I ordered 3 carne asada tacos and they were decent; a little more chewy than I was planning. Didn't care too much for the way the meat was cut, I felt like the pieces were too big. Additionally, eating street tacos with flour tortillas was different. I was expecting corn, so the flour tortillas were a surprise and made it interesting. Lastly, the prices were a little steep considering the texture of the tacos. I don't think I would get them again. Staff were nice enough and the booth was chill, but the tacos weren't the best and I'd much rather go somewhere else.

*fast service *casual ambiance *food is yummy This place is located inside market on 8th This taco stand has great flavors and great salsas. I had the combo 1 with tuétano and the caramelo taco they were definitely delicious. We will definitely be back to try the tomahawk here

A recent article that described the revamped lineup at the Market on 8th food hall in National City mentioned this vendor stall was going to feature Argentinian steak. The floor plan on the sign at the entrances even indicated this. On the website, the reality was that Tacos La Ocho has taken over this spot which used to offer Indonesian cuisine. Sinaloan-style carne asada tacos were now the signature items. Variations with bone marrow, cheese, fried beans, and tripe were included. Two tortas, one with carne asada and the other with BBQ brisket, rounded out the menu. The first item, aptly named The Number 1, was my choice. Carne asada meat using a top sirloin cut was served with onions and salsa verde on a flour tortilla. On a second tortilla next to this was two pieces of grilled bone marrow. Condiments like hot sauce, pico de gallo, and cucumbers were available to add as toppings at the service counter. The meat quality was good, I just wish there was more marrow on the bones. The $6.75 price would have been very pricey for one street size carne asada taco. I'm certain that the cost reflected the grilled marrow. The menu photo of this item looked a lot more attractive than what I received, but that's typical with most restaurants.

Tacos here were AMAZING! Lived up to the hype for sure. Presentation was basic on paper plates you can get at Walmart, but the flavors were top notch. My only complaint was my bone marrow was overcooked and thus pretty dry. I got the combo #1 (one carne asada taco with bone marrow) and a birria taco. The birria taco did not come with consommé but there was plenty of broth inside the taco itself so it was still great. Perfect crunch to the tortilla shell, perfectly cooked meats inside. Will definitely be back! Service was quick, and the new ambiance inside Market on 8th is good. Plenty of tables available at the time we went.

The steak I ordered was simply delicious. Came with a couple of quesadillas onions, jalapeño and a tuetano bone... omg it is a must place to visit

Enjoyed the tacos here. I stuck with asada and pork. Presentation was nice. Prices were slightly elevated. But the food came out quick. I'd eat more tacos here again. They have some interesting food including bone barrow and NY steak.

Hard to beat their $21 NY steak deal (12/2024)! Recommend and plan on trying other items on menu

I got the Poem burrito and it's decently priced at $14 (crazy that's a decent price for burrito now-a-days but what can you say). the burrito itself was a little bland but the salsa and toppings they had were amazing and made the burrito a 10/10

Not the best sign when the taco wasn't that good. Sadly.

This spot earned its second star because the folks running the kitchen were so nice. Otherwise, pretty big disappointment. The burrito was pure grease and very chewy carne asada. The "birria" taco was very shredded beef at best. I really wanted to love this place.

The taco Tuesday special tacos are pastor, suadero, or cabeza 2.99 each. I tried the suadero today, I thought it had a lot of flavor but a little too greasy for me. The pastor is still the best deal around and I have found myself here for the past 4 Tuesdays lmao

Ordered a tomahawk steak for 2...and it was simply delicious, tender and juicy!! Chef Manny and his team grilled it to a perfect medium-rare! All so friendly! Their salsas are tasty! Highly recommend this spot!

I love flour tortillas tacos and these are incredible! Ordered the #1 tacos and two al pastor tacos with regular corn tortillas, they were delicious, topped with a special cilantro-pineapple sauce

You order and pay first, then they call your name when everything's ready. Service was nice and straightforward. The salsa bar was clean and stocked with fresh limes, two salsas, and radishes. There are a few tables inside plus a bigger table, but we chose to sit outside on the patio. It was clean, comfortable, and the weather made it easy to eat outside. Cabeza: $3.69. Super juicy and packed with flavor. If you like cabeza, this one hits. It came with onions and cilantro and didn't need much else. Lengua: $4.38. Lengua is usually my go-to, and this one was cooked really well. Not greasy at all, which I appreciated. The texture was right, and the flavor was solid, especially with extra lime. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't order more than one at that price. Adobada: $3.69 each. These were my husband's favorite. They come with a creamy green salsa that isn't at the salsa bar, and it pairs really well with the pork. Probably the safest order here. I'd come back to try other items since they have a lot of different cuts and styles, but the prices do make you pause a little, especially if you're ordering multiple tacos.

You now have to pay first, then wait for your food to be made. I actually preferred the old setup where you could walk to the different stations, pick your tacos, watch them prepare everything fresh, get it packed up, and then pay at the end. It felt like part of the experience. We also have to talk about the pricing. I remember when these tacos were around $1.25 each. Now they're over $4 for a mini street taco. I understand this is California and the cost of goods has increased, but that is a drastic jump. That said, I don't want to take away from the food because the tacos are still excellent. I ordered two buche tacos and a quesadilla, and both were 10 out of 10. They don't miss when it comes to seasoning and flavor. The service is still quick as well. My only real complaint is the price. It feels overpriced for what you're getting, and honestly, it may explain why there weren't many people there when we visited. There were only a handful of customers inside. The food is still worth trying, but be prepared for some serious sticker shock.

While their catering service is still awesome, the everyday food here has completely missed the mark. On my recent visit, the al pastor was exceptionally chewy and the flavor was just off. To top it off, the service was incredibly unenthusiastic. The cashier had a poor attitude and seemed like she would rather be doing absolutely anything other than her job. Given the current prices and the noticeable drop in quality, I think it is best to stick to other taco shops in the area.
