Good lord. I was in Leesburg for work & had a hankering for some chinese on the cheap. I saw the lunch special was for $5.95 and though "oh, cool". I should've known from the get-go this was not a good idea. I ordered the "Paradise Chicken". I went there yesterday .... the lady behind the counter was the unfriendliest person ... no greeting, no smile, just looked pitiful.... my take out was bland and I ordered broccoli with garlic! I will not go there again.... one piece of advice: you MUST have friendly people work for you.... it is essential and when you own a business (especially a restaurant). If you hate your job, quit. First, this place does not seem like a Taiwanese restaurant, even though the name seems to imply it. It was wrong of me to assume that, but it is a bit misleading. To clarify, this is a Chinese restaurant. I went on a weekend and it was nice that they still offered lunch specials, however, I stuck with the dinners. I got hunan pork and crispy beef(?). The crispy (whatever meat it was) was good. It was a bit sweet and a bit savory, which is the best of all worlds. The hunan pork was okay, nothing spectacular. Total came out to about $25. Husband ordered crispy beef (under the chef specialties). There is nothing good I can say about this meal. The rice was hard as a rock. The stickiness and chewiness of the crispy beef was inedible. My fried lo mein noodles were limp and greasy and the shrimp smelled "off." We threw everything away. Oh, forgot the appetizers....Fried dumplings--dough too thick, inside tasteless, dipping sauce no flavor. Teriaki Beef sticks--dry and chewy w/ a thick sugary sauce plopped on top. I have been coming here since I was a child! The prices are great, the staff is so friendly and it is always delicious. :) The only thing is if you are planning on eating in during the lunch rush, you will have to sit on the floor, it is a very cozy. If this is the one by Walmart, we had ordered from here yesterday for lunch. Now, I don't mind repeating myself, once...Maybe twice, but if you continue to not understand (or listen) to what orders are being placed, then there's a problem. That's when I get frustrated, and FRUSTRATED I did get. I am well aware that my tone of voice eventually did not become the friendliest. First and foremost, I know working at retail is not the easiest. I GET that, I work at retail. I had given him the orders I'd like, and what should have been just a minute or 2 minutes of placing an order felt like 20 minutes! I had to eventually start over and give him the orders again TO ONLY HAVE THIS MAN EVENTUALLY HANG UP ON ME ONCE I WAS DONE GIVING MY ORDERS. First of all, how are you going to hang up on me, before asking me if I'd like it as a card or whichever? When the delivery man came, he was also apparently rude (according to my co-workers) stating that he insisted they gave him tip. There was clearly a mix-up because the order I placed (that was hung up) was in his hand and my reorder with the rest of the other coworkers were in his other hand. I had called Taipei again and the same guy who 'helped' me answered. The moment he hears my voice, he has given the phone to another worker there. I had to explain to the lady "the man who JUST picked up the phone is the SAME guy who helped me with my order" stating that I'd like to speak with him. I had to explain to him that he hung up on me and...THIS MAN, the audacity to raise his voice says "YES YOU NO PAY SO PAY' pretty much saying that 'yeah sure I didn't charge you on the card, but you gotta pay." The food was...not great. The noodles had a slight...slimy feel to it? I'm not sure how to explain. THE RICE. Oh......the rice, I'm assuming was either cooked early, EARLY morning or the day before. I admit my wrong by having a horrible tone. However, if you work at retail and you pretty much raise your voice at a customer, don't listen to their wants and needs, and also hang up on them...that's a HUGE problem. I was at the Walmart picking some crap up. I got a whif of the Chinese food across the way. I decided to go in a get some hot and sour soup. At one point they had the 2nd best hot and sour soup in Leesburg. It was right behind mine =) I'm always too lazy to make mine becuase it takes too much time. Anyhow I walked in ordered a hot and sour soup and at it there. First look was the color it was pretty light in color. The color use to be a lot darker. Then I noticed there was hardly anything inside. Very little mushrooms, lots of egg and some bamboo. They did put the green onions on top. I took a sip and about burned my mouth. That was a plus, it was hot, but not spicy wise. It also had a very watered down taste to it. Not sure why they changed their old recipe. That old recipe use to be very good. Oh well if I want good hot and sour soup, I'll just have to make it for myself. I went back a couple other times thinking this was just a bad day, but this trip I think they changed it for good. Taipei Cafe has perfected the art of Chinese food. Your styrofoam container is filled to the brim with food; play your cards right and that meal can last you a good two or three days. It's hot and delicious and it's all thanks to the wonderful cooks (not all heroes wear capes) that Taipei Cafe have scouted like a sports team. Kung Pao Chicken? Chicken Lo Mein? Wonton Soup? All the classics are here and are miles better than any other Chinese takeout in Leesburg, possibly even Virginia.
