We love Taisho! The spicy miso ramen is delicious; and I'm picky about my ramen (it's mostly overrated and lacks flavor), but theirs is yummy! The pork belly is crispy and the broth is spicy and flavorful. My husband gets the soba noodles and Akazaru roll and very much enjoys them. Everything I tried was delicious, (ramen, octopus balls, spicy tuna roll, yellow tail scallion roll, spring roll) and there were menu items that were new to me. I love seeing more than the standard and expected. The extensive menu also has a picture for most items. Of note were the octopus balls I didn't know what to expect: ground, minced etc. They were nice medium sized crispy balls with chunks of octopus. I'd recommend the spicy ramen which was full of flavor but not really spicy. I didn't see a spice bomb as an option or I probably would have ordered that too. read more

I came here for brunch with some of the Yelp squad ladies to check Taisho out, and was pleasantly surprised. The interior was very neat and clean, with dark furniture and a magenta lighted wall with white plants. In the background upbeat Japanese music was playing along with the sounds of the chefs prepping their Hibachi on the left hand side. The menu is rather large, with a multitude of options. In the past people have criticized places for appearing as 'unrefined' if they have menu pictures, but I was thrilled to see photos of what I would potentially be ordering. I have had my experiences with sushi, but the menu goes way beyond that, and the pictures were an aid to people who aren't familiar with the cuisine. The sushi, fried octopus, and spring rolls were delightful. The spring roll came out super hot, with a nice crispy texture. The sushi tasted fresh, we ordered the spicy tuna, yellow tail, and philly rolls. The miso ramen was tasty, with a gorgeous jammy quail egg front and center. It could have been hotter in temperature (and I added some hot sauce to it as well, just a personal preference). This is a cool addition to Henrietta and would recommend people to come here with a group of friends, or for a fun date night. read more

Came here with a few of the ladies I know from The Yelp Squad about a week ago on a Sunday. It's in a strip mall, in Heneritta. They have Sunday Hours a plus. The menu is vast, but to the uninitiated they have photos of all the items on the menu. What was fun one of the ladies spent some time living in Japan and she ordered some interesting food. There is something for everyone.. the Miso Ramen was tasty but I still missed the umami like something was lacking. The Sushi was fresh and well made, the fried spring rolls were actually very tasty. A few missteps with service but they are only open a short time, hopefully that will be corrected. The space is large, warm and modern in design. The restaurant is hidden away in one of the many plazas in Henrietta. I've passed this place hundreds of times while going to LA fitness in the same plaza but never thought to stop in. A coworker suggested it for a team lunch and I took his suggestion. I didn't know what to expect. I was told it was Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is a hibatchi and sushi restaurant minus the show. They don't cook the food in front of you and instead bring it out once it's prepared. The prices for lunch were very reasonable. I got steak and scallops hibatchi. You get either soup or salad, noodles or rice, and then vegetables along with your meat option. The hibatchi was pretty good. I got a NY strip and the steak was a little overcooked. It was tougher than I would have liked. For the price you can't really expect better though. The scallops were cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, you only get 3 medium scallops with the lunch portion. The scallops were the highlight. They tasted wonderful. No fishiness at all, just sweet and savory. A coworker got the dinner portion and his meal included both soup and salad. I believe it also came with noodles and rice. He definitely had more steak and two more scallops. We also order 5 sushi rolls to share. The BBQ eel was my favorite. All of them were suprisingly good. We had the shrimp tempura roll, California roll, spicy tuna, and a tuna roll, and the spider roll (BBQ eel and avacado I believe). They were pretty cheap too. I would definitely recommend this place. I've been coming to Taisho for years and have noticed a steady decline since my first visit. The customer service has always been on the mediocre side but now pairing that with smaller portions and less flavorful food, it's time to call it quits. I went today for lunch with friends and our waitress (listed as Alisa on the receipt) had incredibly subpar customer service skills. She was rushing off during our order and rushing us during our meal with a relatively empty dining room. I ordered the steak hibachi meal medium rare but what I got was an overcooked and chewy steak. I wanted to end my meal with a nice lava cake but got a cold, hard chocolate cake instead. When I pointed out to the waitress it was not correctly prepared, she commented that she microwaved it for the 30 seconds it called for. I asked her to fix the dessert and bring out a correctly prepared one. She comes back 30 seconds later with the same cake which was still not made correctly but now had melted ice cream all over the plate. I was no longer interested and wanted to leave after dealing with this. I told her to take it off of my bill because I wouldn't be eating it. She takes the plate and continues to walk around to her coworkers showing them the ill-cooked cake, laughing, and having a grand time while I'm waiting for an updated check. I call her again asking for a new check since I see her taking orders, going to the back, and talking to coworkers while ignoring me. Needless to say, I will be taking my business elsewhere. Alisa- I hope you get some customer service skills and learn how to do your job correctly. Wow! This is my new favorite sushi place in Rochester . Went with my family and husband . We all got different items , bento box , eel roll, sushi/sashimi for two , and some bbq items (squid and chicken skins ) Wait staff was super nice and knowledgeable when we did have questions . I wanted a dry sake but waitress recommended the "stars" sparkling sake and it was phenomenal ! Sushi was amazing - I got a side order of mackerel as it is one of my favorites , and it didn't disappoint ! Some of the best I've ever had - hands down. Miso soup was fresh and they had their own personal spin on it (it was unlike any other version I've had at other Japanese restaurants, in a good way ) and had these great Japanese mushrooms in it. Salad was great as well with a familiar miso dressing . Dinner bento box was huge ! Super good and super fresh with gyoza , spring rolls , entree (we got chicken teriyaki) rice and cabbage BBQ squid was to die for , seriously order some ! This is by far one of my new favorite sushi spots! I've tried the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, salmon and avocado, tuna amazing roll and best eel roll. The fish is fresh and melts in your mouth. Rice is limited to a small amount allowing you to really savor each bite. Prices can't be beat! Lunch special every Monday-Saturday- you can get 3 rolls and a soup or salad for $11. Best of all, they let you select from a list of over 10 rolls and mix it up as you desire. Price per roll during other business hours range from $4.50-5.50 which cannot be matched anywhere else! I've been here twice and both times have been great! The sushi rolls are so tasty and there are many to choose from. So far I really like the American dream roll. The spicy salmon roll was good, but lacked any spice at all. I have tried the spicy miso ramen and also the taisho special ramen. Although I've tried better in NYC, this is best I've had in Rochester. The broth has a good flavor and the pork belly is so tender and good! It's definitely hard to find good ramen in Rochester (Brooklyn ramen was a disappointment), but taisho fulfills all of my ramen cravings! read more

Taisho Bistro was a pleasant surprise for us. There is a huge amount of diversity in the menu with items from octopus balls, various tartares and tatakis, Sushi and sashimi, ramen, hibashi, and much more. This likely has the largest menu for a Japanese restaurant that I have seen. The dishes are all really well cooked and presented. For appetizers, we tried the softshell crab and the ika maru (squid). They were both really exciting in presentation and taste. For entree we tried the Spicy Miso soup and the Chicken Katsu Don. Aside from needing a bit more salt, I thought that the ramen was pretty good. The noodles didn't quite have a bite as I would have liked, but the broth and the pork were pretty tasty. In terms of the ambiance, the place feels really relaxed and I personally liked the decor although it is a bit dark in the restaurant. Otherwise, service was great and the restaurant was fairly quiet and clean. I fully recommend taking a trip to this place. read more

I have been to this restaurant three times. The first time, along with the other three with me had sushi. The second time, I had a noodle dish. The third time, I had Taisho ramen. I like it here. Everything was cooked great and all food taste fresh! I hate miso soup but the miso soup here was surprisingly good. My boyfriend and I have been here 4 or 5 times now and every time it is amazing. The staff is wonderful, quick, and responsive and friendly. The food is amazing every time. This place has bailed us out of bad restaurant experiences at least 3 times. We were at another Japanese restaurant on South Clinton, and we had waited 50 minutes to be seated and then we decided before we ordered there to try Taisho, it was far but maybe it could redeem the night. Great new place is town. Perfect for large groups of people, as it doesn't (at least in my experience) get too crowded. Some tips - Katsu pork curry -- the ultimate comfort food. Their portion is HUGE, and is always enough for two meals for me. Would definitely recommend. - Octopus appetizer is really delicious, but only comes with six tiny octopus. I wouldn't recommend sharing it with more than 2 people max. - Skip the seared salmon belly. - Ramen is solid. - I've tried their sashimi sampler and one of their rolls. The Miso Ramen was so salty that your eyes watered after the first bite. They were nice enough to replace it with a different dish after we asked. Unfortunately it didn't improve things much. The pork belly was very dry. In the end I wasn't able to finish my food. I find this troubling because I'm really excited about having more varied foods in Rochester. Wow the food is phenomenal!!! I have enjoyed this place for a week straight because I had to make sure they had good food before I share with my friends. Their lunch special on the last page is really delicious they serve salmon, steak, chicken and also accommodate your vegetarian friends. The sushi was fresh OMG just melted in my mouth, and the price was reasonable didn't hurt your pockets to bad.
