This food "stand" has some of the best tacos I've ever had. Hands down. When I saw "stand" I thought it would be a bit more of an official thing, but seriously is a few tables and a grill. If you don't see it at first, just look for the bigger van where they bring in the stuff, and you'll see people working. But even with the minimal working parts, these tacos are the best. You order up at the grill. The grill table is complete with a giant kebab of al pastor pork, chicken, beans, cheese, and grilled onions. Once you say what you'd like, they make it up super fast. (We had tacos al pastor and a burrito al pastor). On the table behind the grill, there is someone rolling out the individual tortillas (which are fabulous and obviously super fresh). After they make your choice of dinner, you step to the side to pay (cash only) for what you've ordered. They also have horchata at this point, which is not to be missed and a huge cup is only $2. After you've gotten your food, you can walk over to another table. This is filled with salsas, spicy avocado sauce, onions, Pico, cucumber, and limes (I feel like I'm forgetting something). The best place to get tacos around USC. The hours are more consistent now that they've made street food legal in LA. There's another taco stand on Vermont and 36th St, they're not consistently there. Tbh all of their tacos are good. They also make burritos and quesadillas upon request. -- Tacos = $1.50 -- Burritos & Quesadillas = $5 -- Horchata = $1.50 (used to be $1, but I guess they know they're good and that they can charge more and people will still get them) They also have other soft drinks like Jaritos, Coke, Sprite, etc. The last time I went they added chairs for you to sit on and enjoy your meal. I used to have to just it on the curb in the parking lot, but it was still worth it. If you haven't had it before, it's good to have street tacos at least once! THEIR QUESADILLAS ARE SO AMAZING. I came here around 10:30 p.m., and there was no line at all. It's situated in the parking lot near the Vermont True Value outlet. Their hours do vary, but if you're close by then it doesn't hurt to check to see if they're up and running. They sell tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. I got the carne asada quesadilla and three al pastor tacos. The total was $10.50. Wow the quesadilla was so good. It was pretty oily, but the portion was good. Quesadilla: 4.5/5. The tacos were a bit disappointing. Something about them was just off to me. The tortillas were kind of hard, and the tacos just weren't that juicy. I prefer Leo's taco truck for tacos. Tacos: 3/5. The workers are native Spanish speakers, but it isn't hard to communicate with them. They're so kind! Also, the man who made my food did a really cool trick where he would cut and fling the pineapple down onto the tacos from the top of the meat machine in one movement. It's really true; once you've had tacos in LA, you can't go back unless you're in the motherland. I swore by Leo's taco truck for awhile when I would crave for tacos in LA, but this taco stand captured my heart and.. stomach! They offer all kinds of meats, handmade tortillas that are made right in front of you and a vast selection of condiments from red salsa to cucumbers. I mean they have every condiment you can wish for to dress your tacos! Love their grilled onions and jalapeños! I've only tried the carne asada, al pastor and pollo and all are delicious! Most people opt for the al pastor and you will see why once it's being cooked right in front of you. You will definitely understand why when you bite into it. It's got the crisp too, which I personally love! The pollo and carne asada are cooked already, so he normally reheats it on the grill! The owner and his family are super sweet and nice! Known to USC students as Tacozone, Tacos Listo is easily the best Al pastor I've ever had, their tacos and burritos are both extremely good. I highly recommend their green salsas, the red salsa is not as good. When I was a student here I would eat it like 2-3 times a week. read more

It is such an underground spot that the owner doesn't even have a name for his biz, but it is right on the corner of Vermont Ave and 30th St- across the street from True Value Hardware Store. You must try the street tacos in LA they said. Like none other they said. So here I go. I did my research and found the local favorite. This is a little street stand with about four guys working the stand. I was surprised they were making the corn tortillas there for the tacos. They had pastor de trompo, caveza, buche, asada and one more I can't remember the last one. I really liked their topping options including cucumber slices... that's a new one... for me. Maybe it's an LA thing. So I grabbed a little of everything. These are the small tortillas and they are not doubled. They were okay. I feel like the asada meat wasn't grilled enough there were no crispy edges on the meat, the tortillas weren't greasy enough and the hottest sauce they offered had very little heat. This place is a USC institution. Most people know it by the name TacoZone because it is in the autozone parking lot. Every Friday and Saturday night you can find a like about 30 minutes at night as people wait to get tacos after a night of going out. Keep in mind that this place only accepts cash so prepare for that before going. They aren't open every day but a good way to know if they are open is the Check an instagram page called istacozoneopen. When they are open, they usually stay open till 2:30 AM. Their al pastor with pineapple is a crowd favorite but I personally really just like the chicken. I either get the chicken burrito, which comes with rice, beans, chicken, onion and cilantro, or the chicken tacos which comes with just the tortilla and chicken. It depends on how hungry I am because usually the burrito is only worth it if I'm starving. Tacos were just OK, nothing to brag about. I'm not sure what the big deal is about homemade tortillas at taco joints, but it really wasn't any different than eating store-bought corn tortillas. Maybe if Tacos Listo did not keep their homemade tortillas in their steamer basket for so long, then maybe they'd taste a whole lot better, but they did not. The al pastor looked promising but that too was done wrong. If the TACOS LISTO OWNER is reading this, please take this as feedback to maybe improve your al pastor tacos. Please DO NOT continue to cook the al pastor after you slice it from the spit. I don't know why they were doing this, but they were essentially double-cooking the meat. All this does is overcook the tender meat and turn it into a crunchy and dry disaster. Please just slice the meat next time and put it directly into the tacos. I wouldn't mind waiting longer if the al pastor tacos were made this way. I also had the asada meat, but this was also just OK -- a little overcooked and dry. Living a block away is practically dangerous, with how tempting it can be to walk less than a minute and deposit a truly paltry amount of cash in exchange for some of the most delicious, juicy, unsullied tacos in the county. The tortillas are handmade, the carne asada is warm, the pastor comes straight off the spit (often accompanied by an acrobatic chop of pineapple), and the lengua is the perfect opportunity to broaden your gringo palate. A small, simple taco stand serving some of the best al pastor I've had in Los Angeles, and possibly in all of SoCal (I live in San Diego and I would say it gives Tacos El Gordo a good run for its money!). The grill master works quickly and skillfully as he slices the al pastor from the trompo and flips a little piece of pineapple on the taco. It's quite an entertaining show to watch as you wait for your food. The tacos looked bomb but as soon as I saw a burrito being made, I knew what I wanted. The burrito comes with fresh Spanish rice, pinto beans, cilantro and onions, and of course a heaping helping of al pastor - all for $5! You can also get some of the grilled onions and peppers thrown in it if you ask. Definitely one of the best burritos I've ever had. There's no real closing time for this place because I think they just go until they use up their supplies for the night. Consistently awesome (even if it's not consistently there). USC students will recognize this stand as "TacoZone" since it's so close to the AutoZone - a well-frequented spot for weekend drunchies. As someone who lives close by, I can say without a doubt that the food, prices, and service here are great even when you're sober. Everything is cooked fresh and there's a table set up with all the toppings and sauces you might need. Remember that it's cash only, and try to prepare yourself for disappointment if it's not there on a particular night since opening days/times are irregular. I love how I found this taco stand on yelp. But yeah, as a USC student I remember always seeing this random taco stand just on the corner of Vermont and 30th and there would always be a line, so my friends and I made the late night adventure. Worth it. 1.25 a taco! They also have burritos and quesadillas. But basically you pick one of the meats and tell them if you want it in a taco, burrito, or quesadilla. The first time I went was super late, right before they closed so they ran out of everything except tongue (Lengua), so I got one tongue taco. Never eaten tongue before...oh man, it was so tender and delicious. The 2nd time I went was at a more reasonable time so I got some pork-meat (not sure what he gave me...) taco and a chicken taco. Again, it was delicious and on point. There's also a salsa bar with fresh cucumbers and radishes. The red salsa is very hot so watch out. This place was introduced to me by fellow Mexican colleagues who were basically from Mexico. And they said this joint has the flavor and taste for the tacos, so close to the tacos made in Mexico. I felt like I ate food cooked by the hands of a Mexican mother. Pure flavor and the sauces have authentic taste when spread on the tacos. He has quesadialla which is made out of cheese and meat on the stove, with the cheese spread like a cheese bed and meat on top of it and blanketed by a tortilla.
