These were so yummy we ordered the baby burrito right after. Meat was tender, perfect amount of sauce and balance. The only thing I would change is the size of that pineapple on the pastor. This place was recommended to me by a friend and I've been dying to try it. It's a hidden gem right in the middle of Capitol Hill, you have to walk upstairs to find it. So meaty and steak wasn't chewy and had nice char-like flavor. The Taco Pollo which was chicken was not bad, maybe I didn't get a good bite but it was on the drier side and mild in flavor. Overall, the tacos just lacked flavor, from the tortillas to the meat itself. The asada taco tasted more just like a beef taco. The adobada taco tasted even more like just a pork taco, lacking any of the usual taste of adobada like the smokiness or sweetness. I feel like I knew it wouldn't be very good as soon as I saw the color of it and saw how pale the meat was, as it usually has a richer red color. Also, the tacos had very very little onion and cilantro, which was disappointing as well. As food, these tacos are fine, but as tacos they definitely do not hold up. read more

I've been coming here for years and love the upstairs location. It's like a hidden spot that is off the beat and path from Capitol Hill. It's refreshing that Chuki's is its own thing and a pioneer in the fast food made well taco craze. It's somewhere that locals will take friends from out of town and it's up there with Carmelo's. I really enjoy the nopal taco and the slimy cactus in transformed into a robust flavor bomb. Add the green salsa and it's on another level. The al pastor is always my favorite and the hand made tortillas just capture the leanness of the meat and juices. Portions aren't huge and there's the baby burrito. I'm ok with not huge portions as I often feel that some Mexican restaurants may over compensate for flavor with size. The horchata is nice and balanced and at this taqueria simplicity is king. The Beacon Hill location feels more communal and the South Lake Union location is more tech. Service is ok, staff don't seem like they go above and beyond. I decided to bring my sister to Tacos Chukis since we were early for a reservation we had in Capitol Hill and she's never tried it. I ordered two of the Tacos Chukis (special house taco, with adobada pork, grilled pineapple, melted cheese, onion, cilantro, salsa and guacamole on a soft corn tortilla) and two asada baby burritos. Watching the cook blow his nose and casually wipe it on his shirt--no mask, no shame--really added a bold, mucus-forward note to the atmosphere. Nothing pairs quite like tacos and the lingering thought of "Should I call my doctor or just pray?" The vibe was less street food and more street immunity challenge. I kept waiting for handwashing to make a cameo, but it never showed up. Seattle has too many amazing taco spots for me to play roulette with my digestive system.
