Deep fried tacos baby!
Neil G.

Tacos Dorados de Barbacoa... I could just leave it at that as it is exactly the reason why I go to Tacos El Compita! This deep fried deliciousness with all its fresh accoutrements (onions, cilantro, and the red salsa) definitely satisfies my deep fried hungers pangs! The shredded beef inside this deep fried crunchy shell was so flavorful and juicy, combined with fresh diced onions and minced cilantro for a dose of freshness and a drizzle of red salsa - every bite was just a mouthful of deep fried ecstasy LOL I always order four of these babies but I always end up eating only three, these crunchy goodies are generous in size unlike those little tacos you get from the lunch truck, lucky for me I always have a lonely deep fried taco to bring home which magically disappears once it lands on my kitchen counter... Needless to say, I will be back and will get these deliciousness again! Enjoy!

Tacos (hard and soft shell), quesadilla with shredded beef

I see why there are queues for this truck while the others in the neighborhood have no queues. This was the best taco truck I've visited since coming to LA. I got the hard shell and soft shell tacos with shredded beef and this meat was melt in the mouth tender and packed with flavor. The salsas are homemade and had a great zing to contrast. I also got a mini quesadilla with shredded beef and this was just as good with melty cheese. The final item I got (yes I ate far too much lol) was their shredded beef burrito and it was huge. Everything worked so well and I highly recommend this truck!!

Best tacos de barbacoa ~~~~ been coming here since I was a kid and tastes the same as ever!

Barbacoa taco in both hard and soft shells (Before toppings)

Most reviewers rave about the Tacos Dorados de Barbacoa (Hard-shell, fried beef tacos) which are pretty good. I would suggest you pack them with cilantro, onions, and their red salsa to truly bring out the flavor of the wonderful beef. But hold on a second. I saw someone order the Barbacoa in a soft shell taco and they gave you way more beef than the hard shell. So yes, I ordered it in the soft shell and I think this is the star of the menu, contrary to most reviewers. That beef is so flavorful and tender. Topping it with those ingredients I noted above makes the taco perfecto! So from here on out, I'm ordering the soft-shell barbacoa tacos only. More beef, better experience, and they are the same price as the hard-shell. I have also tried their carne asada soft-shell tacos and they have some pretty decent asada. They were taste. (yes, "TASTE"-that's my word) The location: Yes, it's a smaller kitchen/trailer sitting on a side walk on Hooper, right across from the Smart-n-Final store in DTLA. No place to sit but sometimes you can squeeze into a space on the stainless steel trailer counter. All this contributes to a true street-taco experience. Do yourself a favor and head down there and try both hard and soft shell barbacoa tacos and you decide what is best. It will be $1.65 well-spent. Oh yeah, service is pretty quick. Don't be fooled by the long lines, they get you in and out in a reasonable time frame.

Dorados all the way!! Only place I eat fried tacos. Always a line when I come here but worth the wait. Only tried the dorados (fried tacos with shredded beef). They have two sauces green & red. I usually drench the tacos in red sauce and pack it with extra onions & cilantro. They close early and get sold out by the afternoon. They are affordable and very tasty. Always eat minimum 3 when I go there. Street parking or can park at smart & final and buy something.

I wanted to order all the things but I exercised some restraint and just ordered the CARAMELO ($8.75 - Flour tortilla, pinto beans, Monterey Jack cheese, avocado salsa, salsa roja, avocado, cabbage.). I picked chorizo as my protein option. I also, of course, had to also add the smoky grilled poblano chile for $1.25. It was SO good and FLAVORFUL - it didn't even need the salsas. Although, I will note that both the salsas were lovely. The flour tortilla was clearly freshly made. Also, it was a massive portion. I don't know what I was expecting. If this is the size of their caramelo, I don't want to know how giant the burrito is. I also had to get the cucumber agua fresca to pair with my caramelo. It was perfectly sweetened and wonderfully refreshing. I'll have to make my way back here now to try the burrito 2.0 and chivichanga.

I came here for dinner on a week night and my experience here was pretty good. I had the asada and al pastor tacos with all the toppings and they were both so good and full of meat and heat. The toppings can be spicy for some, so be warned. My favorite of the two was the all pastor which was flavorful and I did like the thinly shaved meat. It was not dry at all and was fresh. I also tried the mulita with al pastor meat and that was also soso good. Cheesy, meaty, and indulgent. The additional topping section had good variety with pickled onions, cucumbers, etc. and everything seemed pretty fresh. Unfortunately, they were pretty much out of the roasted pepper and grilled onions at the time I went. To drink, I had the horchata and that was also very delicious. It was huge, sweet, and creamy. I also loved how it was not grainy at all. A good pairing with the rich foods. They also have a good amount of seating at the stand with a long table and multiple chairs. Parking is tricky since its street parking only.

The portions are *very* generous, and they had the usual sides readily available on the side: lemons, cucumbers, sliced radish, grilled onions and peppers, etc. Also had a bite of their corn quesadilla... the tortilla was soooo good. They had the masa on the side and were making the tortillas fresh and by hand. Yum. Payment: - They take Apple pay! :) Parking: - We found street parking nearby thankfully, but it might be hard to find in general due to the area. Seating: - They have seating to the left of their grill (tables, folding chairs, a tarp overhead). Depending on the time of day, sometimes the shade doesn't quite cover your face--the sun was setting and hitting us right in the eyes, so we switched sides to sit facing away from the sun once those seats were available.

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

The tostada was very hard and chewy thought I was going to brake a tooth. Asada meat and guacamole on the tostada had no salt. They have real Al Pastor on the trompo (the spit) so of course I ordered pastor tacos and a pastor mulita. I also ordered a few SUADERO tacos which you don't find just anywhere. I am still raving about the amount of meat and flavor of the food here, it's insanely delicious. Once you get your food you make your way down to the end of the taco stand where you are met with an amazing array of fresh taco fixings and salsas. Also, make sure you ask them for pineapples since they did not include it until we asked. They do have them sliced up in a container by the meats.
