Short lines, great service, and fast cooks. Came here for lunch before a session. I ordered the Chimichanga with Carne Asada and everything on it. The Chimichanga was pretty big, well made, and really yummy. The carne asada was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and cut in bite size pieces. The exterior of the Chimichanga was crispy and flakey. The onions and cilantro added good flavor and crunch to the Chimichanga. The pico de gallo was refreshing. And the presentation of the dish was nice! Yum! My friend suggested the restaurant since it was hard to find a Mexican restaurant open late and serving authentic Mexican food. We ordered first and they had the menu with pictures so it was really helpful to order and then we sat down. A server came to our table and served us free chips and salsa. This was very popular since it was karaoke night and patrons mostly families sat ate and enjoyed their time. I chose the wet burrito with carne asada and verde sauce while my friend chose the meaty fries. The plates were so huge but it was a long day for us and we had not eaten so we were almost done. I've been looking for a place that reminds me of the gas station tacos in LA (compliment, not a bad thing!), and this is the one of the only places in the bay that passed that bar for me. The prices are fair, the selection is great, and the tacos are really bomb. My favorite is definitely the al pastor, but their other meats are also solid. I tried the quesadilla here too, but that was a bit too heavy in my opinion. I would definitely just stick to just the tacos next time. This one isn't nearly as popular and it's quite a bit smaller but that didn't prevent it from being a full house nonetheless. It was bring your kids for tacos day or something because my co-worker and I were surrounded by kids and their families. I got six tacos, one of pretty everything, except pollo: Lengua Cabeza Carnitas Asada Tripitas Pastor The standouts were the asada and lengua with all the others being above average. My co-worker said the chicken was the weakest and we both agreed asada was the key here. In fact when you watch the grill guy he has about five lbs of asada cooking constantly. A definite hole in the wall Mexican gem in Redwood City! There's several El Grusellense in the neighborhood, so make sure you go to the right one. I loved the carnita, asada, pastor and tripe! So a good friend of mine recommended me to try some bomb tacos from El Grullense located in Redwood City. If you are familiar with Mexican food in Redwood City then you would know that there are a plethora of Mexican restaurants with El Grullense as part of their name. My friend who is Mexican and a native of Redwood City told me that this is the spot. I would have to agree with him. First of all, each food item I have had from this place is unique. I have never had a quesadilla or sopes quite like the ones I have had from here. It's hard to explain, you would just have to try them for yourself. If you order food from this place you better order yourself an horchata or one of their drinks because everything here is spicy. I usually am the one making sure they have added the green and red salsa to my orders when ordering food from a Mexican restaurant, but you honestly don't need extra salsa unless you can really handle the heat. As you can see from the pictures they add tons of salsa but that is another additive that makes this food unique. Heard wonderful things about this place but for my experience driving from Half Moon Bay, Placed my order through the phone I get there pick it up drive back to town thinking my order is correct and it's WRONG. My kids upset crying they didn't get what they asked for. Second time again placed 7 plates of tacos one torta , again missing items two missing plates and the torta. Reason for the bad review is the horrible service. I am an English speaker and am trying very hard to learn Spanish and one way I've been doing so is ordering in Spanish at local Mexican restaurants. I've been told many times that it's considered respectful and that a lot of workers always appreciate willingness to learn their native language. After we left the place, my friend who speaks Spanish told me that the two women behind the register were talking a lot of smack about me and making fun of both my Spanish and other personal things. When I was rung up, they were very nice, but obviously it's all a sham. I feel like they forgot that plenty of people in the Bay Area speak Spanish.
