I was driving home from Nashville and passing through Jackson right about lunchtime. I had planned to eat somewhere else, but I have to admit this place caught my eye from the interstate. I didn't know anything at all about it, but the idea of tacos sure sounded good. Now I love Mexican food, and I love Tex Mex. And occasionally, I even love some American tacos. My experience is usually that Mexicans do it much better, even if it is American style, but I love Panchos style too. So I don't want to start off exploring the menu with fancy and crazy stuff. Let me start with something simple. How about some plain old American tacos? I order and sit down. There's a date and time on my receipt, so I know how long it takes for my order to arrive. It takes ten minutes for my chips and cheese to show up on my table. It takes five minutes more to get two tacos. This is unacceptable, even by Taco Bell standards, but I don't know of any Mexican restaurant that would allow this kind of service. I have been to some pretty bad Mexican places, but I'd have to say that 85% of them are excellent with service. A typical experience would be chips on the table within 1-2 minutes, Cheese within 3-4, and tacos on the table in less than ten. I never can figure out why Americans can't keep up! I don't think that Tacos 4 Life even made their own chips. As for the food, it's ok, but not as good as a Mexican would typically serve. The ground beef just didn't seem right. It seemed to have artificial fillers or something. It was wrong in texture, and in taste. It was more like a product than a meat. It wasn't hot either. A Mexican would serve it on a plate that had been in the oven, and charged me the same price. Speaking of price, the meals don't come with a drink. For what I paid for two tacos and cheese, I could have had much better at a Mexican place. The tacos were a bit larger than some places, but I could have eaten 3 instead of the two. My meal came to $13.98. My change was $6.02. Since they gave me $.02, I'll put my two cents in. I see that Cindy likes to respond to reviews, which is good, but I'm not asking for money or free coupons, or anything else. I'll just offer my opinion and perhaps you can clarify the business concept and explain how this works. So I'm looking around and noticing all these signs talking about starving children. Buy a meal and save some kid from hunger. That's their whole business model and campaign strategy. So I'm curious and I do a quick google search. I find conflicting information. $.22 for each meal. $.22 for certain meals. $.22 for certain menu items. What? I'm the guy who likes to know how things work. So they donate $.22 to a non profit charity when they sell certain things. They claim this buys a meal for starving children. Well how in the world does it cost me $14 to eat when I could feed a kid for $.22? Where could I even take a kid for $.22? I'm sure that prisons even spend more! I don't know anything at all about that charity organization, but I'm sure they have overhead and expenses. So they probably aren't putting the entire 22 cents towards s child's meal. Even a can of beans costs $1! What can you eat for less than a quarter? Ramen noodles? So I feel like I paid $3 too much for my meal given the other options I have with competition to sell tacos, but his place justifies that by advertising to feed starving kids good meals. Yes, I'm sure they've done much more than I have to fight world hunger, but this appears like it could be a sales approach to brag about. Altruism is when people make sacrifices to give out of their heart, not build a business out of it and advertise. So I paid $3 too much for my meal, but they gave twenty two cents to a starving kid somewhere in the desert. Sam Kinison said to stop sending them food. He said to send them uhaul vans and moving boxes so they could move to where the food was. I don't think I'll come back. I did have a few complaints with Tulum, but I liked it better. I have eaten at this business twice, and each time the meal has been rather flavorless and far too expensive. I'm sure the primary driver of business was supposed to be the college in town, but it is located pretty far away from it. Queso is fairly decent( hard to mess that up), but the tacos leave allot to be desired. I have no problem with Tex mex food, but charging a premium for it is questionable. Establishment is very clean and the staff is incredibly nice. If you want good tacos in Jackson please patronize one of the many food trucks in the areas. read more

I stopped in to try some tacos, they had interesting flavor combinations and a nice selection for everyone, even vegetarians. I got 1 steak and 1 carnitas, they were very flavorful. I really liked the shell, not sure if it was a fried tortilla or flatbread but it's good. They are quite pricey but have a good story and who can argue paying more for food if it provides a meal for someone in need. I will definitely go back to try other flavors. read more

I've been to tacos for life three times now. The plus's The atmosphere and decor is really well done, the sides are really good ie corn salad salsa and guacamole. Negatives: No beer! I am so glad that this restaurant has finally opened in Jackson. Today was my first visit so I tried the guacamole, Mexican creamed corn, classic beef taco and the fried chicken taco. The place was packed for lunch but my food came quickly. My meal was delicious and I enjoyed all of it. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They were super busy and kept the dining room clean. While I was here at least 5 employees asked me if everything was ok. I look forward to eating here often. Update... Been back several times the wait time for food was over 20 minutes. The tacos weren't crispy like they were in the past. The bottoms were soggy and didn't seem to have as much flavor as before. Tried this place twice. Starting with the taste of the food. I got the crab cake taco and the Korean bbq. I would rate the taste an absolute 10. My absolute favorite item on a menu anywhere in Jackson. The best and freshest ingredients and unique. My only downside is the price for quantity of meat on each taco. An over abundance of toppings and not enough meat. The sauces and mostly toppings, does make them rather messy. I don't mind that on a day I'm not working. My issue was strictly the price. We ordered 2 combo meals. That's 2 tacos and a SUPER SMALL SIDE. And we ordered 2 drinks and a single serve guacamole and chips. (amazing guacamole) The price for lunch was almost $35. That's just way too much to pay for lunch very often for most working class people. Unless it's a special occasion. I left feeling satisfied, however my dining companion is a working man and he left hungry. So based on this experience, I gave this place a 3 star. The taste of the food was great. Fresh avocado, tomatoes wonderful. I would have rated better but the service was crap. We got our nachos appetizer the waiter said this place was chaos. I just laughed it off because he actually brought our nachos quick. But one we finished it took us forever to get our main dish. When they brought my tacos they forgot my side. I went up to registers to get the corn and got passes by 3 employees till this one finally helped me. One table waited so long the manager came out apologizing. Good food! Poor service! I will start this off by saying I'm from California, where you can get pretty authentic and amazing tacos and Mexican food. This is a sad hipster fusion attempt at Mexican food. The tacos are bland, rice was cooked incorrectly, the side salad was the only good thing we ate. They also only offered a bland taco sauce, no Tapatio or Cholula in sight.
