Sadly, this was our family's first taco experience when we moved to Oregon last year, the most recent experience will be our last. Reasonably priced and tasty, I overlook the typically hostile glare from the cook. (Side note: if a restaurant features an open kitchen, the back-house staff is required to behave like front-house staff, friendly, maybe a smile). But trying to pass off tripe as carnitas is about as insulting as it gets. Unfortunately, I did not look until I was 30 minutes away in McMinnville but nevertheless, even my Asian wife immediately knew it was tripe. And before anyone feels I got the wrong order, there was one other couple in there already eating. Carnitas, not tripe. My family and i will be spending our money elsewhere. We have found far more authentic alternatives with staff who at least pretend to appreciate our business. Good luck. read more

This authentic Mexican restaurant located in Sherwood definitely has some good choice options. The meat comes out and tastes really juicy and very good and the guacamole is a killer. The inside has ample seating and they even have some outdoor seating for the nicer days. The staff was nice and the food took ~10 minutes or less to come out. You know what makes food taste bad. Deception, chicanery, skullduggery! I ordered a few tacos which say 2.75 which I can totally live paying for a taco. But the math wasn't mathing. Every one had a different additional charge to it. So now it's 3.25-3.50. It literally affects the taste buds. The birria was kind of bland. However if I knew I would be up charged I would have just gotten the quesa birria. The carnitas was good. A little greasy but I appreciate the different pieces of fat and skin. Made it more flavorful than the average carnitas. The pastor was some of the best I've had around (but that's not saying too much) very pronounced taste of pineapple. The namesake taco el patron is pretty good. The meat is a little bland and inconsistently textured but I like all the accoutrements. I like the salty cheese in the bottom. The house made tortilla was ok. Price a little steep but it's 2025. Overall I wasn't pleased with the menu pricing but the food was ok. I could be convinced to try again. read more

The best tacos my GF and I have ever had. The tortilla on the street tacos were amazing. Only one per taco because they were thick enough to support the filling. Each taco was also so full of meat it was impossible to keep it all in. The price seemed a smidge high until we actually tasted the food. The meats were so well seasoned it tasted like something you would get at an upscale restaurant. The restaurant itself is surprisingly nice for a strip mall style setting. The decor has a nice neon vibe that seems to try and capture the vibe of a food truck. We ducked into El Patrone for a quick bite to ward off hunger on our way to the coast. He had a Baja taco and I had Tacos de Camaron. They were on the small side and didn't look like much but they were amazing! There was a lot of flavor packed into that little package! It tasted very authentic and was fresh and flavorful! He said it was the best da__ taco he ever had and I was equally impressed! This restaurant has a Sherwood fast food vibe with prices that match the City of Sherwood's yuppie clientele. But make no mistake about it, this is an awesome taqueria with real deal Mexican food. Street tacos are supposed to be small, at $2.75 they are priced decently but gone in two bites. You'll have to eat a ton of them to get full. The breakfast burrito was delicious, seasoned perfectly, with everything mixed together in a flavor explosion. The tortilla was also properly grilled. My only complaint is at $12.00 it's really too small. If you go to any other local taqueria you'll get more food at a better value. The salsas here are also excellent. When Joe's Burgers opened at this location, I was disappointed because Sherwood had -- still has -- enough burgers. But I changed my mind because, while Sherwood had a lot of burgers, most weren't -- still aren't -- very good. Joe's burgers were great. So, I was disappointed to see Joe's close this location. When I found out that the new restaurant in this location would be offering tacos and burritos, I was disappointed. Sherwood already has too many tacos and burritos. But, now that I've had Tacos El Patron a few times, I'm changing my mind. Sherwood has a lot of tacos and burritos and most of them are mediocre at best. But this places offers flavorful, delicious food. The location is in a strip mall anchored by Safeway. There's plenty of parking and access is easy from 99W or Tualatin-Sherwood Road. I have two complaints: the chairs are seriously uncomfortable and the place is very noisy. The kitchen is open to the dining room (what there is of it) and the equipment is constantly loud. It's hard to talk to the someone else at the same table. Vegetarian options are limited. Vegan? That will depend on just how much you trust such a small kitchen to avoid cross-contamination... probably no. This place is no-service, fast-food style. You order standing at the counter, you find your own table and clean it off if necessary, you get your own drinks, you wait for your number to be called and then fetch your food and bring it to your table, then clean up and bus up after yourself when your done. And yet they have the audacity to suggest a 20% tip on the bill! Tip is for service. Making the food is part of the price of the food. No service equals no tip; sorry. But, let me reiterate: the food is great. read more
