My friends and I needed to pick up a couple extra things that our air bnb was running low on and saw that Z marketplace was pretty close by. We were impressed by the selection inside covering all the necessities from bathroom supplies to quick deli options and plenty of snacks. Prices were also very fair. We also saw that they had a deli for sandwiches and made pizzas to order so we had to try one, right? The pepperoni pizza was definitely a great choice. The crust was crisp and had a nice chew. Cheese was ooey gooey and they were generous with the pepperoni. It definitely hit the spot after our short hike to get there. Staff was also incredibly friendly and there is a parking lot so that's convenient if you have a car. All in all, it was a great little find! read more

Have shopped here many times during our visits to Tahoe Donner. They're always very helpful. Great selection of whatever you forgot to bring up the hill, or ice cream :) Prices are a little steep - you pay for the convenience of them taking all of this up the mountain. I drive by this place every day and decided to stop in and see what they had. They have a really nice deli counter that has sandwiches, soups, chili and beans, and even fresh drip coffee. A deli case with desserts I met Kim, Gigi and Jayme, all very nice and helpful. The place was Poppin. Nonstop customers and watching the workers just handle everybody's request, get them their needs and still be able to reply with a smile. There was a 3rd person making the food orders that I didn't get a chance to talk to as she was busy fixing all the foods (pretty sure she was the manager) So much packed in this little shop. A convenient little grocery shop if you're staying in Tahoe Donner. Prices weren't insane if you're used to grocery shopping in the Bay. Yes, some items would have been cheaper at Safeway, but I picked up some delicious fresh salsa for $4, that's what ya'd pay in Berkeley. They have anything you'd need for a week of vacation: beer, wine, cheese, spaghetti, frozen foods, limited veggies, meats and so on. People really go for their sandwiches. Although they offer a few other remade items, I went for the Italian style sandwich they offer on their menu. They also have the customize your own if that's more your thing. Great meat to bread ratio. Great meats, and the bread was solid, although it was a soft style roll and I like mine more hard and crisp. Lettuce, onions and tomato are all free add ons, so a great way to get some extra veggies. I believe the Sammy was about $8. Not huge, but definitely more than enough for 1. Protip: pay when you get your sandwich vs the option to pay when it's ready. I chose the later and had to then wait in line twice. read more

This place is worth the drive from the freeway. We came in on September 29 hoping to get a few items for our camping trip and a few sandwiches. They had a nice selection of liquor/beers and the sandwiches they made were delicious. They gave us a box to carry our stuff and we ate at the picnic tables while our pup did her business. The most convenient option for a quick sandwich or bottle of wine if you're in Tahoe Donner - and, fortunately, very very good. The staff is always super friendly, it's easy to park, solid wine and beer selection, and the sandwiches are always freshly made and well prepared. I was in town for the Broken Arrow Skyrace at Palisades and staying at an Air BNB in Truckee. I have very specific things that I want to eat prior to and after running 46k. Great grocery resource in a pinch up in Tahoe Donner. You'll pay a big extra, but on a crowded weekend you can count on Z Mkt to keep your sanity by letting you stay away from Safeway in Truckee. They make tasty sandwiches and bagels and coffees, and their prices on those things are reasonable if not good values. Knowing their TD clientele, they stock some pretty good wines, top shelf liquor and all kinds of chips & crackers. You're not gonna get fixin's for a salad at Z Mkt, because their fruit and veg situation is highly truncated. Eggs, dairy, frozen pizza....think 7-11 upscale with a healthy bent. I can't believe I haven't made a post for z market. I tend to do this often unfortunately though, go to a place frequently and forget to make a review. So the z market is a nice place up in Tahoe Donner. Has some great options for food as well as any snacks or whatever. You know just your regular market. However which shines through is the deli. I can't tell you how helpful it has been in the past to be able to go to the market and get a gluten-free whatever sandwich. They're really good about having gluten free bread on hand. I will be honest it's been a couple months since I've been there but I doubt things have changed. It is a bit pricier because they are up the hill, but you're going to find some stuff that you might not find anywhere else. I husband actually loves it when they have the chicken or egg salads available. Worth stopping in just remember it's going to be a bit pricey compared to the grocery store. read more

Been going here for over 12 years... they always have a smile, just the goods we need to feed hungry families and the home made foods, like the roasted half chicken, is just amazing. For those of you leveling BS 1-star reviews because an overworked local stopped by and forgot their mask after a 13-hour day, GFY. This isn't your neighborhood store, Whole Foods is. I stopped in to the store today. Despite the sign on the door stating that it's a state law that masks must be worn, only 3 out of 8 customers had masks on. Not only did the employees not ask customers to put on masks, one employee made a show of going out to the parking lot to take a "hit" with a friend. Seriously? Ordered a turkey sandwich on wheat, which was soggy, overloaded with mustard, and puny with one piece of turkey. Waited 30 minutes for it and paid nearly $14 since I added sprouts, which costs $1.75 extra!! A soggy mustard sandwich for $14 will ruin your day!! Teenagers working there hated life, and they can't make a good sandwich. It's too bad, this place used to be good. I haven't been here in a couple years and I'll never go back. We stopped at Z Marketplace on our way to Idaho from the Bay Area. They have fresh, ready-made sandwiches that they will warm and panini grill. They were fabulous. My husband had the bacon breakfast sandwich and I had the turkey sausage. Quality ingredients and very filling. We also had an oatmeal cookie that was great. They are located about 3 miles off the main road in Truckee. Worth the stop! read more

This place is great and super conveniently located, if you're staying in Tahoe Donner. The prices are (as to be expected) higher than Safeway but if you need an aspirin, a sixpack of imported beer, a bottle of wine, a fresh sandwich or an espresso, this is the place to go. Everyone is wearing a mask, despite the previous reviews. I think the bigger problem is the patrons who come in without masks. It is NOT the responsibility of working young adults to remind patrons who walk by the LARGE MASK REQUIRED sign to put on a mask. Taking over the old Will's market, it's essentially the same experience. Convenient access to food and drink when you don't want to drag yourself down the hill. I sequestered myself in the woods for a good 40 hours or so without human contact, waiting for the storm. it's good to know that when I do this and run out of supplies I can trod, even through a blizzard. to stock up as needed. read more

So I go here to get a sandwich for lunch nobody's there so I want to order and some people walk up to the cash register behind me so Jack decides to help the customers as I stand there. now there's a few people in line the next set of people come up and looks at me and say why don't you just help the people in line and I will order when they're done, and he says in an extremely rude and snotty tone of voice well if you don't order we can't start the sandwich! So I order my sandwich then he proceeds to help the rest the people in line as I wait he helped everybody in line and didn't start my sandwich ? So why be rude and tell me to order ahead of time if you're not gonna do anything with the sandwich anyway until after you helped all the people??? I told you you should've helped in them in the first place? So Jack DRAGS his way through making the sandwich not sure if he's listening to music or what he's doing but certainly not focused on the task at hand! Not sure how you can forget the condiments but I got a sandwich that had no mayo as I requested it was completely dry! First off, the three stars is for review of the sandwiches only. The good: The people in the store were lovely, very friendly. They have a wide selection of pre-packaged things, tons of wine, beer, and snack food. The outdoor BBQ smelled good but we wanted sandwiches because we planned to eat later at the beach. Now for the bad. We ordered deli sandwiches. They literally had no taste. At first I thought maybe it was just me but daugher and hub had the same reaction. It was downright weird. No taste. We spent $40 on three sandwiches, a bag of chips and giant waters. Daughter and I threw away half our sandwiches. So, if you need a little general store this seems like a great place.
