For a first visit we noticed this dentist office was more technically advanced than our old dentist with more modern equipment. We are taking off a star because Dr. Kay doesn't deal with the business side of things which can be a good thing because then he can only worry about the best treatment for your teeth instead of being distracted by the business side of things. We found out from the office manager is is one of several locations owned by two dentist brothers. The one star down is because they do not have a sliding scale for low income people and charge New York City Prices in Dutchess county. The insurance companies are able to negotiate a discounted price but if you need major work and are on a limited income and have trouble covering the deductible they don't negotiate on a sliding scale do to your income but rather refer you to care credit so you'll probably be dead before you pay off your dental care. With the volume of patients running through this place they could have a little more compassion for lower income people or even donating some dental time back to the community. I'm not very happy with the business side of things but will update on future visits as the work I need will take time that my last dentist couldn't get to because he was to busy.

The office clerk could just not get my insurance info straight and kept telling me to call the insurance myself because they were denying services that should have been covered. I ended up calling insurance myself and getting a discrepancy between what the office was telling me and what the insurance was telling me, which was that services were being submitted with the wrong code. I asked her to resubmit which she said she did but never returned my calls. As luck would have it, I ended up with a toothache last week. When I went in, that person no longer worked there, big surprise, and my claim was still outstanding so I had a balance. I asked them to resubmit to insurance. with the correct codes. Instead of realizing that there was a misunderstanding, of which I was at no fault, I was talked down to and cut short during my attempt to understand what was being denied and why. I was told that I would get a statement in the mail and when I have it in front of me, I can read it myself. How crazy is that? To add insult to injury, as Dr. Petrosino was examining me, I'm in pain and she is not sympathetic or compassionate at all and was actually sarcastic and snide with me as she tried to figure out which tooth was hurting. Needless to say, her people skills can use a refresher course and someone needs to start properly coding insurance in that office. Ridiculous. I actually wanted to like this doctor and didn't want to change dentists so I was looking for reasons to stay and saying, the next time I go or call, it will be better, but to be honest, each time I called, the interaction was worse than the last. If you're considering her, save yourself a headache and go somewhere else.

I had to stop smiling, or be very careful about how big a smile I could have. Not being able to smile fully was a problem because I am in sales, and creating good relationships with my clients is vital for business. The staff were all so incredibly friendly-- from the ladies at the front desk who helped me make an appointment and sign in to the patient and understanding nurse staff who took my X-Rays and went over the details with me, right down to the Dentist himself who asked me questions and patiently listened. They made me feel comfortable and didnt do anything without fully explaining and getting my approval to move forward. I've never felt so respected and valued as a patient-- a real person!-- before. The place itself was very clean and modern which is also a huge plus and they helped me figure out my problem quickly, providing an insightful solution that was very careful to stay within my budget while offering satisfying options, moving forward. Even got a cavity filled with Dr. Crohn with proper pain relief of the numbing cream. So at least 4 stars with that. Years later, I got a cavity filled by Dr. Allison Douglas. For pain relief, she only offered the novacaine shot, in which i refused. But it wasn't until I was crying that she stopped and offered the numbing cream. After she applied the numbing cream it was better. However after the appointment, I went home- tooth that got filled hurt for like a week. Also I wasn't given any information on side effects or directions. to boot I also had steak for dinner, and I normally love steak but the tooth hurt and made it hard to eat for a few days. Luckily it subsided after a week. Note 3 stars for that experience Fast forward a few years after that, It was my annual cleaning, Tara asked me about my wisdom teeth, and forgetting, I told her the wrong information, which were that my bottom ones were intact. How easy it is for a doctor to check records, especially if they don't remember or anything? Part of that appointment was xrays, which were taken. Now during the xray process, Tara was understanding on how the positions can be not natural, and tried to make me as comfortable as possible. Which helps. Even while doing the cleaning, she stopped for a second if I was a little sensitive or if my gums bled. Now, when the dentist Alison Douglas came in to check the xrays, she told me, oh you may need more fillings. Now I didn't say anything at that time, but If my last filling with her was a bad experience, and as long as I don't have teeth pain myself- I don't really want any dentist work done. Alison also failed to explain to me where on the xray, she sees I have cavities. She kept saying "Oh you know, You know" Obviously If I Am asking then No, I don't know. I am also a firm believer in that healthcare is both the doctor and the patient agreeing to a treatment plan that works for the patient. After that, It was the last straw and I wouldn't recommend this office at all. Maybe for the other dentist Dr. Crohn and My Hygentist Tara. But other than that- No because some need pain relief. I also no longer live in the area. Hope this office realizes that bad experiences can cause Trauma, and sometimes that can be no good for health in the long run, and I say that because I haven't been to the dentist since, and this was more than a few years ago now.

Cleaning is always comforting and she stopped if i was bleeding or feeling senstive. Gotta admit that removing tartar has been a little uncomfortable to me because it is like scraping the tooth, and I brush my teeth twice a day with no issues. But the way tara does it is very gentle. I have 3 stars because last visit, which was years ago, but the other dentist alison i believe filled my cavity without novacaine, and it wasn't until i was crying that she applied the numbing cream on my tooth, which i had to suggest. Didn't explain any side effects either, as for a week, i couldn't chew that much and my tooth that got filled hurt. Didn't even tell me to take advil or offer medicine for pain relief. After i got the cavity filled, at my last appointment, i did xrays, and they found a spot where they may have to fill a cavity, but it was a small one. They didn't even show me that xray, or ask if my tooth bothers me. For me, If a tooth bothers me then i am more likely to get it filled, not just because "I have to.." Consider what the patient wants as well as what may be needed on the doctor's end. I don't recommend coming here because of the dentists. The hygentists are fine, but the dentists seem to have some kind of agenda and not care what the patient wants. More so because of my truama, i may not ever go to a dentist again. If i find getting a cavity filled hurts, i need to be sedated or at least with a strong numbing agent. For example, Dr. Barry noticed a small hairline fracture in one of my teeth. I've been to other dentists in the past who would have ordered me to have a crown asap. During my procedure, with laughing gas, I was told that I was going to have a root canal. I was pulled off the gas and told to sign some papers. I did this, and then went back under the gas, feeling nauseated the entire time. It was then the worst root canal of my life; long, painful and nauseated. When I came out the dr and the nurse looked visibly shaken like they hadn't expected it. I was sent home WITHOUT a prescription for antibiotics. Over the next three days, my swelling went from bad to worse as my neck began to swell up in the front. The pain was unbelievable. On Monday I called the office as soon as they opened and todl them that my neck was swelling. I was told to take ibuprofen and use a hot compress. On Tuesday, it got even worse and I began to struggle with the feeling of something in my throat. I went into the office and the dentist looked at me and said "Well, I think it's an infection, so we will give you another round of antibiotics. I said "You never gave me a first round" and they looked panicked. They sent me to an oral surgeon in New Milford who did x-rays. They could see the infection and told me if it got any worse to go immediately to the ER. The next morning, I woke up and could barely breathe. My husband raced me to the ER where they pumped me full of steroids and antibiotics and did a CAT scan on my neck. I was there for nine hours, and I have never been so scared in my life. There are no words to capture how scary it is feeling your windpipe slowly close. When I reached out to the dental team, I heard NOTHING. They did not check on me, they did not offer any help or empathy. This mistake, and their lack of follow up not only almost cost me my life, but it cost around 8,000 in medical bills. When I went to them with a reasonable request to pay back thte money that their mistake had cost me (and nothing more), they couldn't be bothered. I had to pursue it for months until an outside company reached out to me to say they believed they did nothign wrong. I have never gotten an apology or even a voicemail from the dentist. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. When i went for a follow-up to another dentist (since I refused to go back), she told me that my root canal was done improperly and that we would need to do it again because it was done sloppily. I wept in the chair at the idea of having anything done in that area. This was my experience with the Dental Team; one that I unfortunately for my health and my bank account, will never forgot.
