Colleague had the Huaraches del hombre. I had a steak quesadilla and an Al Pastor taco. Taco was good. Steak was tasty but dry. Colleague could not finish his food as the double layer of carbs were too much it seems. The owner was very friendly. He recommended items as he realized that we had never eaten at the place before. Cool small spot to grab a quick bite. Due to space and parking I order take out more often. However, you can drive in on the side of business (narrow driveway) and park in the back. Love their carne asada tacos, beef flautas, huaraches, and liquado de platano con chocolate (banana chocolate smoothie). I tend to order the same things so I can't speak to anything outside those items. The huaraches can be a little spicy for some because they add their green salsa which typically is mild in other places but spicier here -- still delicious though just something to ask about if you're sensitive to spice. This is a hidden gem in South Gate. Tacos DF offers your typical Mexican food (tacos and burritos) but also offers traditional flavors like huitlacoche and flor de calabaza. Everything is handmade from their tortillas to their mole. They even have aguas frescas to go along with your meal! Cheap, tasty, and authentic. I definitely recommend a huarache with huitlacoche cheese and chile (basically thick, oblong shaped corn tortilla). You can ask for chile on the sides, and they also have a salsa bar so you can dress up your meal however you like. This place is awesome!! Growing up in South East LA there isn't a shortage of Mexican restaurants, so when you find a good one it is great. I had been driving past this place for quite some time, but decided to give it a try. I don't have any regrets. Parking can be a bit of headache, but they have a low pro lot in the back so if you can find a way to get back there you should be alright lol. The people there are really nice. Me and my girl are Michelada explorers so we always have one especially when it is a new place. It didn't take my breath away, but it was okay. I think it is only $6 so that isn't too bad. The menu has all your standard Mexican dish selections. The pastor here isn't that good so I would say to stay away from that option, but the asada and chicken are pretty good. Most people mention the Huaraches and that is definitely a go to here. The burritos are good and so are the tacos. The quesadillas are phat and will be worth the purchase. This hole in the wall restaurant is pretty awesome. I discovered it years ago after a night of binge drinking. So if you go early mornings on the wkend that's pretty much what you'll find, people nursing a hang over. The huevos con chorizo are always good. Their quesadillas are the best, regardless of what filling you pick. The huaraches are a little tough to eat, they're premade. Those and the desserts are the only things premade though, so expect everything else to be great. They have a pretty informative website so check it out. All the ladies working there are nice as hell. But try to avoid sitting behind the kitchen/bar/register or your server will forget you exist. read more

Came in for lunch time and I was satisfied! 10 stars for having the soccer game on. That's a plus during the World Cup. The place is decorated with soccer stuff. I'm guessing the owner loves soccer just like I do. Anyways I ordered four tacos. I had asada and a pastor. They're pretty small like the original street tacos. They were pretty flavorful. We decided to try something different than the usual tacos so thanks to yelp, I found this place. I ordered Huarache de Pollo (chicken) I asked for chicken breast because I don't like shredded chicken simply because you never know what kind of chicken meat you are getting. This was a huge portion and could not finish it but it definitely satisfied my hunger. Both green and red salsas were spicy just the way I like them. I will be going back to try a different dish. So we get into this "place" (do not know how to call it) because is not a taqueria nor a restaurant, the place is outdated and the decor, I won't get into that. I see the plates, pollo con mole, chile relleno, tortas, quesadillas, thinking, well, it is a restaurant despite the decor. My husband when for the torta which is NOT authentic, not from DF (we are both originally from Mexico City), we do not put lettuce in the tortas (unless is a pambazo) the meat was old and fried in old fried oil, that's what he said. I asked for gordita but both our food was served in white foamy cheap plates and plastic fork and knife (???). I asked for regular cutlery and plate, no, they do not have any. If I go to a taqueria I would expect disposable plates but imagine eating pollo con mole or milanesa (15.90!) on those cheap plates, i did not even try the gordita Prices do Not match the place, the food, the decor, the experience. I found that in the blunder of my hectic Californian lifestyle, I'd taken for granted that vital connection to my past, my ancestors and that rich heritage responsible for wider hips, sepia toned skin and hair so thick and straight it could poke your eye out. Maybe it's because I don't meet the physical stereotypical characteristics of your 'average' Mexican. Or because my own people have a hard time believing I speak Spanish. Whatever the case, I'm grateful for places like Tacos DF that bring a little bit of the Motherland to displaced wannabes like me. I blew off a company meeting to have lunch here with my aunt last month. It's a small, no frills place that seats maybe 40 people max. Both the kitchen and the ordering desk sit in the middle of the establishment with one of the most extensive listings of traditional favorites I've seen in a VERY long time. We're not talking bastardized versions either. Tacos DF is not for the faint of heart, pansies. I went straight for the quesadillas, whose fillings are nestled between a large, oval homemade tortilla. There's a bunch of regular, old fillings like carne asada and chicken. Boring. If you're gonna eat like a Mexican, might as well do it right. Opt instead for Chicharrón Prensado (pressed pork rinds smothered in red chili sauce) or the Flor de Calabaza (squash blossom) variety. But if you're feeling extra adventurous you HAVE to try the Huitlacoche (corn smut). Yeah, you heard me DISEASED CORN. Blended together with the sweetness of tomatoes, yellow corn and a hand full of chopped onions it's own unique taste is like nothing I've ever experienced... and strangely, there was a comforting component too which just confused me all the more. So what if it looks like and has the consistency of tar? Take that Andrew Zimmern. Prices vs. quantity is a bit higher than what I'm used to, though the quality of the food shows. The cheese inside the quesadillas IS authentic 'queso Oaxaca' (aka- The Mexican Mozzarella) and the tortillas are made by hand which gives them a characteristically larger than average size. An 8 inch quesadilla will set you back $4 and change without a drink, as will most items on the menu, excluding individual tacos. To quench that monstrous thirst, try their 'aguas frescas' in a variety of flavors such as tamarind, horchata and hibiscus flower (jamaica) which are also freshly made from un-powdered sources.
