Tacos Gavilan is hands down only the best. The food was absolutely amazing. The burrito was moist, packed with flavor, and cooked perfectly. I asked for salsa verde and roja, and wow... it made it even juicier and took it to another level. The salsas taste authentic and perfect, and I love that they are not stingy at all with salsas or condiments from the salad bar -- that alone is top-notch service. Plus, the complimentary grilled onions with peppers and beans are such a great touch and make the meal even better. The aguas frescas are some of the best I've had -- not too sweet, just the perfect balance of flavor. And the cherry on top... the champurrado. Hands down the best champurrado I've ever had anywhere. Truly authentic, rich, and comforting. Please never change that recipe -- it's perfect just the way it is. On top of all that, the place is always so nice and clean, cleaned to perfection, and the bathrooms are consistently well maintained, which really says a lot. I love this place. I flew down to California to visit my daughter, we went to this restaurant and I ordered the super nachos with 3 extra tortilla chips and they only gave me 2 extra. Me and my daughter also ordered the horchata but I asked for light ice and there was way too much ice. There was even too many chunks of cinnamon and it was just too chalky. The customer service was absolutely awful. I waited 15 minutes just to get 2 plates of food. This service was terribly disappointing and slow. I went to lunch here with a colleague who highly recommended this place for Mexican style Street tacos. I wasn't disappointed. First. The lady that served us was kind, and she explained the combos and the drinks as well. I got some chicken tacos with rice and beans, and the salsa says that were extremely delicious. I really did feel like I was in Mexico, eating their tacos, which is probably one of the highest compliments you can get from a taco place in Los Angeles. I will definitely be going there again. This time it was a great disappointment! I ordered a three asada taco plate for my 3 year old grandson, I ordered a carnitas torta and both meats were very dry to the point that my grandson spit it out. I have never seen carnitas in a 1/2 inch cubit pieces and tasteless. The customer service is great very nice, respectful and fast. I always drive-thru. Note: it will be helpful that the managers regularly taste the food that way they can tell is dry, tasteless and for the price of the items the servings of meat are very small. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place....they have a bar where you can get packaged condiments like onions and cilantro, sauces, etc. They also have self serve grilled onions and beans. I also enjoyed how the horchata and other drinks were on the outside and can get free refills. The food was also pretty good too! read more

First of all the service here needs improvement. The employees are so rude. I came to pick up a food delivery order. I always treat the restaurant employees like my co workers but they were so rude to me. I asked for a small cup of ice since it's been hot and they didn't give me one. The service was fast and my food was ready in minutes. I like that they have all the fixings on the side, you can put as much or as little salsa verde, onions, and cilantro as you want. You can grab as many lemons and so further. I ordered two Carnitas tacos and two pastor tacos. I liked the carnitas better. They were more flavorful. The tacos weren't as greasy as some places. It's not the best place to get tacos, I have had much better tacos. But if you want something quick, it's a go to. I also had the Pina Aqua Fresca, not a fan. The fast food workers sound like they don't even want to be at work and are just so serious and seem unhappy at the drive thru. I've eaten here quite a few times pre-pandemic. It's very good for Mexican fast-food. I usually have a couple meat tacos. They're made fresh and quickly. Always good. This our first time this Tacos El Gavilan in South Gate,we been to other Tacos El Gavilan in Downey. Both restaurants are big and can hold up to large amount of people when it gets really busy. When we arrive at the restaurant it was pack of people enjoy their food and the line was busy but it was going fast we got in line and look at the menu and decided what order. My wife order a carne asada sope and carne asada torta and I got a Al pastor plate. It took couple of minutes get are meal ready everything at the restaurant is scratch made and made to order. I pick up our meal I couldn't to taste my Al Pastor. When I open the container I was surprise my meal have big portion of Al Pastor and also comes with rice and beans on top of the Al Pastor have lettuce tomato cheese and plus come your choice of tortilla or flour tortilla. The Al Pastor is amazing good lots of flavors I put squeeze little bit lime juice it meat more favorable. The rice is really good and beans wow good with spread Mexican cheese that make my taste bring back old memories in Mexico. I also like the super burrito but I never finish it so I get tacos or mulitas. The champurrado is also really good.
