I signed up for Tahini's rewards program a while back. I was pleasantly surprised to get a message in my inbox saying that I got fries to celebrate my birthday. I could come during the month of July to redeem them. A couple of Saturdays ago, I was in Pickering and wondered if it had a Tahini's. It sure did! I decided to redeem my birthday perk here and order dinner. There was plenty of parking in front of this eatery. I backed into a spot and walked in. There was a family in the corner chowing down. There was a person ahead of me, which was perfect. I could look at the menu to figure out what I wanted. I spotted shawarma ramen. You can get either chicken or halloumi. Cool! A nice man came over after he was done preparing food. I let him know that I had fries as part of my birthday perk to redeem. He nodded. It was my first time redeeming, so I needed his help to guide me through it. I got an e-mail. He said that my perk would have been loaded to my account and he simply needed to scan my rewards barcode. I pulled out my Tahini's app. He scanned my barcode. Done! I also ordered chicken shawarma ramen. I got it mild and for takeout. You can only order it at Tahini's and not ahead of time. I got my barcode scanned again to earn points. I then paid with a credit card. The transaction was smooth. I used the washroom. The single stall that I used was clean and nicely maintained. I sat down while I waited for my order. I can see myself dining in here. It had a relaxed feel. It didn't take too long for my order to be ready. I picked up my paper bag with my food and thanked the man. I then headed to my car, put my food in an insulated bag, and drove home. My food was still hot when I unpacked everything. It's nice that Pickering is next door to Markham, so the drive back decent. I got fries in a bag. It was my first time ever having fries from Tahini's. I liked that there was a light coating of batter. The fries were amazing. I didn't need to put ketchup or find dipping sauce. I loved them. This Tahini's gets full marks for customer service and fries. It's a bit of a gamble trying a fusion of shawarma and ramen. I will give top marks for creativity. I learned from this experience that it needs to be eaten immediately or I need to specify that the broth be in a separate container. The store did not separate the ramen from the broth. When I opened the container, there wasn't any broth. My guess is that the ramen got thirsty and drank the broth all up as I drove home. I essentially had cheesy ramen with no broth. Not horrible. Just weird for someone who was looking forward to a bowl of ramen with broth. The flavours were good. The chicken shawarma had a lot of flavour. The chicken morsels were tender. The ramen was cooked perfectly. I loved the green onions. It had moisture thanks to the ramen absorbing all the broth. I just wanted to have the broth in its natural soupy format. I don't normally have ramen with cheese. I know that it's a thing. I remember a former intern saying that I should have it with some cheese. I'm not a person who craves cheese on everything. It worked with this ramen, but I'd be fine without it. I got my ramen mild. It was indeed mild spice-wise. I may be daring next time and go with the spicy version. I feel the need to return and have the ramen again. A regular bowl will cost you $12.99 but the portion is fairly large. Service is fast and efficient. There are also computer kiosks where you can order. There is some seating inside and a washroom. The Tandoori Chicken wrap was colourful and tasted solid, though the Saj bread was too chewy and dulled the dish. The Korean BBQ wrap had a nice presentation with glossy BBQ sauce and habanero, but the first bite had an odd smell from the chicken that raised concerns. The flavours were strong enough to cover it, and I managed to finish it. Unfortunately, the real issue came later. Within an hour of eating, both my wife and I started feeling uncomfortable, serious bloating and stomach issues that lasted into the night. It's not the type of after-effect you want to deal with after what's supposed to be a signature meal. Tanoor bread on the side was decent - it's just a long flatbread. Raisin juice (zabeeb) tasted like it sounds. The lentil soup was very plain. Otherwise it was ok. After having completed my grocery shopping in Whitchurch-Stouffville, I placed my order through the app, which consisted of these items: - Snack-sized wings in mild sauce (5) - BOGO - Snack-sized chicken plate with salad - BOGO It would take me 25 minutes to drive down to northern Scarborough. My food was ready in 20 minutes, so it all worked out. This eatery is on Nashdene Road. I have a vague recollection of hanging around this area when I was in my late teens until my undergraduate years. My mom worked in this area. When I had my dad's car, I'd pick her up from work and we'd run a bunch of errands, from getting tofu cubes packed in water, to fetching a ton of samosas, all within this area. Lonzo's sticks out like a sore thumb in an industrial-business area. Folks get hungry. Boom! There's Lonzo's. It's a smart move. I oddly did not have any problems finding the place. It faces Nashdene. I parked off to the side next to a fence and parallel-parked. You can also go around each unit and park there. I walked in. There were two male guys there. A chair propped the door open. Its position made me wonder whether I actually do enter or if I stand there. I did the former. I said my name. My order was in a paper bag on the counter. The men didn't seem all that friendly. The one man simply said, "It's here." I said thanks and took it. I also took photos. The other man just looked at me as if I were nuts. I didn't really care. I wished them both a nice day. I got nothing back. It wasn't the warmest interaction. I'm not sure if it was due to a language barrier or if that's who they are. Anyway, I happily put my dinner in my car and drove home. I then chowed down. I had the snack-sized chicken plate. I liked the size. It was perfect. The description on Uber Eats was a bit confusing. It said that this plate didn't include salad, but I was able to select salad as my base. The other base options were fries and rice. The chicken morsels looked good underneath the red and white sauces. I was excited to try this meal. It was delicious. The spicy red sauce wasn't excessively hot, but there was some heat. The white sauce tamed it. I just wish that the white sauce had garlic in it. The chicken was nicely seasoned and juicy. The salad has sliced cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. It was crisp and fresh. I would order this dish again. Luckily, I have another one that I plan to have for lunch on Thursday. I love wings. I could not pass up the BOGO wings deal.
