's get you another one, this is expensive and used by people doing much more work. She found one for me that was a 1/3 of the price! We had a nice conversation at the register and I will certainly come back here for any other tools needed. My wife and I moved to Seattle yesterday and in the move I misplaced the bolts to our daughters crib. I spent half the day turning the house upside down and cringed at the thought of having to find replacements. What I thought was going to be half my day ended up being 15 minutes and $7 including the Allen wrench I needed. I was looking around and Mark asked me if I needed help. He was incredibly nice and he seemed genuinely eager to help me solve my problem. He brought me out the employee only exit saving me a walk back through the store and he had me bring in the parts of the crib I brought. He found the perfect parts in the back and rung me up. Again, $7! This man looked like he could either be the owner of the company or someone in management and he treated a $7 sale like he was selling me a Rolex. Whatever you are laying this man, give him a raise. I would come back here again even if I could save money elsewhere. If everyone were as nice as mark, there would be no wars. read more

Had a couple of odd screws fall out of my main circuit board breakers recently and needed to replace them. They were essentially metric set screws and Rick in the Bremerton Store, did a great job of matching the screws and even double-checked to make sure they fit nice and tight. He probably spent 15 minutes with me, all for a sale of less than $2. If that's not stellar customer service, I don't know what is. Who can resist a free screw?!? And a free cup of coffee to boot! I needed one single solitary screw to fit my drawer-pull; the nice man at Home Depot couldn't provide the length I needed so he sent me on over to Tacoma Screw for the longer version my drawer-pull required. I was immediately impressed and amused by the take-a-number device just inside the door (it's funny because the device quickly spits the number onto the floor if you aren't quick enough. I wasn't). I was then really really caught off guard by so much of the non-screw merchandise! You really have quite the selection to check out at Tacoma Screw! Tons of stuff to buy if you're handy that way! Tons of stuff, I say! Tons! I heard them call the number after mine which snapped me away from the shelves and back to attention; I wandered on up to the counter to request my screw. I fortunately brought the pull with me, handed it over and mentioned it happened to be metric. Within seconds, the nice man returned, handed me a newly conjoined pair of best friends and shooed me away with a friendly, "off ya go!" And that's the story of my free screw. When I need a good screw, I go here. This place rocks the hizzie. Cold dipped galvanized, zinc plated, lock-nut, you name it, they got it. A screw for this, a screw for that. They also have some great tools to get your screw on. I was working on a project a little while back and went to the Home Depot to get some goodies, but was majorly disappointed at their mini plastic bag screws, nuts and washer selection. I mean, if you need 100 bolts, washers and nuts, do you really want to buy 20 mini bags at .99 cents each? I went down to Tacoma Screw and got all of it for under 6 bucks! YES! So, sometime around 2002, the little beeper on my keyless-entry for the 4Runner lost the screw holding the thing together. So for years, I drove around with the beeper remote held together with tape. Occasionally the tape would wear off, and I'd re-tape it. One day, on a whim, I stopped in to see if they could help me out. It went like this - Go in, take number. Get number called. Helpful man looks at remote, says "Oh, that looks like a [technical screw term], probably a [technical screw term] or a [technical screw term]. How many do you need? Me: two. Him: I'll be right back. He brought back exactly two screws that fit perfectly. I was in and out of there in less than 5 minutes. I can't remember if the charge was one dollar or two. Could be a great store, if it weren't for the service. I was a "basket case", that is I had a whole bag of metric hardware replaced. They guy who helped me was very friendly, and was able to find replacements for most of my hardware. Problem was, he replaced it all with Standard hardware! I was clear that I needed metric, he said he would see what he could do, and then handed me that crap without mentioning that it wasn't metric! I didn't verify at the store(I should have!) because I trusted him: he works at a damn screw store! Then, while I was there, another employee acted incredibly annoyed and actually scolded an elderly woman when she asked questions about a drill gun. He was pissed at grandma for trying to give him her business! She left, and I would have too if I weren't already in the process of paying for my goods. They didn't have a couple of the exact screws that wanted, but they did have similar sized screws with allen-caps instead of the hex-cap that I was looking for. But I was willing to settle for them regardless. The people are friendly, and they work quickly to get you the parts you need. The parts are reasonably priced. As a home/auto tinkerer that needs one or two of something and not a contractor buying stuff in the 1,000s, I'd assume that I'd be the last person on Tacoma Screw's list to make happy. Completely wrong. I've gone in only around four or five times in the last couple years but, each and every time I've been there they've not only had what I was looking for (carriage bolts smaller than 1/4"-20, set screws, split pins, etc.) but actually took me back and let me look through their bins to make sure it was exactly what I needed. Thanks to them and a sliver-sized tension pin they gave me no-charge (!!!), I got our Peugeot's headlight/wiper switch working again. Good stuff. I can't thank them enough. This is the best place to go if you need anything in bulk. The guys know their stuff and always help me out with what exactly I need. The prices are very comparable to big box stores but the service isn't. I've given up going to the big box stores because those people are usually clueless, the guys at Tacoma Screw are extremely knowledgeable. Everytime I come here, it's a relief. Tacoma Screw ain't all that, but at least they tell you up front what they're going to do to you, and they're really nice about it. I deal with this location of Tacoma Screw at least once a week. Hauke G. hit on the fact that they have screws at reasonable prices -- I'm usually buying them by the box of 12,000. Because I work nearby, this is the closest hardware store, and when we need something in a pinch (wrench, drill, hardhat, widget, whatever), which is daily, someone from the company I work for goes to Tacoma Screw. If it isn't a screw (and sometimes even if it is), and you're buying it at Tacoma Screw, you can almost assuredly find it much cheaper if you shop around. On average for the things I'm interested in buying, the only place I've found that is more reliably expensive is Fastenal. So if their prices are that annoying, why did they get four stars? If I had the ability to give 3.5, they'd get it. I did almost give them three, because I told myself if I came to a half-point issue, I'd round down. I rounded up in this case simply because their customer service is really above and beyond what you would expect from any store that isn't Nordstrom. I myself am in sales (although of a much different sort), and I truly envy their customer service -- they are a prime example of everything done right in that area. They are also terribly convenient if you happen to have an account with them. Whenever I am on a jobsite or have a crew on a jobsite and they happen to need something, there seems to frequently be another Tacoma Screw location nearby. Despite what I said in the first paragraph, and maybe this is the example that proves the rule, they get some really good deals on power tools. But truthfully, I don't like buying power tools from them if they aren't on sale. Their range of Milwaukee and Makita tools is extensive and it is hard to find the same selection among their competitors. Come here if you need something. Don't come here to bargain shop unless you saw an ad for it. read more

Was having a hard time finding a screw for a very old door handle. Several people recommended Tacoma Screw, so went there hoping they might have a solution. The associate that helped me told me what the problem was immediately (threads gone). He promptly bored new threads then found a screw that worked! I didn't ask for a price before he fixed it but couldn't imagine it would cost very much, was thinking a few dollars. It took him about five minutes from the time I walked in the door to completion and the best part was the charge! $0!! Can you believe that! A business actually caring about customers more than the cost of a screw! Have I found a gem or what? With that attitude toward customer service this is my new best company to do bus was with. I was given a BBQ that had a weird bolt missing from the lid. I took its twin to Lowe's without success. I went to Tacoma Screw and they did the best they could and sold me two bolts that were VERY close, but not identical. I also wanted a heat resistant fabric washer, of the type that are on the BBQ, and they couldn't help there - but they sent me up to Sutter Home & Hearth several blocks away to see if they could help. No luck there and I went back to Tacoma Screw to get a couple of their black and locking washers to cover my bet and make sure I didn't have to return. Each time the sales clerks listened carefully for what I wanted and took all the time needed to be sure they properly addressed my requirement. My total purchase was $.50; certainly competitive with the smallest sale of the week, at least, but you'd never know it by the amount of attention they gave me. I got home and attached the lid with the bolts and washers from Tacoma Screw and all was good. They've got all kinds of other cool things in there, too, and if you're looking for heat resistant paint or strange fasteners I'll bet they have something that works. I love this place.
