It was my first time here, so I wasn't sure where to go at first, but it's pretty easy to figure out. They have separate lines for tacos, burritos, and aguas frescas, which keeps everything organized and moving smoothly. I went straight for the tacos. I ordered two carne asada, one chorizo, and one al pastor. The condiment setup was also really good. Let me tell you, this hit the spot! I loved the grilled onions, serranos, hot sauce, and especially the curtido de habanero,so good. The carne asada was okay slightly on the tougher side but the chorizo and al pastor were really solid. Avenue 26 has a cult following, and I'm happy to announce I am part of the cult now. I really appreciate that they're open 24/7 every day, so I can visit any hour I'm craving tacos in LA. The first time I went on a weekday in the middle of the day, so it was super empty and not the best because nothing was being made fresh- the meats and potatoes were kind of just sitting in bins so although the flavor was there, the cooled down temperatures really affected the taste. HOWEVER, I visited a few more times after that, these times all late at night, which really turned my experience around. I think at those times there were a lot more people and long lines, so everything was being made fresh and it being hot just made the food taste so so much better. I love how the toppings are all self-serve, and the hot potato is my favorite side. Carne asada, lengua, and al pastor are my go-tos. And i definitely think their salsas are what sealed the deal. They are spicy, so it's something to consider. You also get a free potato with your meal, super random, but also really convenient. Stopped by yesterday and was honestly shocked by the pricing. These used to be $2.25 per taco cash. I got six tacos and my total came out to $32.50. This spot has been on my to-visit list for AGES, and I am SO happy I finally got to visit!!! For $2.25 per taco and an open bar for toppings and condiments, you really get your money's worth. Located in the Arts District under some tents in a large lot, parking here is not concern. Be prepared to eat on the hood of your car, though, as there is no seating, but I think it just adds to the experience. After ordering your taco meats at the grill, there is a section with chiles toreados (roasted, blistered jalapeños or serrano chiles with charred skin), caramelized onions, and boiled potatoes. The potatoes are one per plate, with a 50-cent charge for extra. Although there are some signs reading "cash only," they do take card, just with a fee (our total was $13.50 for 6 tacos with cash, but would've been over $15 via card). After paying, we headed over to the toppings and condiments bar. Here, there were slices of radishes, lime wedges, chopped white onion/cilantro mix, pickled red onions, and three types of salsas along with to-go sauce containers. Between my sister and I, we got three tacos: 2 lengua (tongue), 1 cabeza (head), 2 pastor (shepherd style pork), and 1 asada. The lengua and cabeza were so tender and the pastor and asada were juicy and flavorful. Although the (double!) corn tortillas look small, they do NOT skimp on the meat! The small orange chiles in the pickled red onions were surprisingly spicy, so the crispy radishes and potatoes were perfect to mellow it out. I'd understand why people would want to get more than one potato, as they were the perfect velvety texture. There are napkins and plastic bags (that we used as gloves because of how stacked our tacos were haha) but no utensils as far as I could tell. We also saw different agua fresca and other beverages available. Luckily, it wasn't too busy at noon on a Thursday, but I've heard it gets quite busy late at night! Let's just put it this way: I've driven out here from Anaheim 2 times and would gladly do it again this weekend even though I just went last night.
