    BAJA TACO and FISH TACO
    Phuoc B.

It was my first time trying a vegan taco shop so I was excited! Lots of space to sit inside. It's a very cute restaurant. Service was great. What I ordered was just ok. I provided pictures below. After eating here I didnt feel very well after. Everything looked great but tasted a little off. Idk if the food was just made fresh or sitting around. Sorry but it wasn't a good first try for me.

I came here not even knowing it was vegan (oops) and would definitely come back. I got the barbacoa (jackfruit) taco which was good but could have had more jackfruit in it, and the fish filet taco which was shockingly good for not even being real fish! I want to come back for their $15 margarita flight!

I got the taco platter with asada, barbacoa, and the veggie one. The "barbacoa" with jackfruit was AMAZING! I've lived down the street for some time now but tried it for the first time. They have a Taco Tuesday deal for $2.99 tacos, which unfortunately doesn't show up on their website, but that's alright. Got both horchata and jamaica, with the latter being my favorite. The horchata did not taste as I expected but still yummy, maybe because it had more bits of rice(?) in it?? I went back the next day for more barbacoa tacos and the bartender was really friendly and gave good recommendations, didn't get their name but had a cool bike in the corner. The place itself was open and airy, with cute decor! Need to go back to try the margs and other cocktails!

Tacotarian was truly a great surprise. Being an OMNIVORE, this establishment was a hidden gem. Ambiance was captivating and l was quite surprised on how large the establishment was... I was totally surprised by how good all the tacos I ordered. The Gabacho, bean and cheese, and mushroom tacos tasted like any regular taco. Dude it all tasted great. Happy hour was amazing not only for drinks but also for selection items. I will definitely return and eat to my hearts desire. Thank you for a great meal.

I was in San Diego for less than ten days and ate here three times. That's how good the food was! The margaritas were also great! They have a big menu too, so I wish I could've tried more. Seems like the kind of place you can't go wrong no matter what you order. The restaurant was nice and has a parking lot in the back, which is great for the busy area. Highly recommend!!

TORTILLA SOUP - pretty oily and lacking flavor (to-go order)
    Grace

this cinco de mayo i had high hopes, as i was craving tortilla soup and ordered some to-go from tacotarian, along with a side of black beans. i wasn't very impressed-- the soup was pretty oily overall and not super flavorful. even after i doctored it up with some salt and spices, it just was lacking. i also didn't get very many beans/veggies in mine, it was 95% broth. it could have used some lime, less oil, and more spices! (which maybe my experience was a one-off, because i read another review that the soup was spicy and mine wasn't at all)? the black beans however were delicious; was hoping for a little more out of the soup though!

I really love the food here. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but omg... do I dare to say the food tastes better than if it had meat? The margaritas here are amazing. The Jamaica margarita is the best. The service is great. The only downside is that there are no waiters. But that's okay. I will say that the vibe of this place is very instagramable. The clothes are cute too.

    Al pastor and fish taco

I'm a meat eater and this was a nice experience and something different. But the prices are a bit steep. The restaurant is clean and more spacious than I anticipated. Infused water station and plastic cups to grab your own water as needed. We had a reserved table of about 15 people and customer service was good. The pineapple agua fresca was delicious and my favorite part of my meal. 2 salsas that are both very spicy. The al pastor and fish tacos were okay, I really liked the tortilla of the al pastor taco but I noticed they put a lot of toppings in the tacos so I could barely taste or even notice the protein. The guac was okay, expensive for a very small portion of it. The takis elote on the cob looked more flavorful than it was but the corn itself was cooked well. I won't be returning or recommending this restaurant to others, but I'm glad I tried it!

Yum! Awesome vegan Mexican food. Great service and food came out fast. Extensive menu. Order at the counter and they deliver to the table. This was wonderful. Thank you

I am not vegan, but came here with vegan friends and was pleasantly surprised! I tried a few tacos and they were all filled with so much flavor. The Veggie taco seemed like an upgraded Dorado tacos with a few more things inside. The Carne Asada tasted so good, you couldn't even tell it was vegan. The bean and cheese taco was a classic but tasted great. For drinks, every margarita sounded good so I did the margarita flight. My favorites on the flight were Tamarindo and mango. If you're looking for a vegan spot, this is the go to!

It was my first time trying tacotarian, and I was obsessed with the takis elote. I haven't had elote prepared like this since I went vegan 8 years ago, so this was so nostalgic. The ratio of the elote and taki topping on top was perfectly balanced to me! My friend and I also opted for the Crunchwrap and burrito, both of which were delish as well! My friend brought her husky along with us, and I appreciated how dog friendly this place was. They have some outdoor seating, but we were able to sit indoors with her.

Okay. I lowkey adore this place. It's bigger than you think. As a meat eater, it's more delicious than you think. And someone who always likes to save a buck or two, it's more affordable than you think. Really enjoyed my time here. I came on a Monday around 2pm for a late lunch. They recommended the platter since it's my first time but because I also had an early dinner, I went with two tacos. The first was a jackfruit taco and the second was a dorado. Both kinda smacked but the jackfruit was superior. I opted for the extra hot salsa (which was more medium than anything) and it gave a nice little added touch to the meal. My friend had the asada fries which he devoured so it must have been good. They have a water station there with sliced fruit. They have free wifi. They have merch. The only downside is parking. There are a few right in front of the spot but you'll mostly have to look further out. They have brunch options as well as starters, tacos, elote, side dishes, soups, salads, and most importantly, dessert! Staff were great. I left my wallet and they held onto it as I circled back 30 minutes later. The last thing to note is the phrases and sayings on the wall. A little cheesy but kinda cute at the same time.

Loved trying Tacotarian! The staff was fantastic explaining the menu and assured us everything was plant based, from the "meats" to the "cheeses." I tried the Horchata, chorizo taco, and veggie taco. The horchata tasted delicious, but was a bit thicker than I was used to. Either way, would definitely order again! I often cook with soyrizo, so was looking forward to the chorizo taco, but it tasted more like ground beef than pork to me. The veggie taco was the real standout! Delicious, fresh, and was different than any other taco I've had with its mushrooms and mashed potatoes. It was pretty empty on Saturday night, I hope buisness is busier on other days. Would love to see this place grow and thrive!

Gordo's adobada can compare favorably to al pastor anywhere; however, my experience at this "Gordo" location in Gaslamp has been inconsistent compared to Chula Vista and Vegas locations, due to their higher volume. The smaller space also has less seating, which is a bummer if you are coming here on a busy comic con day. The adobada here, though, is the taco to get. Consider yourself lucky if you get a nice portion of crispy and burnt bits as they offer nice textural bites. Their sauces/salsas are also equally good, and it sets it above and beyond another taquero from Tijuana, Tacos El Franc. Don't shy away from their asada tacos either, as the meat has a nice kiss of charcoal and it's topped with a generous portion of guac. I gave up trying to get my lengua taco because I had no idea that I was supposed to receive it first before I received my fries (after paying). If my review is confusing, it's because it really was confusing during my visit here. But that's not all. There were upstairs seating available, but NO AIR WAS AVAILABLE. It was unbearable to sit in that heat and eat comfortably in that kind of environment. I felt so nauseous during and after my visit at this location. I don't even remember how my one taco tasted.. Even later, when I threw it up later that night.. Will not go back to this location, but am willing to check out other locations.

I ordered: * Mahi Mahi Taco: the fish tasted fresh, and I liked the crispy onions on top. There was quite a bit of sauce, which made it pretty messy to eat. While the fish was good, it felt like a very heavy taco overall. * Surf & Turf Taco: this was loaded with steak and topped with two flavorful shrimp. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. Still, it's a solid spot for an affordable late-night bite. One thing to note: there are no restrooms available inside the restaurant.

It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."
