Unfortunately like other places in flagstaff this shop went down hill. Brought my truck in without doing my research and just relying on old recommendations from years ago. I think they fixed my trucks issue... unfortunately I left the shop and found 2 new issues within 10 miles of headed home. I just woke up and tried my remote start not working? Basically everything they touched is worrying me. This is my daily driver I put probably 90 miles a day on this thing. At the end of the day I should have done my research and walked away as soon as I stepped foot into this place. Not mad at the shop I should take my truck back in a demand they fix the new issues but this would be the third time now and I feel like I will just leave with some slapped on temporary fix again. I was in flagstaff only for a few days. I needed an oil change and went to Valvoline. Valvoline gave me a list of maintenance items my car needed, which scared me because I needed to be able to drive down the mountain to Phoenix tomorrow. I found TAG because of their great reviews. Even though they were busy and about to go to lunch, they very kindly inspected the items I was most concerned about, the serpentine belt and the brakes. They showed me both were in good shape. I offered to pay for the inspection, but they very kindly waived the fee. I am in flagstaff often and will definitely use TAG for anything my car needs when I'm here. Had a wreck Halloween night while staying in Flagstaff and and asked a student at our hotel if he knew of a garage to have my car evaluated and he said he'd heard this was a decent place. Went inside to find an office with a guy behind a desk and three others, all who wouldn't even acknowledge I was there, basically. I began telling them what I needed although it seemed terribly uninteresting and when I finished the desk guy told me he couldn't check it over for another four hours. I told him once again that I lived out of town and asked if I could wait a bit and get it done because I had no transportation. He said no and I left feeling they were four of the rudest dudes ever, worst customer service I've ever encountered. The morning we left CA to move our son into the dorms at NAU the check engine light came on... took it to the Lexus dealer in Tustin, CA and was told the code read a bad air flow sensor, but they didn't have one in stock. Was told it's not horrible and I could get it fixed in Phoenix at a dealer there. Went to 2 (rude, dismissive) Lexus dealerships in Phoenix for help before heading to Flagstaff... was told they were too busy to diagnose and didn't have the part, anyway. Called 3 private shops in Phoenix - couldn't help, abrupt. Got to Flagstaff and wanted to be sure car was safe to leave with Frosh son before we returned to SoCal the next day. Found reviews on Yelp for TAG Auto - 51 5-star reviews, and under a mile from my son's NAU dorm. Called TAG around 4pm Monday and explained the situation. Told them the issue was diagnosed at the Lexus dealer in SoCal as air flow sensor. They were super friendly and said they would (understandably) want to diagnose on their own, but would order the part for the next morning, and quoted a very fair price! Brought the vehicle 8am Tuesday so they could diagnose and see if it was the air flow sensor and if the car was safe to leave with son that day after move-in. The TAG team did the diagnosis and - within 5 min - told me the problem was not the air flow sensor... it was a disconnected hose!! WOW!! Fixed in 5 min and only accepted a minor service charge for all of their help - and saving me many hundreds of dollars - and giving this mom peace of mind! Our Heroes!! We were traveling from LA CA to flagstaff and the drop our son off at school. Our truck broke down 90miles outside of town. We called AAA and had the truck sent to TAG. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. He rushed out truck because of our circumstances. 11/10 service. We took a week long trip out West from Indiana, far from home, and had issues with our Ford Escape. The issue started in CO. Our low pressure fuel pump went bad causing the car to completely stop running. We took the car to an auto shop in the middle of nowhere, as it was the nearest one, where they supposedly changed out the pump but not even a week later, same issues happened!! We managed to drive the car to TAG Automotive Repair where they first were unsure of the issue but after leaving the car with them for a day, they informed us that the same fuel pump needs changed out. They went out of their way, on a day the shop was closed, to change that out in time for us to head back home. We would have waited longer going to these other shops in Flagstaff due to being booked up. Even though TAG did have other cars on their lot, they completed the job at a reasonable time. We are so thankful for the two men who worked on our car Saturday 7/20/24. I wish I had gotten their names but they did an amazing job. read more

The owner, Gene was very helpful in helping my wife "get back on the road" after needing a transmission service.

Brought in our own battery terminal connectors, asked for them to be put on. I would have done this myself however I don't have the tools with me. they charged $158 for these terminal connectors to be put on (typically this job is 20-30 bucks in labor). This is absolutely ridiculous and terrible value. Not sure if they just took advantage of the situation since it was my girlfriend's car but regardless it is a terrible business practice. Not to mention they said they would get it done ASAP but forgot to call when they finished the car, so we had to wait until the day after to pick up the car. I really hope that taking advantage of college students isn't their normal procedure but if it is, I would never recommend this place to anybody in flagstaff. read more

It would have been closer to go to Kingman or Prescott but I read the reviews at this shop and because of my transient history with Flagstaff, I wanted to come here. Took my Jeep in because it was acting up occasionally during start up. Called the dealer and was told I needed to wait a week for an appointment. Called TAG and was able to bring in it in the following day. Unfortunately the car did not fail to start and ran perfectly. TAG tried several times to get it to fail but it started up each time. So they could not fix something that did not fail. When I picked it up TAG waived the diagnostic fee. I found them to be very professional and honest. TAG will now be my go to car guys in the future. It is hard to find an auto mechanic that will give you quality work at a fair price and that is why I will only go to this shop. They will not try to upsell you to try and make more money. If a repair is not needed, they will let you know. When they do repair your vehicle it will be needed and they will do the repair correctly and a great price. Gene at TAG automotive repair was a true miracle for me and my family. My radiator hose came off and I lost all of my radiator fluid. This is a a bad place to be in no matter what, it's worse when you're on a family road trip. I called first thing Monday morning and Gene and Tom saw me straight away. I left the car with them for a few hours and they got everything squared away. Later that day my check engine light came on and I had to go back. They were incredibly helpful when my car broke down pretty tragically and I needed a new alternator while on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. They were able to get my car in the same day-despite the tow truck getting it to the shop after hours-and chose to have it done first thing in the morning so my trip wouldn't be further derailed.
