Okay, by far this is my favorite taco joint. After two taco tours I still feel that this place is the best. We decided to be brave and give one of their burritos a try. Like everything else, it isn't about quantity, but quality. It was a little on the smaller side, but we couldn't commit entirely and had some tacos to go with. Anywho our semi-bravery was rewarded and it was really good. The beans have a nice flavor, and you can never go wrong with carnitas at this place. I also neglected to mention the desserts. The Arroz Con Leche is the best I've had at a restaurant and about $3 to boot. The multi-colored jello, is all right but it doesn't have a ton of flavor or sugar. My mom's fav is the Tres Leche Cake. It's a tad on the sweet side for me, but still good. The cake is pretty airy, the frosting even lighter, and the bottom is soaked in sweetened condensed milk. read more

Not only does my 25-year-old self love tacos junior, but the 7-year-old me hiding inside is positively elated. While you are munching on your delicious and cheap tacos, you can look at murals of mermaids petting unicorns or drool over a special fruit and dessert menu that is so eye-catching it may as well be bedazzled. Service is fast and the food is wonderful. Like the crowd, I think the tacos al pastor are pretty good, though the carnita tacos needed an extra heap of salsa to give it some flavor. I wish they had more selections of salsa though. The restaurant is brightly lit and very clean. I have to concur with the other reviewers on Yelp that Tacos Junior has the best tacos al pastor anywhere. I eat the same pork preparation on sopes. And honestly, the chicken mole enchiladas are the best I've ever had: a dark, complex nutty brown sauce with just enough sweetness and a little kick. It's so damn good that I always want a second order. The best part of the place is the fresh fruit bar, where I normally get strawberries with sweetened creme fraiche. But you can also get a good flan and some fresh fruit juice drinks as well. Great cappers to a good mole meal. And you gavachos, don't worry. Plenty of English speakers here. read more

Walking in here is like being in Mexico City. Vibrant colors, only Spanish spoken, the menu is Spanish only, children running and laughing, cane sugar Coca Cola. The food is authentic and hand made, even the tortillas. I had an amazing carne dish on a thick corn tortilla, astonishingly fresh and delicious. Oh Tacos Junior, I was so hopeful... The 4 taco plate was $7.00, we each got a water which was a $1 each and then a side of rice & beans. The Al Pastor tacos really are delicious, people weren't kidding about that. The carnitas taco was really good too. However, the carne asada taco was really fatty and not very flavorful. We also got a side of rice and beans... kind of wish we hadn't. The rice was pretty good flavor-wise, although kind of crispy and clearly a bit overcooked, but hey, maybe it was a bad day. However, those beans were downright awful. They looked okay, but as soon as my taste buds touched them I felt sick. They had this strong burnt icky flavor. So I didn't touch them again, just stuck with the tacos from then on. Also, I wish they had the prices posted somewhere other than a tiny menu by the register. I love authentic steak tacos and this place has amazing Mexican food and fruit drinks. The Mango juice $4.00 which is freshly made there is so good! I ordered 4 Taco plate for $7.00 and My friend ordered the Tostada plate. We ended up switching up a taco for a tostada. So, I ended up with 2 Steak tacos, 1 Pork Tostada and 1 Barbacoa Taco. Last stop of the taco tour and pulled through with not only eating 1 El Pastor taco which was very good I also shared a corn covered with goodness. I think they take the cooked corn and cover it with butter or mayo and then it's covered with cheese. I shared 1 and it was awesome! They were kind enough to cut it before coating it. I was snowboarding up in Vail for a weekend and my friend took me to this place called Tacos Junior. Although I didn't order much on the menu, the items I did were not bad overall. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but according to my friend, this was Denver's hotspot for tacos. I would say the best item was the mango with chilli and lime, however it was super fresh. Looking at the other reviews, I would say I missed out on a lot. I'm not use to paying that much for Mexican food, but maybe it's because the only Mexican food in California that I buy are from taco trucks. I love street tacos so much. The tacos al pastor are to die for! The tacos aren't as cheap as I expected but they are really worth the price. The store is in a strange location but it's very clean inside and the people who work here are really nice. There are a lot of different options for food here and next time I'll have to try something else on the menu. They even have desserts and cakes in a refrigerated cake up front. This location is huge. The food was made quickly to order. I got the horchata and it was sooo good. But they give you a giant cup of it, basically a bucket of horchata. Tacos Junior came as a recommendation from a Mexican friend of my sister's. No complaints whatsoever about this place. It's a casual dining experience where you walk up to the counter to order and then get called back up to the counter when your order is ready. We were four adults with two babies and ordered the chicken empanadas, enchiladas, beef burito, and 4 different tacos. I noticed the fresh fruit bar and got a strawberry smoothie. It was very refreshing with a true strawberry flavor and wasn't too sweet. The others got papaya and pineapple smoothies. We shared everything, and it was extremely fresh and delicious. We ate around 1PM and felt satisfied for the rest of the day. Many of us still felt full from lunch at dinner time 7PM The salsas are pretty spicy here. If I were to go back, I would just order a bunch of tacos al pastor and be done with it. By far, they were the best thing we ordered. Apart from those tacos, I ordered a bit randomly (lengua, carnita, and barbacoa tacos) and Dan had a torta cubana. We also had two giant Big Gulp sized buckets of agua fresca, which were well worth their $4 price tag, with Dan's fresa tasting like one big mashed-up strawberry and my mango slightly less mango-y, but still containing big shreds of the fresh fruit in the bottom. Since Dan ordered the same torta at Tarascos, I can say that the two tortas cubanas do not resemble each other whatsoever. This one was heavy on the hot dog and eggs, not to mention the grease. It was a monster and it took my two meals to finish my half. As for the other (not al pastor) tacos, they were all right, but all of them sorely needed liberal dumpings of salsa to get them to 'tasty'. Oh, but those tacos al pastor. Just trust me on this one. They don't need a thing, what with the sweetness of the pineapple cutting into the meat, but they'll take either red or green salsa nicely. Yeah, I'll write a review. Most of the reviewers got it right, but one thing I didn't see; the aguas fruitas. Get the fresh squeezed juice. Orange/lime is my fave, or add some mango. Four or five bucks and it is a bucket. The food is great, everything I have had. Some weird stuff with stuffed corn masa, fried and topped with meats. Sometimes a little greasy, but you ordered fried stuffed masa, what do you want. The pastor is the best on this side of town. (If you are on East Colfax and about Trenton (I know, why would you be?) try Tacomex for a great pastor $.99) I am old-school taco cart, so I think Tacos Junior is a little expensive for tacos. But the quality is there and it is nice to have a roof overhead sometimes. read more

This was a "meh" experience, but I'm still going with 3 stars since this was my first visit and I haven't tried other options on the menu. We arrived for tacos and that's what we ordered. The al pastor tacos were by far better than the carnitas or the barbacoa. The carnitas seemed to lack any sort of flavor or seasoning - maybe that was the intention. Both the carnitas and the barbacoa were too fatty for my liking. I liked the tomatillo & red salsas that were served with the tacos. I was especially pleased to see that the corn tortillas were not fried & greasy. The were quite good and were the standout of my dish. We arrived around noon on a Friday and it was dead inside. Taco Rapture 2011 - Stop #4 - Since this was stop #4 I had almost had my fill of tacos by this point. I'm glad that I was sharing and that I had not consumed 12 entire tacos so there was still a little room left. I shared a pork type of taco - which I found some what bland. I then had an El Pastor type burrito - and I have to say this was my favorite El Pastor of the day. I also tried the corn covered in mayo, lime, cheese and chili powder. I'm glad that I shared this as well. I'm sure that it was tasty but this dish just isn't for me. I'm not sure if I would have felt different at the beginning of the tour or if it was the fact that I thought I was going to explode at this point. Either way I tried it and didn't care for it. I just think I'm a corn on the cob purist and just give me some butter and salt and pepper and I'm good to go. Try not to judge from the outside, pretty solid tacos. This location is huge, and can definitely accommodate large families or groups. I ordered Al Pastor tacos, and the flavor was great. I'm giving this spot 3 stars because between myself & my man, we only received 1 green salsa and 2 reds to split between the 2 of us. The green salsa was delicious, and we each needed 2 ourselves vs. 1 little cup to split. An order of tacos should have came with 4, but instead, we were served 3. Service was quick. Tacos para mi? Por favor. Muy bien Tacos Junior, muy bien! My 4-year old loves it here too. In our search for the "perfect" taco, we stopped here and enjoyed tacos y huaraches. The asada tacos and the asada huaraches were very tasty. Only problem was that I ordered the lengua huaraches, so with the same meat on both of our meals, I can't tell you about anything other than the asada. It was quite tasty though, and we will be back. My son loved the decor too. Back on my soapbox for a moment. If you are a parent of a young child (or are planning to be in the future), and you are not exposing your child to as many different types of foods as possible, you are doing yourself and your child a disservice. I am comfortable that I can take my 4-year old to any restaurant and order a meal for him that he would love and is nutritious as well. Four-and-a-half years, and still never been to a McDonald's. I have said it before and I will say it again now. If you want to raise your child to be a citizen of the world do not buy into the marketing and the children's menus, expose him or her to the foods of the world in culturally accurate settings. There are millions of children in India that eat Indian food each day. Millions in Mexico that eat Mexican food each day. Millions in China that have never tasted Chop Suey. I know of no children in McDonaldland that are surviving on Happy Meals. It is all about exposure. Your kids look to you to know what they should eat. If you order them the mac-and-cheese or chicken nuggets each time, that is all that they will ever know. One week after arriving in the world, my son was accompanying me to sushi for dinner and he has never thought anything strange of eating the amaebi (raw shrimp) heads (they are tempura fried but still have the eyes, legs and ???, ikura (salmon eggs) or tobiko (flying fish eggs) with quail eggs, and he can tell you that he does not share his papa's taste for uni (sea urchin) because he has tried that too. My only rule with food is that I ask him to try everything once to see if he likes it. 98% of the time he will try it, and with that percentage, I do not ever push the other 2%. Nuff said. i like to go here for al pastor tacos. they have what is quite possibly the largest al pastor cone on a rotisserie i have ever seen. i usually get the 4 tacos. the tacos come w cucumbers, radishes, and two types of salsa all the side. a salted cucumber is heavenly after something spicy. they also put chunks of pineapple on the al pastor, which not all taquerias do. the menu is somewhat limited and i doubt it fits in the colorado definition of mexican because i didnt see any mention of green chile! finally! there are alot of things that i would like to try but i cant shake the al pastor addiction. the place is big and very clean. the color scheme is an eye popping yellow and flourescent green. order at the counter but dont expect a conversation as they usually dont speak a great deal of english. there are alot of murals-fruit, mermaids, men on horses, the sombrero w wheels which is their logo-you know what any of us would paint on our walls. they also have an smoothie counter if your into that. on a side note they used to have a panaderia which is unfortunately gone. now replaced by a country vista mural w man on horse vista. i asked the guy what happened to the panaderia and he just smiled and shook his head no. i dont know what that meant. its tough being a dumb gringo. oh yeah and there was a gentleman who answered his phone and told the person on the line, "oh we're at some mexican dive for lunch." i'd love to take him out to see some real dives! i guess being a dumber gringo is even harder. read more

Lady at the counter was not super fluent (off peak hours on a snowy weeknight) so my order got a bit botched, but another helpful staffer helped smooth it out. Smothered burrito to go, the filling was surrounded by a thin layer of rice spread on the tortilla, which was pretty cool. I went for the al pastor which was pretty spicy, but otherwise not super flavorful. Went here for tacos de pastor, as they advertise it to be their specialty, and cooked on a spit. I did not see a spit and my tacos looked boiled and tasted boiled. There was no salsa bar, I was given only one red salsa and one wedge of lime. My horchata tasted like milk from a can, reminded me of Ensure (a canned nutritional shake). I stumbled upon this restaurant while running errands. This is a down home place without the frills of fancy restaurants. This is an order and pick up your order place - at least that's what it was when I visited today. No other guests around when I entered the place, bu there were a few soon after. The restrooms were also very clean. The menu is wide and varied. Since this was my first visit, I chose a taco plate. Once you place an order, you pick it up at the kitchen counter when the order is ready. Be prepared to wait near the counter or wait for the cook to call when your order is ready. My order consisted of four tacos, each of them with a different meat. IF you are not sure what you're getting, ask the cashier.order taker. Mine was very helpful. These are the traditional Mexican tacos, not the kind you find in our fast food stores- the tacos are small soft tacos, served with the meat/s of your choice, wedges of lime, radish, a red sauce and a green sauce. The tacos were warm and delicious, and definitely do not compare to foods peddled as south-of -the-border foods. My meal was delicious. I enjoyed the tacos and sauces. Overall, a great first visit, and I look forward to trying the other items on the menu.
