Stopped by for a quick lunch. The establishment is small with only a few tables inside, so it can get crowded -- especially during lunch hour. Service is fast though, and the ladies working at the cash register are friendly! My order included fish and asada tacos. The fish tacos were well dressed with all of the usual toppings, but the fish itself were borderline soggy and definitely could've been crispier. The asada tacos were generously filled with meat and pico. Although I wasn't too fond of the flavor of the asada. It tasted more smokey and grilled than anything else. Ahh, you nouveau Sierra Madre, with your yesteryear recollections of Taco Fiesta :) let's be clear-- what made this property memorable was that it was once a Kentucky Fried Chicken (yep, before their KFC iteration)... and at one point, the only franchise chain store in the whole city. There are seats for 20 inside, and 20 outside on the "patio" that shares enjoys an invisible border with the sidewalk, and features colorful wicker chairs and table umbrellas. The dining room is small-- so small that upon entering, I stood in "line" behind a woman for 30 seconds before another guy asked her if she was in line... when she said no, I said "I am, friend"-- and he looked at me and got in front of me anyway. Oh well. The situation wasn't helped by the customer in front of all of us who was really struggling with ordering or paying or both. Bless his heart, I suppose. Once I got up to the register I ordered the Asada burrito and two fish tacos. $10 and change... not bad for Sierra Madre I suppose. Since there is nowhere to wait I sort of stood near the trash can in the corner. Surprisingly my order was up quickly, but not quick enough to keep Heart Blessing from grabbing my bag and taking a step for the door. We got him straightened out to wait it out, I took my food to the truck, and cranked the A/C. Too hot to eat outside. No salsas, hot sauce, or napkins in the bag. To go means "I'm not eating this here, so by the time I discover you didn't give me any napkins, I won't be here to correct it; I'll be there, wishing. Had a napkin. My styrofoam burger container held the two fish tacos-- kind of a kimchee fermented cabbage smell coming off this. Not clear if it was intentional. The tacos were pretty good,, and the salsa had a little kick. Could have used more. Fish was fried but something was fusioney about this. Those reviewers calling these authentic? You need a trip to San Felipe, B.C. maybe. My asada burrito was also tasty, but like others, I got snookered by the picture of the "Asada Burrito" on the window, and the rice and bean burrito with a little meat in it that was in my bag. Upon further review of the menu, it seems they offer an all meat burrito as well... which means either (1) get a new poster, (2) get rid of the poster, or (3) ask the customer if you insist on the misleading advertisement. Went here tonight for the first time. Ordered 3 carne asada hard shell tacos, but cashier charged me for 4. The food tasted somewhat ok, but my tacos were soggy.. kinda disappointing. You do get a lot of meat, but it tasted kinda salty, and not like traditional carne asada. Also, there were flies everywhere and the toppings in the buffet bar (limes, onions, and jalapenos) were uncovered. This kinda made me question the cleanliness of this place. This is definitely not the worst place I've eaten at, but it's far from great. I most likely won't be back. There's too many other better options nearby. We ordered take out and all was good until I bit into my burrito and realized THERE WAS A ROACH INSIDE. I love this Tacos Ensanada location. The food is good, and the staff is helpful and courteous. Really great combination! I recommend the bean and cheese burrito which is excellent. I am not as enthusiastic about the ceviche, but check out the potato taco! Best deals are on Taco Tuesday where the tacos are fried fish, and Thursday which is meat tacos specials. Heard about the $0.99 Tuesday fish tacos and decided to give them a try! The tacos were good, but smaller than I thought. A TAD BIT spicy as well. The taco place was MUCH smaller than I expected. You WILL feel cramped. It gets VERY busy on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon because of their special deals. On these days, the line wraps inside the entire restaurant and even goes out the door. If you think this is a problem, don't you worry! The line moves VERY fast. There are seats indoors and outdoors, but it's kind of hard to find any available ones. Also, just be aware of the dirty tables.
