I've been meaning to try Tacos Chukis for months and finally went in for dinner with a friend yesterday! I had high expectations coming in because I've been told it was one of the best places for tacos in Seattle, but I found myself to be quite disappointed. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 12:30pm) and it was bumping. A constant lineup of people waiting to order food. The inside is spacious with many tables inside along with a few seats outside. You order first, pay and then food is brought out to you. The menu is small consisting of tacos (5 types), mulitas, baby burritos, quesadillas and tortas. Basically, 7 items on the menu. - 2x House tacos ($2.75 US) - adobada pork taco with melted cheese, guacamole, grilled pineapple, onion, ciantro and salsa. We liked the sweetness from the pineapple and both the guacamole and salsa. This helped to balance the flavours but man oh man, the adobada is overpoweringly salty. Couldn't get over that. - 3x Tacos ($2.35 US) - we went with a carne asada (steak), pollo asado (chicken breast) and nopales (grilled prickly pear catcus leaf). The best was easily the carne asada. Pollo asado was oddly dry and again, incredibly salty. The nopales was decent but flavours were mute. - Mulita ($2.99 US) - the only difference is it's served with monterey jack cheese and in between two corn tortillas. Almost like a hybrid between a taco and quesadilla. We got ours with carne asada. Again, the only meat we enjoyed. - Baby burrito ($4.00 US) - didn't find you get much inside their baby burritos. It's definitely baby sized. Wouldn't get this again. Pollo was again salty. TC's tacos were okay but didn't impress. Too heavy on the seasoning. read more

I love how efficient this restaurant is! You order online and they will send you a message how long your food will take, about 10 min for me. When your food is done they text you again. Love me some Taco Chukis! I didn't know about this South Lake Union location 'til my friend mentioned we check it out after being in the area, so was happy to learn of this spot. The warmth from the fold of the tortilla, pressing down on all the goodies inside was so mouth-watering delicious! And of course I can never visit Taco Chukis without getting the classic Taco Chuki. The guac and grilled pineapple on top of the pork makes all the difference, having a sweet and savory combination that is executed perfectly. GAH, I want some now. Unlike the Capitol Hill location, this South Lake Union one feels much more spacious, less-cramped and has ample seating! Oftentimes I'm struggling to find a table with friends at the original location, but here at South Lake Union the struggle isn't real. It's modern, bright and fits the South Lake Union neighborhood.
