I first spotted Tacos Sin Karma at the Century City Farmers' Market while I was waiting for my order at Porchetta Republic (yes, unlikely neighbors). I returned with my pescatarian hubby a few months later. We ordered a burrito and split it, after reading the Yelp reviews. The burrito weighed a ton, and after biting into my half, I could not believe it was vegan. The "meat," which the woman told me was vegan, though vague on ingredients, tasted like carne asada. I still eat meat so I know what it tastes like and could not believe that it wasn't actually beef. Those Yelpers who say you can split a burrito don't have my appetite. I could have easily downed that burrito and been blissfully content the rest of the day. Instead, I was filled with regret that we didn't get nachos as well. Next time. My sister and I randomly happened upon their pop up stand in the parking lot of The Hawk Bar in Long Beach and decided to try some of their tacos. I must say, they were delish! They have three items on the menu: tacos, a burrito, and nachos. Each and every one looked amazing. It was hard to choose what to order. I split the burrito with my dining companion. The burrito had carne as-nada(vegan meat), rice and beans in a flour tortilla topped with cabbage and cilantro, red salsa, green salsa, and guacamole ($12). The vegan meat was very moist and tender and the burrito was juicy but not messy. It was big enough for two to share. They kindly cut it in half for us. The customer service here is outstanding. I love that it's a family run business and that they really, truly care about their food and their customers. The stand also looked very organized and clean. Tacos Sin Karma hands down has the best vegan burrito I've had since I started. Vegan or not I know these burritos can stand toe to toe with its competitors. My girlfriend and I eat A LOT of Mexican so please trust me. I probably bleed guacamole at this point... I tried this place out when they were doing a pop-up at The Hawk in Long Beach for Taco Tuesday. At first, I was very intrigued that it was 100% plant-based, so naturally I wanted to show my support. Unfortunately, the tacos did not impress me. I had the As-Nada (cute name) taco and the Birria(?) taco. I preferred the latter as it had more flavor but it was really hard to eat as it was very hot and wet and broke my tortilla. I had to finish it off with a fork. They might want to consider giving two tortillas for more reinforcement. The texture and flavor tasted similar to the dried soy "meat" that is served in Asian vegetarian restaurants.
