I would like to consider myself a huge advocate for Mediterranean food and this place is pretty good! I got a chicken shawarma plate. Comes with their halal chicken, basmati rice, hummus (I think it's made in house), and a green salad with their tangy, citrus, vinegar sauce. The chicken and rice is very moist. The salad looked sad and not appetizing, I didn't even eat it and I HATE wasting food. My pita bread came inside a "PITA DOUX" package; as if it was purchased from a store and left in the bag it was purchased from. This place was a hidden gem in Duarte, they give plenty of Mediterranean food. It's enough for sharing, we ordered a chicken and beef kabobs. The meat was moist and tender. Which was the highlight of it all. You can't go wrong eating great food in this place. The only down fall is I wish they had drink fountains. Nothing but a nice cup with ice and a drink. I would've given this place five stars if it weren't for their questionable policy about not allowing customers to eat in the dining area. I arrived close to 7 p.m., and by the time I ordered, it was maybe a few minutes past. Since they close at 8, I figured I had plenty of time to sit and enjoy my meal. However, after placing my order, I was told the dining room was closed and I wouldn't be allowed to dine in. What made it more frustrating was that there was a couple already sitting in the dining area who were served their food around the same time I got mine. So if I'd been allowed to sit, I would've finished eating around the same time as they did. Strange rules aside, the food was really good. This is by far the best Mediterranean food I've had -- and I'm super picky when it comes to Mediterranean cuisine, so that says a lot! I went in with my brother during lunchtime. I ordered the Chicken Kebab plate and he got the Chicken and Beef Kebab combo. The portions were generous -- we even had leftovers to take home. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. We dined in, and the service was great. The lady who took our order was friendly and even brought the food to our table when it was ready. They offer a good variety of bottled drinks, including some in glass bottles, which is a nice touch. The space is clean and comfortable with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They had sports on the TV while we were there, which added to the relaxed vibe. My only regret? Not getting the baklava! It looked amazing, but I was too full. Very authentic Mediterranean spot! I had the falafel plate and a side of dolmas. The dolmas had an interesting tomato twist that I wasn't the biggest fan of but I respect it (to be fair I have no idea the traditional recipes this comment is purely based on my personal experience). I came here on a Tuesday afternoon during work and ordered a beef and chicken combo plate. The order took about 25 minutes to come out. I wasn't particularly happy about that. The food itself was plentiful! I really enjoyed the hummus and salad it came with. The meat was really tender! I couldn't finish it all but you could probably share a combo with two people. The first time I came to Janet's, the food came out slow. This time we ordered online through their website for pick-up. If you want to save time, I recommend ordering online. The combo for 2 is $33.99. Although pricy and on par with other Mediterranean restaurants' combo meals in the area, the portions are decent sized. It comes with marinated filet mignon, chicken breast, and beef lule. It comes with rice, salad side, 4 pita breads, 2 portions of hummus, salad dressing, garlic sauce (similar to toum). Critiques: - The online menu ordering system didn't make it clear that it came with the sides. I ordered an extra side of hummus, not knowing it already came with hummus. - The hummus wasn't the best. It tasted beans only. I couldn't taste a depth of expected flavors, such as aromatic tahini, spiciness from garlic, and sourness from lemon juice. Service: - It was normal. I came into the restaurant and the folks working in the kitchen handed the order over. - I did not feel comfortable asking for water, as I felt judged given that I had ordered in advance. It took a while to receive the water. The first time I came, I brought my own water bottle. I saw that many other tables bought drinks and did not receive water. - The lady behind the counter came off as rude. She spoke in another language in a gossip-like manner, assuming that customers wouldn't understand what she's expressing. - The workers aren't the most enthusiastic. It's not the type of restaurant where, when I leave, I can say goodbye to them. While cleaning the tables, I see they are multi-tasking by being on phone calls via AirPods.
