Amazing Tuna Roll, Legend Roll, Kami Roll, Tiger Roll, Chopper Roll

I love coming here every time I am in Rochester. The staff and food are delicious. The prices are a little high but it os still one of my favorite places in the area.

    Chicken Katsu

The food is delicious and the place looks and feels amazing. Definitely the best Japanese Cuisine place anywhere around Rochester. Coming back soon for sure.

    Steak Hibachi

They're back open, that's awesome! The food's just as good as before, and the service is great too. I'll definitely be back.

Tried this restaurant in Buffalo and decided to give this one a try. I loved how big the interior was and the decor inside. The service was fast and friendly. Food is amazing, we ordered a bunch of small bites to share and sake bombs for the table. Sushi was fresh and the food was delicious. Would recommend!

Cute place and great ambiance! The food was very delicious and there's so many options on the menu, it's a little overwhelming. I wanted to try everything. Food was very flavorful and fresh.

My first visit left me with mixed feelings. I liked the way their menu was organized, with pictures showing the various foods I'm not familiar with. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and the service is very prompt. Towards the end of the meal, you could tell the servers wanted to go because they kept trying to take our plates that we were still working on. To be fair, it was getting late, but the restaurant was still open for another 40 mins. We got numerous menu items so here is a list of the items and how each tasted. The Seaweed Salad was standard, but the portions were large. The Miso Soup was very bland and there were NO discernible pieces of tofu or seaweed in my entire bowl. Also, there was a piece of carrot in my Miso Soup which made zero sense and made me feel like they accidentally dropped a carrot in my soup. The Baby Octopus Salad tasted fine, but the texture of the octopus seemed a bit mushy, which was off putting. We ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Spicy Crab Roll. Let me say this... the Spicy Crab Roll was FANTASTIC. Probably the best crab roll I've had in the state of New York! I liked that the spicy crispy filling wasn't just a layer on top, but they actually dispersed the crispy part throughout the entire inside of the roll. The flavor was amazing and was hands down the best part of the meal. The Rainbow Roll was very good and I liked the size of the roll. Next came the Miso Ramen and the Chicken Fried Rice. The egg in the ramen was cooked well and the pork was tender. Overall it was good, but nothing special. I wanted to love it because the portion was great and the dish looked tasty, but I just didn't LOVE it. The fried rice dish was another high note of the meal. The chicken was very tender and almost melted in my mouth which I loved. The portion of the rice was impressive as well. Overall, my take away notes: go here for sushi and fried rice. Absolutely do not get Miso soup. Don't go here even and hour and a half before closing because they will try to rush you out and take your food while you're still eating.

    Chicken tempura for the Raman
    Jeff L.

Food was flavorless. Had to add soy sauce to the ramen to get flavor in the broth. The pork bun had mayo and lettuce on it, just simply crazy. The tempura Raman came with a side of fried veggies and two pieces of flavorless chicken, all items tasted of grease. This is definitely not up to snuff compared to the worst places in Detroit.

3.5 stars. Located in a busy shopping center, we had no issues getting a table right away for a weekend lunch. Agree with the extensive menu (and love the pictures which really can help people make a decision). Came here for a lunch special on Saturday. We tried the BBQ squid lunch and the sashimi platter. We were started with the typical salad and one miso soup (which was different than usual miso soups; no tofu and/or seaweed, but there was carrot and daikon in the base). The BBQ squid was similar to the appetizer that they have, just with some kimchi and rice. I wish that they grilled it/had stronger flavor. It was just alright to me. The sashimi was tasty though. Fish was fresh, tender and flavorful. I'll probably come back to try other things on the menu but it did not wow me.

Chicken and rib eye steak hibachi, three rolls and shrimp tempura
    Nader A.

Two stars for their Chicken and Rib Eye Steak Hibachi and that's about it! Somehow I cannot get myself to enjoy sushi when it's not made by good Japanese sushi chefs or those who are trained by them. And it is so obvious that Taisho Bistro is not an authentic Japanese restaurant and their chef(s) is not trained well. Thank goodness cooking Hibachi dishes do not require such training. We ordered a Hibachi dish as well as shrimp tempura and three rolls: salmon/avocado, Phily and shrimp tempura rolls. Let's start with their shrimp tempura. It combined two shrimps with four pieces of vegetables all made in tempura style and served with a sauce. It was lacking the lightness and authenticity of tempura. Instead they were heavily coated and very oily. The rolls were not oily but not great either. We selected two side salads which our server forgot to bring. We took the two salads home. Each salad consisted of a little iceberg lettuce, one cherry tomato and a small piece of carrot. The sauce was Thousand Island with something mixed into it. Prices are okay if the food was authentic Japanese, but we know that is not the case. Apparently, Taisho is owned by three individuals, Chinese. Well, at least one co-owner is Chinese: Andy Huang. Ownership is not the issue. The issue is they don't have good Japanese or Japanese trained chefs making the food. So, I will be waiting for Shiki to reopen.

American Dream Roll, Kami Roll, Legend Roll and Akazaru Roll. They were OK. Legend was the best.

We were seated quickly on a Wednesday night around 6pm. We immediately knew what we wanted and ordered 2 garden salads, the rocky shrimp appetizer and 4 speciality rolls. The salad and app came out relatively quickly but our server was so quick all night that when she stopped at our table we were never able to ask for things like forks or more napkins. Garden salads were your basic Japanese salad but actually very big! The rocky shrimp was our absolute favorite but I wish it was a bigger size because for $10.95 you get about 12 small sized shrimp. The 2 rolls I was super excited for was the Legend roll (lobster topped with seared scallops) and Akazaru roll (tempura shrimp topped with seared steak). The legend roll was good but the flavors didn't really blow me away. It had a nice kick to it from the jalapeño and siracha. The Akazaru roll was a major disappointment, the steak was essentially raw... it was not appetizing at all and all you could taste was the butane smokiness from the crème brûlée torch they used. The other 2 rolls we got were basic, and kind of flavorless. The service was meh, food was OK and the bill was $100. I expected more for what we paid for but at least the rocky shrimp was delicious. All and all, we probably wouldn't come back.

Tried this place on a whim and I couldn't have been more pleased. Was greeted and seated quickly. The food was served in a timely manner and was delicious. Had Takoyaki for my appetizer and Best Ed for my entree. First time trying both and was not disappointed.

Spicy tuna roll, f22 roll, Spider Roll

Came here not expecting much, as soon as I got my first item, the gyoza, I knew it was going to be great. We also got side fried rice and side noodles which were great. Finally we got the spider roll, f22 roll and spicy tuna rolls and were blown away. The food was priced well and the servers were great too. I would recommend this place to anyone !!

I honestly thought if I went behind the bar right now not one person who worked here would notice. We were on vacation and sat at the bar. There was a manager doing computer work at the bar too. She did everything but tell us to leave. For 15 minutes, no one came over to us. Manager sees us many times, doesnt say let me get someone. Not a smile. Not a, here's a glass of water while I find the bar tender. Then when we did get someone it was clear that if we had questions they would be avoided like the plague. I asked a few times about the mayo--hate it. Id prefer to taste the fish. I was assured there wasnt mayo. It came drenched in mayo. $16 dollar roll that we didnt touch. However, the sushimi and nigiri was really fresh and rhe rice was perfect. Mackerel is one of my favorites and it was briney, bright, and sweet at the same time--excellent! But id never ever go here again. You can read my other reviews. I only dog on places when it's truly bad. My spouse was also a long time server (some at Uchiko) so we tip too much and bend over backwards to give servers our best attitudes. This felt very much like a manager/owner issue. Shame.

The food is pretty good, too, but the pictures and information aren't always accurate. For example, the salmon cheese roll includes avocado and tobiko according to both the picture and the description (so basically a Philly roll), but my order only came with the salmon and cream cheese. Fortunately I didn't get the food waste penalty. The appetizers are great. I had calimari, shrimp, and crab rangoon. The rolls are pretty good, too, apart from the aforementioned disappointment. The drinks are good, but I was disappointed plum wine wasn't on the menu even though one of the cocktails includes plum wine. I never did get a visit from the robocat. Probably the most expensive all-you-can-eat sushi establishment I've been to, but fine for an occasional treat.

I've visited Wind enough times, both for dine-in and takeout, to feel comfortable giving a detailed…read morereview. Dining In: 3 Stars The strongest part of this restaurant is the food itself. The flavors are good, portions are good (has per piece option for AYCE), and most dishes taste fresh and enjoyable. - this part deserves a 4-5 stars Unfortunately, the dine-in experience doesn't match the quality of the food. Presentation is often underwhelming and inconsistent. While the food tastes good, it is not always presented in an appealing way, which takes away from the overall dining experience. I'd rate the presentation closer to 2 stars. Service and execution can also be inconsistent. There have been multiple occasions where items were forgotten or missed entirely. While these issues may seem minor individually, they add up over time and affect the overall experience. I'd rate punctuality/ service at 2-3 stars Cleanliness: 3-4 Stars Another area that could use improvement is cleanliness. From my experience, the dining area is generally acceptable, but the restrooms are often not maintained to the same standard. On multiple visits, the bathrooms have appeared dirty, and the trash bins have frequently looked full or overdue for emptying. While it hasn't been bad enough to make me leave, it is noticeable and does affect my overall impression of the restaurant. Takeout: 1 Star for Timing, 5 Stars for Packaging Ironically, the presentation of takeout orders is consistently better than what I've received while dining in. The packaging is neat, organized, and the food generally arrives looking exactly as expected. For takeout presentation alone, I would give 5 stars. However, the timing of takeout orders is consistently disappointing. I've ordered takeout multiple times, and almost every time I've arrived at the scheduled pickup time, the order has not been ready. Delays of 30-40 minutes seem to be the norm rather than the exception. My most recent experience was particularly frustrating. I placed my order about an hour ahead and selected a 6:00 PM pickup time. When I arrived on time, I was told the order would require another 40+ minutes. When I asked why, I was informed that the kitchen doesn't begin preparing takeout orders until the scheduled pickup time. That explanation makes no sense to me. If a customer orders an hour in advance and selects a pickup time, the expectation is that the food will be ready around that time. Otherwise, the pickup time is really just the time the restaurant starts working on the order. Delays can happen, especially during busy periods, and I would be understanding if this were an occasional issue. Unfortunately, after multiple takeout orders, this appears to be a recurring pattern. The food quality is the reason I've continued coming back, but good food alone can only compensate for so much. Between the inconsistent dine-in presentation, missed items, cleanliness concerns, and repeated takeout delays, the overall experience falls short of what I would expect. There is definitely potential here, but the restaurant needs to improve its execution, attention to detail, and respect for customers' time. Would recommend going to the Niagara Falls, Ontario location instead.

My friends both ordered the seafood tempura thinking this would be the size of a meal or at least include rice. Everything I ordered was about 3-4 bites of food, the sushi was 6 very tiny pieces. The sushi was good and if I ever went back I'd order more. The jelly fish was crunchy and interesting and I ordered it for the experience so I enjoyed it. I was very happy with my meal, but also happy to taste some other items we got to share. Edamame always seems like a good way to start a meal...these were overly salted for my liking. The scallion pancake was okay...a little small with just four thin pieces. More successful were the namesake dumplings. I really liked their versions of Xaio Long Bao - both the original pork and shrimp varieties contained delicious broth and fillings. We also shared the pork and chive dumplings, beef dumplings, and pork and corn dumplings...and we would order all of them again! The orange chicken was also an enjoyable dish to share, and good way to add some variety to the plethora of dumplings. I'm sure they get a lot of young customers from RIT and UofR, and the music catered more to this audience - it was a bit loud for my preference. But, service was very good and it is a fun casual environment to enjoy some good, reasonably priced chow with friends!
