    Asada tacos
    Jade M.

I was starving before a show, looked up food and this was the only place that popped up nearby. I walked up and there was a small line, I thought, "Why not?" So happy I found this place! The owners were so sweet, the flour tortillas were freshly made and cooked in front of us. They added the queso to the tortilla on the grill, then flipped it over so it got a bit crusty/crunchy ... um I was sold at that moment. Then, they added the meat. It was juicy and flavorful. Not going to lie, I'm a socal native and I think these tacos fall amongst some of the best street tacos I've ever had....In and out of the country.

When I first tried Tacos Duran it was at an uncles party and he hired them to cater. I had four tacos and what they call a mulita and was instantly hooked. My parents and I say these are the best tacos we ever had and are in love with the mulitas so that's why we go to their place where they set up in the street near a truck stop in LA. The tortillas are handmade which makes the food taste extra good. To drink they have agua de pepino and agua de fresa but sometime it varies. There is also this lady who sells empanadas for dessert for a $1 which are also good. The cooks are pretty friendly and hardworking decent people from the looks of it. Everything looks clean too.

Tacos Duran can be missed easily. This taco stand is nestled in between Olympic and McGarry St. It is the equivalent of looking for platform 9 3/4 during the evening rush. That being said, this place is a hidden gem with equally as much magic. Freshly made tortillas mark the beginning of the end of your hunger. The asada, chorizo and Chicken are all grilled fresh daily. She also has Chile's rellenos that are pre-made. My go-to's are the asada and chorizo (don't forget to add cheese to your tacos! Takes it to another lever). The chicken is great too but I've never been much of a poultry guy myself (my girlfriend loves it). After your choice of meat she can hook you up with some fresh beans over your tacos too! Yum! All the salsas are fresh and the cilantro and limes are all diced fresh as they go. Get there early and you might score some amazing Avena (oatmeal drink) or some amazing aguas frescas (they run out fast!!). This place has taken a special seat in my heart. I'm no wizard, but I know magic when I taste it.

It wasn't too many choices and the meat skewers were cooked to perfection. A friend that was with me said that the skewers were better at this market than at the larger Thai markets because they aren't trying to churn out a huge number. Here they take care in making sure the meat is still tender and juicy. All the food reminded me of my childhood. So delicious. I made the mistake of getting a papaya salad with "medium" spice. Thai medium spice levels are very hot for the normal palette. So that was my bad. I ate it all anyway. Did I cry a little? Sure. Was my stomach messed up after? Yeah. Was it worth it? I'd get mild next time. The other friend I was with who straight up eats habanero peppers said it was spicy. When in the area I'll be back!

My favorite and must have is the grilled chicken thighs! The chicken skewers are well marinated, a subtle touch of sweetness. The chicken thighs are tender, and perfectly grilled. The cost is $3 per skewer. Definitely worth a shot. The crepe is a great dessert option. It is $10 for 3 toppings. There are various topping options, fruits, syrups, salty, etc. The crepe is made in front of you. Another great sweet dish option is mango sticky rice. The sticky rice is well flavored with a hint of coconut, but the mango wasn't too fresh. There's no spot for seating, no chairs and no tables. Since it is a night street market, don't have too much expectation on the cleanliness. Bring your own napkins, hand sanitizer, etc. Vendor owners are friendly and welcoming. Zelle is accepted, but cash is more convenient. There's a free parking place in a nearby plaza. Recommend getting a try for some authentic Thai food in town.

The place is Alejandra's, and the creation is some of the best quesadillas you can get in LA. Coming up to the stand, you eye the menu and make your order, $8 dollars each or $10 for a dual topping type. There is potentially a bit of a wait due to every meal being freshly made on order, but it is a good and worthwhile wait, the staff, clientele, and food being most hospitable. At your order, purple dough is flattened to a blue corn tortilla, each tortilla freshly pressed and grilled in front of you. You watch it sizzle and rise brown, flip over, and continue its cycle to grow crisp. Topping highlights for me include squash blossoms and pork, which is chicharrones with a surprising crisp and crunch better than almost any other I've had, the ring of each bite echoing autumn leaves crunching under my feet, its condensed jerky flavour hemorrhaging in the still present sweetness of a meat once juicy. The stand provides a salsa bar with red and green sauces available, and other vegatative essentials- onion, cilantro, and pepper- serve as a lush and fresh forestry for the surprisingly substantial spice of the salsa to lick upon; piled upon the mountain of food and flavour, the green and red splatters evoked the Hollywood Hills, the red salsa smokey and particularly burning like the fires of last year. It's an addicting taste well worth the visit and short walk to sit and enjoy the meal in Echo Park. I'm excited to come back and try more ingredients for sure, very likely two or three quesadillas at a time to help expedite the process, as it can't be helped. 6.4/10

Because it is in Koreatown, we expected more of a Korean or Asian-style night market vibe with themed booths, street-style alleys, and the kind of food atmosphere you usually associate with that part of LA. Instead, it turned out to be a general street-food market with mixed vendors. It was not bad, just very different from what we expected. Most of my family ordered hibachi bowls. The flavor was good, but the meat portions were on the small side. One of my sons got sushi from a different booth. I tried skewers and a baked potato from other vendors. The food was decent overall, but not something that feels worth dealing with LA weekend traffic for. Parking is across the street and can get chaotic, especially if you are not used to downtown LA parking. Between the traffic, the parking situation, and the difference between what social media shows and what the night market actually is, I would call the experience a 3.5. Since Yelp does not allow half stars, I am giving it a 3. If you are already in the area, it is a fun place to walk around and try different things. I just would not go expecting a Korean-style night market experience
