I ordered the asada tacos which were $2 each on Mondays- Fridays from 2-6pm. The deal was good but these tacos weren't my favorite. There could have been more seasoning and the spicy salsa I ordered wasn't spicy. The asada itself was a little dry as well. I think for the price it is on par with what was expected. This was my first time ordering from here. I ordered tacos de cabeza and a rwg burrito. The tacos arrived cold.... and since they were just in a plate they got all over the place. I had to put them together as a taco again. Im not sure if this was careless part of the dasher or the restaurant. The burrito was dry. I didn't have the onion or cilantro. It was full of beans and towards the end it was rice and some meat in between. Not sure if the food is better in the shop. One of my best taco truck experience ever! I was getting my car serviced a block away and saw a small line forming around 11:30am. Tacos was $1.75 each (as of Oct 2019) and I decided to try the Al Pastor. Food came out quickly and was piping hot. The corn tortillas were one of my the best I ever had. Not too oily and had the perfect amount of texture. The Al Pastor meat was equally as enjoyable. They grill the tortillas very nicely and meats of pastor, tripa and lengua are excellent. There's a bit of a gaggle of people and what seems to be the scruffy El Grullo taco truck dog to boot. Out of the many great taco trucks and taquerias found in Redwood City, CA; El Grullo is definitely my favorite. Their spicy red sauce is to die for (or at least worth stopping by on your lunch break.) The red sauce has a kick, but the burn is more of a savory aroma of spices that lingers in your mouth long after you're done eating. I usually get the chicken or carne asada tacos. With the asking price at a dollar flat, taco truck dining doesn't get much better than at Tacos El Grullo. read more

4 star for the price, 3 star for the food, and then rounded down for my psyche. I found this truck in front of the "Tacos El Grullo" building. I'm not sure if the restaurant is still working or if it is defunct. Either way, hey, taco truck, why not. I got a couple different meats just to try, and I think the carnitas is the best. I even like it more than the carnitas at my fav truck. However, the veggies they included with the tacos are a bit lacking...they're mostly tasteless. The whole place feels a little bit shady, which is why I had to round the score down. It's not like I don't go to taco trucks -- I have a couple favourites in the area, but a truck without any menu out front, and parked in the middle of shady Redwood City...just makes me a wee bit uncomfortable. read more

Once in a great while my overwhelming foodie curiosity overrides my pescetarian sensibilities, like that time I shocked my boyfriend by trying steak tartare (it looked good and I'd never had it before!). So, my lunch a few days ago? Three chicken tacos, $1 each. (I shelled out an extra $0.50 to get a helping of beans on two of them.) Amazing amazing flavors: deep/mellow spiciness, just enough salt and grease to give the tacos full flavor, raw onion and cilantro to balance out the richness, and a good base of perfectly griddled corn tortillas (double layer). $3.50 for a filling lunch. If you're a fancy "gourmet" food truck owner who would charge $9 for something similar, you should be ashamed of yourself. If you're a meat-eater, this is a fantastic truck to get a meal from, and for under $5! Pretty awesome if you ask me. (P.S. Yes, I really did eat chicken for the first time in ages. Somehow the El Grullo truck manages to keep its tacos priced at $1 while maintaining a consistently higher quality of meat than pretty much anywhere else around, restaurants included. "Con todo" at El Grullo is a nice mix of salsas, chopped raw onion, and a couple grilled onions. Tacos El Grullo (Jal.) is a roach coach frequently parked on S. El Camino Real between I-380 and Bayhill Drive. The tacos are good, but small, and cost $1. I've tried the carne asada and pollo meats, both of which where tasty. Colleagues have indicated that the burritos taste good but develop a nasty plug of grease at the bottom. I was working off-site and grabbed some tacos from the El Grullo truck for a quick lunch. I saw other people walking away with paper plates full of tacos with frijoles on them but alas, my tacos de pollo were bean free. I would definitely ask to upgrade next time. I was somewhat amazed that the tacos were still going for $1 a piece here as the going rate in SF has risen over the years. My chicken tacos came with the standard double layer of small corn tortillas topped with chopped chicken that was somewhere between pollo asado and regular shredded chicken and a sprinkling of raw onion and cilantro. This truck is by far one of the better of the places to go to in Redwood City. The tacos taste fresh and not overly oily. Ask for the cooked onions to really make the taco shine. I usually get the pastor every time and the meat to salsa ratio is just right. If you have the chance to eat at the benches right next to the truck to eat while hot. This is the worst taco truck I have ever been to. My husband loves this taco truck because he loves their tortas so one day, I went there to get him some of his favorite tortas and I asked for a carne asada and shrimp burrito. It was very hard to communicate with the two ladies that worked there because they did not speak any English. I get home, about 12 blocks away and I am starving might I add; I bite into the burrito and it is falling apart, not wrapped tightly at all. I keep eating, eating waiting to get to the shrimp and then I see little calamari looking things. I decided to let it go and just eat it. I think it was beef tongue or whatever. All of a sudden, my husband tells me there is no sour cream in both his tortas! He immediately tells me to go back and I of course do because they messed up on all three items! I first go there telling them there is no sour cream in the tortas and thank goodness for a customer there ordering who was able to translate for me. Both defensive, aggressive ladies tell me that there is a special today making tortas $2 each. That is not a special! How do you sell something as a special and it is not even the same??? So she charges me an extra 50 cents to add sour cream to both. I then proceed to return my burrito. She tells me I ate half already. Yes, because I was waiting to get to the shrimp. She hands me $5! The burrito was $8. She then hands me another dollar. WTF?! I get my calculator out and start asking how much everything was to find out, they had over charged me by 50 cents to begin with. I paid $15 and when everything was calculated at that time, the total was only $14.50!! She hands me another $1.50. I am not going to cry over 50 cents so I took it and left. My friend Lindol thinks this is the holy grail of tacos. He LOVES this place and compares every other taco place to this one. The food is pretty epic, but I am not sure I would go as far to say that these are the holy grail. I have eaten a lot of tacos in my day and limiting one place as the favorite just isn't my style.
