The website says, they work on diesel trucks. They have no clue about diesels. I will say, Drew the manager is cool, but that's where it stops. I had a fuel sending unit issue. It was a no start after unit replacement. I waited 4 WEEKS for them to fix the issue. They threw a parts cannon at it, changing ficm, icp, removing glow plugs, etc. said my rigid fuel line was leaking, never had an issue with that, and i never approved it, but charged me anyway. they did an OBD scan couldn't find the issue, then said they refuse to work on it. I had it towed to a diesel only shop, it was running in two days. Randy's charged me $800 for labor.(justify that) They were going to charge me $1000 for the unit. I bought the part for $190 and I was pressured to have it shipped overnight. $325 total. I could have saved $130 because it just sat for weeks. Basically I paid over $1000 for that experience, It STILL DIDN'T RUN. In total, $1600 total for a fuel sending unit and IPR sensor. By both shops. read more

My daughters 3 month old car had a loose under car shield. I asked her to stop in the closets garage and have them zip tie it till we can figure out what to do next. Randy's garage took off the entire shield. That would have been fine if they did not destroy all the clips that are $50 at the dealer (yes they are special clips). They also threw the shield into the garbage. What they did is so wrong. They could have taken off the shield and gave it back to us with the clips that were not damaged (only 3 were damaged). read more

Do not go to Randy's unless you want to waste your money paying for repairs that don't fix the actual problem. If I could give less than one star, I would. I brought my vehicle in back in July and was given a long list of repairs. Before agreeing, I specifically asked if they were confident that the $1,800 I was about to spend would fix the issue I originally came in for. Instead of taking my concern seriously, they laughed and seemed annoyed that I was asking questions. They assured me they knew what they were doing. I left, and within two miles the original noise was still there -- and my steering started acting up. I brought it back, and they quoted me another $1,000, saying my ABS system was "toast" and needed to be replaced. After months of saving, I decided to get a second opinion and took it to American Spring & Alignment. Not only was their quote about $400 less than what Randy's had quoted me -- it turns out it wasn't the ABS system at all. I was recommended to Randy's Downtown Garage, but unfortunately I had a really bad experience with them. At first, I called just to ask about the price of an alignment. I was told it would be $150. When I brought my vehicle in, I was told more work had to be done before they could even do the alignment. On top of that, the representative never disclosed there was a $150 inspection fee just to look at the car. That was never mentioned until I was already there. In the end, I paid almost $1,800 just so they could complete the alignment. They told me the job would take 2 days, but it ended up taking almost 4. I honestly don't even think they worked on my vehicle properly. I was not given a copy of the alignment results (before and after), and the car is still making noises when I drive. I even got into an argument with one of the guys there because instead of answering my questions, he tried to diminish my vehicle by saying it had "a lot of problems." Funny enough, there was no problem taking my $1,800, but suddenly my car was the issue. On top of that, I called the shop at least seven times just trying to get a straight answer about whether they could even work on my vehicle. Every time, I was told "we don't know right now." That kind of response just shows how unprofessional and careless they are. The communication was terrible. Calls were ignored, I was not allowed to speak with the manager, and after multiple attempts I never got a call back. Really bad experience -- I do not recommend this shop. The service was unprofessional, communication was poor, and I felt taken advantage of. No transparency with pricing, delays with repairs, and no proof of proper alignment results. Went over some final concerns for my car and agreed we needed to purchase a part I did not bring . Only a two day wait but Andy saved the day by calling me on Wednesday . I'll definitely give them another try in the future for another repair . All in all friendly staff and quality repair but I do recommend making an appointment only and possibly waiting a day or two longer for the repair to be properly fixed . Thanks guys ! Wow! I had been given various recommendations about Randy's garage after being disappointed by two other long-term mechanic businesses in Flagstaff. I requested an oil change and a diagnostic. The oil change was very expensive and the diagnostic was less than helpful. Tyler (who apparently no longer works at Randy's) never got back to us re: an estimate for work recommended from the diagnostic. Maybe it is good he is gone. And Ky (sp?) clearly didn't follow our requests to review notes from the diagnostic and come up with an estimate, as he sent an estimate within two minutes of our request, and clearly just estimated the high end of possible repairs. Was going to Arizona Snowbowl for some snowboarding. Car died while heading up on Snow Bowl Road. I was able to get my car started and go back to town. Called around town and these people said they could look at it today. Keep in mind I have a 20 year old car and parts can be hard to come by. Zoei (I think I misspelled her name) was super nice. She found the parts on the same day. The mechanic got the job done in a timely manner. The price was reasonable. They didn't price gouge me because I wasn't local. I've been a customer at Randy's since, well, since the Original Randy owned it. Let me tell you, the new owner is no Randy in terms of customer service--not by a long shot. These guys won't do jack to troubleshoot a problem unless they first charge you $120 for a diagnostic scan; and even then, there's no guarantee they'll catch the problem--even after charging for the diagnostic. I noticed a radiator leak in my car where the hose attaches to the top of the radiator. The connecting "spout" was slightly cracked. I took in the car and asked to have that piece repaired, and they fixed it. However, the next morning I noticed antifreeze drops on my driveway. I took the car back to Randy's and asked if they could check the repair for a leak. They did and announced the repair was fine, but they then said the lower radiator hose was split at the hose clamp and needed to be replaced. Now here's the sucks part: they charged me $120 for the diagnostic--that is, charged me for merely locating the second leak--and then gave me an estimate for the second repair. I asked them why they didn't discover that second leak when the car was in the bay, and they replied, "You only asked to have the top piece repaired." Really? Like I'm the expert for diagnosing every needed repair. So, after fixing the top part of the radiator the day before, why couldn't those guys fire up the car and at least casually inspect the other hose? Because that inspection would have been free? I'll tell you this, the Original Randy would have looked around and called me while the car was in the bay and informed me that there was a second leak. Not only that, the Original Randy NEVER would have charged for a diagnostic "scam." The scan reads a code, and that points the mechanic in the right direction; the diagnostic scam is nothing but a revenue stream, much like having to pay for checking a bag when you fly. Greed, greed, greed. I will never take my car to Randy's again. read more

We were traveling through Flagstaff when the vibration we were experiencing seemed to be getting worse. We found Randys on yelp with great reviews and gave them a call. We explained the problem and felt strongly that the u-joints were going out. They said they could squeeze us in first thin in the morning. Returning the following morning at 8, they checked the truck out and confirmed the u-joints we in fact fine. Randy discovered the drive shaft is slightly out of balance causing the vibration. Randy also explained that while it may be slightly annoying it wasn't going to cause us car issues during our trip. It's great to find such knowledgeable and honest people. They could have easily charges for new u-joints and we would have happily paid and gone on our way. Thanks for the honest inspection. read more

I made an appointment with the receptionist via phone call, when I got there they said they had no appointment. They took my car in anyway. After lunch I finally got a quote to fix my car. I accepted and waited for them to call and say it was done. A couple hours later I called. They said they didn't do the fix, and I should just take it to the dealer. I picked up my car and they charged me $140 to diagnose even though they didn't fix it. This is BS. If your not going to fix what you found than why charge me. Also note. Receptionist is nice, but you can't hear a word she says. Talks to fast and mumbles. Communication is pretty important for a auto shop. Don't go here. They won't fix what they find, and you won't be able to understand what they are saying is wrong anyway. And they will charge you for nothing. read more

Everything you want to avoid in a mechanic. I was told the clutch replacement would take 3 days. My car was in and out of their shop for 3 months. Every job went well over the quoted time, and they never communicated with me that the job would take longer than expected. They tried to charge me $1000 for remedial work that should have been covered by the warranty. A month later, after putting a second clutch in my car tried to charge me to fix a "broken" clutch pedal assembly that needed no such repairs (confirmed by 2 other shops). They broke part of the steering assembly and some trim pieces during their repair which I now have to pay out of pocket to repair. They are often rude and either unknowledgeable or just like to lie. One of their techs also told me that that pilot bearing isn't a part of the clutch assembly. Unsurprisingly the problem with my car was the pilot bearing. Personally I want to go to someone that knows how the part they're replacing works. They finally gave me a refund after 3 months of wasting my time. I'm not the only one either. I've heard of 4 others who had negative experiences just in my time talking to others about the bad job they were doing. Took the car to Auto Rehab and they fixed it in less than 48 hours and saved me $600. read more

Aaron, the shop owner, told me highly personal details about his employees, rather than just saying they were down a few guys (I'm completely uninterested in knowing that one of your mechanics is in jail). They misdiagnosed the problem 3 separate times. The icing on the cake though was finding that they threw my clothes all over my car, left old food in the back, and drank the beer that I had left in there. They claim not to have done this; if that's true, then they left my car unlocked while it sat in their parking lot. Go anywhere besides this place. read more

Had to stop here while on a cross country trip because my Coolant Reservoir on my Mazda3 developed a crack and coolant was leaking. I was recommended this place by another shop on the east side of town as honest and good people that would do good work. So I called them just as they closed (THEY ANSWERED) and they said to stop by in the morning. I stayed the night in Flagstaff and headed there at 8:30am the next morning. With a busy day on their hands they were able to find room for me after a quick 2hr wait and did the work for $210. Nice and solid work. Wish I had been able to do it myself but it felt like a good shop that could knock out something so super easy. I really appreciated that they were kind and honest here. They had 2 wonderful emotional support dogs inside that just made the experience lovely too! If needed, I'd stop here again first. read more

Cannot say enough about how great our experience with Randy's was! They are simply the best! Our Sprinter broke down Wednesday 09/29, 30miles east of town and had to have it back in Vegas, (our original destination) to leave for a tour with it, on Friday 10/1. We were frantic, but the crew at Randy's assured us they could get it fixed quick. And holy moly did they come through and exceeded our expectations! They were able to get our alternator fixed, our Van back to us fast and everything is working great!! This is the only place in town I take my 97 Tahoe. I stopped by yesterday to have a new serpentine belt installed and Trevor took excellent care of me. He ordered the belt and 15 min later it was delivered, 5 min later he finished the install. He also checked out my brakes as the light keeps coming on and off. We discussed the options and I made an appointment for next week to have him do a brake service. I have over 370k miles on the Tahoe and part of the reason it's still running so strong is the great service it gets! Randy's is an honest shop and will not try to sell you anything you need; instead of creating a long bill of parts that will break the bank, they find the best solution to get back on the road. The staff and owner are always super friendly and knowledgeable. I have had everything done by then, from an oil change to a new clutch, with everything being done flawlessly. Recently I went in the owner Aaron must've been in a bad mood and treated me like the A dog off the streets he cussed at me told me get out of the store and told me never to come back. I threw it off my shoulder as he was having a bad day, but then again I've been in the business were customer service is everything and in this day and age it is everything! We called numerous shops in the area but due to holiday demand couldn't get in. When we called Randy's we were greeted by a very knowledgeable young woman who without hesitation told us to come by and assured us Someone would take a look at the truck. When we pulled up the young woman at the front desk immediately went over options and zoey ran a quick diagnostic test. After we passed the diagnostic test with flying colors we hit the road again chalking the slow start up to altitude issues. The mark of a good mechanic is their ability to diagnose a problem correctly. I brought my Land Cruiser in to be looked at. The owner Aaron put it up on the lift and within a few minutes he knew everything about the car, the way my car had been maintained and the way I drive. He explained what was right and wrong about the truck and gave recommendations on what he thought it needed to be safe and a good daily driver. His estimate of the repairs seemed fair and reasonable. Couldn't recommend enough. I've taken other vehicles to other shops in town just for diagnostics before, only to have the shop keep my vehicle for a week+ and only do the work when I call to ask for a progress update. I dropped my truck off at Randy's this morning, which had a litany of problems including the starter being toast and it randomly stalling at speed, misfiring, weird not-cool noises, tons of stuff. I left my truck at the garage and planned on biking to work for the better part of a week. I was really surprised and happy when I received a call at 4pm saying my truck was ready for pickup. Parts and labor were really reasonable and the work cost less than what I was anticipating. Randy explained what they did and why -- and what work could be done in the future (and why -- he wasn't merely trying to upsell stuff to me), I really appreciated it. I picked it up 8 hours later and it ran like a dream, a far cry from the truck that barely started or ran when I dropped it off in the morning. I rate this garage ONE because there is no ZERO for me to rate!!! I fixed my friend's Grand Cherokee here, they told me the part of my front axle was broken and they will order a new one to replace. HOWEVER!!! When my friend did his service later in the Cherokee dealer after the car was fixed, the dealer told us that the part was actually not replaced!!! SPOILER ALERT: This is the best auto repair shop I have ever experienced anywhere in all my travels. As an uncertified mechanic, I am often asked to repair vehicles for my friends. I spent a few days in Flagstaff to get my friend's '72 Blazer in suitable shape to drive back to Phoenix. The Blazer hasn't been driven in 18 years, and I needed to replace several key parts on the vehicle. I rebuilt the Quadrajet carb, installed new spark plugs and wires, and replaced the brake hoses. But I wanted a professional mechanic to verify that the vehicle was in safe working condition. Randy's is constantly inundated with vehicles to repair, so I had to wait a few days for an appointment, but it was WORTH IT. Trevor brought me a list of everything amiss with repair costs included, from the water pump leak that I hadn't noticed, to the worn universal joints on the 4x4 driveshaft. Dispelling my natural inclination to view all auto shops as untrustworthy, he even brought me under the vehicle on the lift and showed me how to fix the issues myself if I was willing and able. I brought my car in to Randy's for brakes and an inspection. Upon inspection, they identified an oil leak and said it was the oil pan gasket. I had them replace it (~$300). A week later I noticed it was still leaking. I took it in to another shop and they identified the leak coming from higher in the engine (vacuum pump). read more

Babbitt Ford refused to help us - (in our Ford Expedition no less & prior to their closing). We crossed the street to Randy's. HUGE HEARTED MAN! He could not personally assist us but made several phone calls around town to help us. If ever I were in need in Flagstaff, I would take my vehicle to Randy's. I will add to this because Big Doggs Garage is not on Yelp. Randy sent us to Big Doggs Garage off 6th Avenue. Skip & Smokey had already gone home for the night but came back to meet us after getting Randy's call. UNBELIEVABLE! They did quick diagnostic to find problem, called around to find alternator, drove to pick it up & fixed it so we could get on the road! He also only charged us his cost for the part - FORD WOULD HAVE CHARGED DOUBLE I'm SURE. Please please please - take your car to either of these 2 honest local shop owners who still know the meaning of outstanding customer service - and truly genuinely nice people. Skip is honest!
