What a gem! We came on a Sunday morning before 10:30 am. This place was delicious! We started with chips and guacamole, and the guacamole was chunky but creamy. For the meals, I had a cheese enchilada plate and the rest of my family had beef hard tacos and a plate of assorted soft tacos (carnitas, carne asada, and al pastor). The service was prompt, courteous and the people were so friendly and accommodating. I can't believe we pass this place several times a week and never had time to stop in. So glad we did today! I had tried bites of their tacos that my husband had brought home and had heard great things about them so it was about time I actually went. My husband and I went in for breakfast today. It's a small little shop on a busy corner. The restaurant is squeaky clean and the staff are SUPER friendly. I ordered the chorizo and eggs plate for $5.99. They brewed up some fresh coffee for me too. My breakfast was soooooo good. The chorizo wasn't the least bit greasy and the meal was huge. Service was great and my coffee was refilled several times. A friend and I were visiting and spied Tacos Gonzalez. It's in a small strip mall, so easy to miss. You don't want to miss out on their tacos. So tasty! We started with a carne asada and carnitas taco apiece. At $1.69 a piece, they are a steal! We then ordered two tongue tacos which are $1.89 a piece. Those were also very tasty. I continue to visit Tacos Gonzalez and I am still impressed. You might find slightly better individual tacos at other places, but you will not find a place that does all their taco fillings as well as Tacos Gonzalez does. Their chorizo for breakfast is a great and affordable way to start the day. In addition to that we used them to cater a party for the staff at a local school and they did a great job. I like to take fellow Yelper suggestions and scope out new places to eat. I found this spot and knew exactly where they were since I frequented the carniceria next door, but never thought anything of them. I'm so ashamed that I didn't give them a chance sooner!! This place has some of the best Mexican food I've had out here. The tacos de lengua were on point and made some other restaurants look terrible in comparison! The rice and beans had a lot of flavor for being just sides. I actually didn't mind eating the rice and beans here. They offer Chavelas here and they are definitely among the Top 20 of the valley. It's a small, hidden gem, but one that won't disappoint you. They had a TV in the corner as well. You just walk in, take a seat, grab a menu and wait to be assisted by a server. Friendly service here and authentic! The only negative is the pricing here for their portion sizes. I didn't see if they had Taco Tuesdays here or any special hours, so that's the only negative I have. Overall 4 stars because of the higher pricing for tacos compared to the other restaurants. Not a bad taco shop. Living in San Diego, and visiting my brother in La Quinta I was wanting some TJ style tacos. Didn't have any hopes since SD is loaded with TJ tacos shops especially the famous Tacos El Gordo. Tried this place and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered a couple of Carne Asada tacos and a couple of Al Pastor tacos. The tacos where almost as good as TEG in SD but the restaurant does not have that authentic taco shop feel.. I enjoyed the tacos so I ordered more to go. The only bad thing is that if you want to just eat a bunch of tacos you have to be seated and waited on. Real TJ style taco shops you stand in the line of the kind of taco you want, order a bunch and then sit down and eat without being waited on. Price is a little steep for the tacos. They should be about $1.50 each since there is no guacamole on the tacos. read more
