After trying at a few Yelp events I Finally made it to the Tacotarian storefront! I ordered to go and it was very quick. Cute seating area at the bar, the front/outside, and back. They have great taco Tuesday options, and weekly specials. I opted for the Baja taco which was delicious and loaded with sauce. I also was very pleased with their takis elote and churros for dessert. Not pictured coz I gobbled it up - I tried the Cali burrito with mushroom asada as the protein. Also the agua de jamaica was very refreshing and highly recommend. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great plant-based Mexican food in a cute modern setting. I saw this place while walking by earlier in the day and suggested it for dinner to the hubby and friends. Our vegan friends had already been, of course, but they'd liked it and was game for a return visit. It's a fast-casual setup, where you order at counter and they bring out the food to you. I saw their sign for a Birria ramen special and had to try it. It was saucy, not soupy, with good flavor. I wished the noodles were a bit more al dente but enjoyed it fine overall. The hubby had the chorizo burrito combo plate, which was HUGE and delicious. The horchata was way too sweet for my taste, unfortunately, but the sweet-toothed hubby thought it was pretty good. The cute modern decor was pleasant, as was thr friendly service. Definitely would be up for a return trip. I got al pastor, carne asada and forgot the 3rd one but basically got the 3 most popular ones and they were so yummy! I love vegan taco places because i can eat anything there. While staying at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, we discovered Tacotarian in their mall. Ate several meals there. Now I find out that there is a Tacotarian in North Park on 30th. Huzzah! The vegan tacos are some of the best, some are even better than my own. My new fav is the Mushroom Asada beating out the Barbacoa and Vegie. My wife was torn between the Gabacho and the Baja and she loved, loved , loved her Tamarind Margarita. Happy Hour M-F 3-5 p.m. and $3 tacos for Taco Tuesday. We are going back! read more

I got the taco platter with asada, barbacoa, and the veggie one. The "barbacoa" with jackfruit was AMAZING! I've lived down the street for some time now but tried it for the first time. They have a Taco Tuesday deal for $2.99 tacos, which unfortunately doesn't show up on their website, but that's alright. Got both horchata and jamaica, with the latter being my favorite. The horchata did not taste as I expected but still yummy, maybe because it had more bits of rice(?) in it?? I went back the next day for more barbacoa tacos and the bartender was really friendly and gave good recommendations, didn't get their name but had a cool bike in the corner. this cinco de mayo i had high hopes, as i was craving tortilla soup and ordered some to-go from tacotarian, along with a side of black beans. i wasn't very impressed-- the soup was pretty oily overall and not super flavorful. even after i doctored it up with some salt and spices, it just was lacking. i also didn't get very many beans/veggies in mine, it was 95% broth. it could have used some lime, less oil, and more spices! (which maybe my experience was a one-off, because i read another review that the soup was spicy and mine wasn't at all)? the black beans however were delicious; was hoping for a little more out of the soup though! read more

I'm a meat eater and this was a nice experience and something different. But the prices are a bit steep. The restaurant is clean and more spacious than I anticipated. Infused water station and plastic cups to grab your own water as needed. We had a reserved table of about 15 people and customer service was good. The pineapple agua fresca was delicious and my favorite part of my meal. 2 salsas that are both very spicy. The al pastor and fish tacos were okay, I really liked the tortilla of the al pastor taco but I noticed they put a lot of toppings in the tacos so I could barely taste or even notice the protein. The guac was okay, expensive for a very small portion of it. The takis elote on the cob looked more flavorful than it was but the corn itself was cooked well. I am not vegan, but came here with vegan friends and was pleasantly surprised! I tried a few tacos and they were all filled with so much flavor. The Veggie taco seemed like an upgraded Dorado tacos with a few more things inside. The Carne Asada tasted so good, you couldn't even tell it was vegan. The bean and cheese taco was a classic but tasted great. For drinks, every margarita sounded good so I did the margarita flight. My favorites on the flight were Tamarindo and mango. I had a really disappointing first experience. I ordered a breakfast burrito, but it seemed like they didn't use much Just Egg. Even the Just Egg tasted watered down. What's a breakfast burrito with so little egg? Plus, it was mostly fillers. There were tons of potatoes, which were already on the plate. Why put so much in my burrito? The burrito was 75% potatoes, 5% eggs, and the rest was meat. The potatoes tasted like frozen package potatoes, like the stuff you get at your hotel lobby for breakfast. It was a huge letdown. We also ordered four rolled tacos, and it was depressing. There wasn't much filling, and the rice was cold. We asked for replacement rice, but it came out cold and even tasted soggy, like leftover from the day before. Maybe it's because we aren't locals, so they treated us like this. You can really sense the energy the moment we walked in. Sadly, they asked for tips before we got our food. If I could, I would have taken back my 20% tip. The food wasn't worth $50. read more

Literally the best vegan Mexican food I've ever had, and I say that as a vegan of 9 years. Everything here was delish, even the chips and salsa which is where a lot of restaurants phone it in. I ordered the al pastor burrito and churros also, and those were also superb. The prices are a little steep but standard for the area, and if I'm going to eat Mexican food in San Diego ever again, I'm going here. I actually ate here on the way back from Mexico, and the food I ate here was better than the food I had in Mexico, which shows how special the food is here. Okay. I lowkey adore this place. It's bigger than you think. As a meat eater, it's more delicious than you think. And someone who always likes to save a buck or two, it's more affordable than you think. Really enjoyed my time here. I came on a Monday around 2pm for a late lunch. They recommended the platter since it's my first time but because I also had an early dinner, I went with two tacos. The first was a jackfruit taco and the second was a dorado. Both kinda smacked but the jackfruit was superior. I opted for the extra hot salsa (which was more medium than anything) and it gave a nice little added touch to the meal. My friend had the asada fries which he devoured so it must have been good. They have a water station there with sliced fruit. They have free wifi. They have merch. The only downside is parking. There are a few right in front of the spot but you'll mostly have to look further out. They have brunch options as well as starters, tacos, elote, side dishes, soups, salads, and most importantly, dessert! Staff were great. Loved trying Tacotarian! The staff was fantastic explaining the menu and assured us everything was plant based, from the "meats" to the "cheeses." I tried the Horchata, chorizo taco, and veggie taco. The horchata tasted delicious, but was a bit thicker than I was used to. Either way, would definitely order again! I often cook with soyrizo, so was looking forward to the chorizo taco, but it tasted more like ground beef than pork to me. The veggie taco was the real standout! Delicious, fresh, and was different than any other taco I've had with its mushrooms and mashed potatoes. It was pretty empty on Saturday night, I hope buisness is busier on other days. Stopped by this place when I was heading back home and got hungry. The place is very spacious and clean, and the prices are decent. I'm giving it 3 stars because the tacos have way too much garnish! the al pastor had very little meat and about 3/4 of pineapple, the potato one had so much lettuce and cheese that I didn't even tasted any potatoes and it fell apart within the first bite (they over fried the tortilla and with the weight and wetness of the garnishes it broke). The chicken milanesa one had a little piece of chicken and no milanesa in sight. You can see by the pic I took how big and vast they look, unfortunately, is mainly cheese, crema, and lettuce. Delicious as always! I'm from out of town and my family makes it a point to come when we're in town. My non-vegan grandpa, finds it delicious and cleans his plate every time. Great customer service and food. The horchata is bomb too. There are options for outdoor & indoor seating. There are restrooms available for customers. Complimentary water is available in the dining area. If you manage to find a spot right in front, you'll have to pay for parking (we got $56 in fines because we didn't realize). I absolutely love Tacotarian! This place is a true gem, especially for vegans. There really need to be more spots like this. Mexican food is my favorite, and taco shops are one thing I truly missed after making the lifestyle change. I come here all the time, and my go-to is the chilaquiles for breakfast with carne asada. That said, everything here is fantastic, and don't forget to try the horchata, just be sure not to drink it all before your food arrives! I'm also a huge fan of the Quesa Birria, though a small tip for the cooks: please heat up the consommé a bit more. I was in San Diego on business and was excited to see a Tacotarian because I thought it was only in Las Vegas. As a vegan, it's so nice to eat tacos off the entire menu. The service was really good - personable and checked in on us. My husband had the birria ramen special. It was more like birria spaghetti than brothy - like ramen. But it was still good. And I had my faves: the plantain con mole taco, the barbacoa, the gabacho. We even ordered burritos the next day to have on the plane on the return trip home. I know things are expensive, but I was hoping for more than 2.5 bites for $3.99. They were okay, the flavors were missing for more and I really wanted something else from these. I was so excited to see asada fries on the menu and was excited to see the number of toppings to fry ratio. The asada didn't have much flavor and the guacamole was the only redeeming part of the meal. I could not actually finish it and that might be one of the first times that it has ever happened. Today tried the Asada Fries & mom got her usual fish taco. I have to say the food is really tasty & you'd never know the dishes are plant based, no real meat. The Asada Fries were delicious and the fish taco. Service was pleasant & I didn't have to wait long to order & was less than 10 minutes to prepare. There are two sides for seating the bar area is open & breezy wall/bar high chair seating & seats at the bar. And more tables are available on the opposite side that is not opened to the outside so less breeze. There is parking in entrance from alley off Meade or Kansas street. And limited street parking if you're lucky. Entrance from 30th street & also from the parking lot. Prices are pretty reasonable & some items comparable to regular Latin food shops but the fries $13.99 were half the size of those spots with meat. But definitely filling. Tacos are similar & actually $1 or so less. So I recommend Tacotarian for healthier options. Tacotarian is Latin & women owned & started in Las Vegas & there they have several different locations. I've visited one of the Vegas locations a few times and was excited to visit their SD location, it was just as good! I tried their Mexican pizza. I imagined it would be about the size of the Taco Bell one, but it wasn't, this one is huge! It's about the size of a medium pizza. Their enchiladas were tasty, but cold on the inside.
