I recently stopped by to give this spot a try and came away feeling that it was just okay. The service was friendly, and the restaurant was clean and well kept, which I always appreciate. One of their selling points is the homemade tortillas, but they weren't really for me. I found them to be a little too thick and slightly undercooked, which affected the overall texture of the tacos. I also felt the meat lacked flavor and didn't stand out compared to other taco spots in the area. I tried both the red and green salsas, and while neither was bad, neither was particularly memorable. They were fine, but nothing that made me want to come back for more. With so many great taco options in Salinas, this place just didn't do enough to separate itself from the competition. While I appreciate the friendly service and clean restaurant, I most likely won't be returning. read more

First time visiting this spot, which has a loyal local following. I just had two street tacos, a pastor and a carnitas. Both were solid, but not my favorite local variants. In both cases I thought the meat was a tad tougher than it should be and the tortillas a tad thicker/heavier than I prefer. Salsas were excellent. Mango agua fresca was so-so. Setting was fine. I wouldn't be opposed to visiting again, but I won't be seeking it out. read more

Went to grab lunch on Friday. Walked in and no one was there, waited a few minutes and a girl comes from the kitchen and rudely asks us "are you guys ready or?...." No greeting, no asking if we needed help, just instantly rude and full of attitude. So we decide we're ready and order with her. She is completely silent while taking our orders and is making it seem like we are bothering her by coming in and ordering. It was very uncomfortable. We sit down and it doesn't take too long to get our food but she just places it on top and doesn't say anything - another customer that walked in after us was nice enough to point out and ask if that was our food. Food was good, we got the asada fries. But the service is lacking and completely rude. Probably won't go back due to the service. read more

I got introduced to this spot by my sister. I personally haven't been inside but my mom has and she hasn't said one bad thing about it. We've been here a few times now! My y sister likes ordering their burritos. I ordered a quesadilla with carnitas and it was a 6/10 . They make their tortillas home made so that was a plus! The second time I came I just ordered a regular quesadilla with cheese! and that was even tasteful! 8/10 I know what you're thinking I could make my own at the house but no I think the tortillas are worth it! I did try the Jamaica with extra ice it was a bit too strong but once it watered down it tasted good! I keep reading the reviews of the shrimp tacos and fish tacos! I ate Don Beto's food as it was catered for an event I was attending and I was really looking forward to trying it after riding by for years. In a town full of really good Mexican food I'm sad to say Don Beto is just average. It wasn't bad, the ingredients were fresh, the flavor was good, it was just sort of bland. In will go to the store and try but, for now, I think there's better food to be found. read more

Hmmm... So, i cannot justify paying $14 (with card, total $ 15.30) for 4 street tacos. I had to get something for lunch but next time, i'd def plan ahead and go somewhere reasonable. Chicken tacos were good, but not worth $14 . The staff was nice and prompt. read more

Gave this spot multiple times to make an impression because everyone in town gasses it up. Tried the asada, carnitas, chorizo, and chile verde and it was all flavorless. Salsa verde is okay, red salsa is weird and not the traditional flavor I'm used to. The disappointing thing about this spot is everything is good except for the meat, would not recommend this spot burrito king is way better if you're in south salinas. read more

Trying for the first time the newest taco shop in my neighborhood just 4 blocks away. The appearance is modern and clean. It has some seating out front for those beautiful Salinas days and six or seven more inside. The menu is smart and well laid out, easy to navigate. Not a bunch of stuff just the basics, tacos of course, burritos and bowls. Service was good enough and the turn around time was about right. Now the food... competition for the public's taco money is fierce in Salinas. Restaurant's, trucks and shops, there's tacos everywhere. These ones are good, we had a carne asada, fish, chicken, shrimp and a el pastor. Sadly not one stood out for us. Last words...who's next? read more

From the taco truck to brick and mortar Tacos Don Beto is definitely deserving of the five stars! We've been meeting the try out this place for a while, and yesterday afternoon me and My Hubby on our lunch breaks decided to meet up and try it out. Usually when it was a very popular taco truck gets its own standalone it rarely hits the same mark as the original however that is not the case for this location. They were amazing, super friendly food was delicious, generous portions and the whole staff was very inviting and super nice everything inside was ridiculously clean which is so appreciated! I had ordered a burrito bowl originally and then when I had realized they had homemade tortillas I asked him to switch however they had already made the bowl but they were gracious enough to give me a tortilla on the side to do my thing with. My Hubby had the surf and turf burrito with carne Asada and shrimp it was absolutely delicious. He even said out loud this might be our new favorite place. I was talking to the young lady before the hubby arrived and we were talking about how everything is made it in-house by hand including their Mexican wedding cookies which were already sold out- sad for me but good for them! I figured they must be delicious and I can't wait to try them. Food: The quality of the meat is really good! I've gone to other restaurants and you can tell the meat isn't fresh. They also added green sauce on the side. The surf carne asada fries are delicious, they also come with shrimp on top! The fish tacos were also good, but unfortunately they weren't my favorite. (They were a bit too crunchy and fried) however, I'm incredibly picky! So you might like them. I'd definitely recommend trying the fries and tacos! 5/5 Cleanliness: This place is clean! The rice & beans were good, the Chile verde tacos / plate was gross so salty , but the handmade tortillas were thick kinda hard to pass, it was like a 5/10, I wouldn't come here again just for the asada fries but me and my party got sick very quick eating right after we felt like a stomach bug, I'm not sure if it's food posioning but it was very bad. read more

Get there early to get the chicharrón filling. They sell out.! Add the cabbage mixture to the taco for a bright flavor. Also, get both red and green salsas. Mix them and be amazed. The red salsa has a hint of smokeyness but it's not over powering. The green is more like an avocado salsa. I told the owner that I fully enjoyed his food and he explained the process and I can appreciate the time and prep he takes to make this cuisine. Every bite was amazing and if you want a new favorite taco spot, here it is. Warning: it ain't cheap but neither is Louis Vuitton.

Last night, we premiered my feature documentary on Tough Mudder and the obstacle racing craze at Rabobank Stadium (http://riseofthesufferfests.com/) After fruitlessly calling around for weeks to find food trucks for our guests, Vicki came through in the clutch. I came here because of the pictures of one review of someone who comes a lot and my favorite bartender Avery at Dubber's told me I would be missing out if I did not try it out. I ordered their barbacoa loaded fries and horchata. I always ask for sautéed onions. Usually what I order and it never disappoints. I've tried all their aguas frescas and enjoy them all. Good service too. It's a very clean place to eat at and they always have good music on. read more
