We drove three hours after calling ahead and being told to bring our dog in. She had suddenly lost the use of her hind legs and was crying in pain. The veterinary assistants were compassionate, caring, and treated her with dignity. They deserve our sincere thanks. We waited patiently for over two and a half hours, understanding that emergency hospitals must triage patients. Then a veterinary technician--not a veterinarian--told us they would not be able to see our dog. I pleaded for one thing: if they couldn't treat her, could a veterinarian at least provide enough pain medication to ease her suffering until we could find help elsewhere? The answer was simply no. So we picked up our helpless dog and drove another three hours home while she whimpered and cried in pain the entire way. No family should have to watch an animal they love suffer like that after being told to come in for care. Emergency medicine isn't just about saving lives--it's about relieving suffering. In our case, compassion seemed to end at the front desk. We left feeling abandoned, heartbroken, and utterly disgusted.

I always worry with dog sitters and leaving her at home or someone else's home that she could get out and get lost or get hurt, but I know she is safe at Canal Bark and is in good hands!! But Northland does have weekend pickup, both Saturday and Sunday. The rates are reasonable and the staff is friendly. We'd recommend Northland to friends and/or strangers that were looking to board their pet. Northland takes dogs and cats but we've only boarded our dog. In our opinion it's a good place.

There was a male working outside near the campsite. He was throwing things and talking loudly, using fowl language. We ultimately decided for the safety of our children who were in the car, to go somewhere else. Luckliy we were able to find another boarding facility near the airport that was much safer.​
