Came on a Friday night at 445 were sat immediately, there was noone else there. The workers were very nice and helpful. They have music playing which might be one level too high but its fun music. There is also a giant screen playing the sports channel with subtitles. Our booth had a wall plug for 3 prong and 2 usb ports. The menus are nice as they have pictures of all the food, though the special sushi rolls are the only thing with descriptions. Overall the atmosphere is very fun and cool. We ordered the Miso Ramen and the Taisho Ramen. The pink and white swirl is a fish cake which we went without. The Ramen was okay, it didn't havr much flavor. I've had way better elsewhere, though it haven't had Ramen in Buffalo so I don't know how it compares here. read more

I drive by this restaurant on Hertel many times but this was the first time I visited it. I don't remember the last time I had Japanese food, for sure it has been a while. They have a nice list of Japanese beers, I picked the Coedo Shikkoku, a black lager. Lagers are often a bit bland but this was a really nice beer. In the meantime I studied the menu. All choices are pictures and give you a good idea of the dish. Missing is a description, so we had to ask the waiter for some info. I picked the shrimp teriyaki ramen. It's a big bowl of noodles with sweet corn and chives in a very tasty broth. The shrimp came on a separate plate. I think you are supposed to put the shrimp in the ramen bowl, but they still had their tails on (why???). I ate them separately. They were very tasty and well seasoned. Kid free on a Sunday night again and I was looking for a place i haven't tried that i would feel comfortable at rollin solo. So I decided to check out Taisho Bistro. They had a wide array of sushi...unfortunately I wasn't in a sushi mood but thankfully they had other options. I started off with chicken skewers, they were seasoned well with a nice sauce. Next I had lychee drink, I can't remember what it was called but it was perfectly balanced. Filled to the top, not overly sweet paired with fresh lychee. For my entree, I ordered teriyaki steak Ramen with a side of Katsu chicken. I was surprised that the steak was served on the so the Ramen wasn't as flavorful as I thought. When paired together it was very tasty !! The katsu chicken tasted like traditional katsu which was good. Lastly I paired it with matcha cheesecake. This cheese cake was sooo pretty, tasty and slightly firm. Overall this was a fun experience and I return i will make sure to check out sake because they had a pretty huge list !! read more

I have not had Japanese cuisine in a long time. Friends suggested this restaurant so we gave it a try. The menu has many, many enticing pictures of their dishes; unfortunately there is no description under each picture so we had to ask the waiter about each item we were interested in. I finally picked the Katsu curry chicken. It comes with either a small bowl of miso soup or a salad. I picked the salad, which was mostly iceberg lettuce with ginger based dressing. The main dish was a piece of boneless chicken coated in a Katsu(similar to bread crumbs or Panko) coating. It was already sliced so no knife was needed. There was a generous serving of plain rice and a bowl of sauce with a couple of potato wedges in it! The potato wedges were very flavorful. The sauce could be poured over the rice or the chicken. I did both. As generous as the bowl of the warm sauce was, it was not enough to coat all of the rice and chicken. Even eating the chicken without sauce, there was not enough sauce to flavor the plain, white rice. It was the only negative of this tasty meal. read more

I've always loved their original location on Sheridan, so I wanted to try a change of scenery and came here. The food is still great, and the atmosphere is really enjoyable. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, making sure we had what we needed throughout the meal. Just a heads-up--if you have any food allergies or avoid certain things like pork, be sure to ask about the soups and broths, since it's not listed on the menu. The salad dressing was soaking the salad literally a puddle at the bottom but I didn't think to get a photo. The hibachi noodles were hot but the filet mignon wasn't really. The chicken was dry. My husband and I were here last night and we had a nice time. We were seated promptly. It was, unfortunately, kind of dead for a Saturday night at dinner time. Our waitress was very sweet and personable. She took our drink orders (Shirley Temple for me, an old fashioned for my husband) and left us for quite some time after that. I could see her at the bar though, as we were sitting right next to it. She did eventually start on our drinks and dropped them off at our table, taking our orders as she did. My husband got the Chicken Katsu bento box and I ordered a Spider roll and eel avocado roll. Both were good, though the eel avocado tasted kind of fishy. My husband asked for salad for his bento box and received miso soup. I told him to tell our server about this issue but he never complains at restaurants. I didn't want to embarrass him, so we both said nothing. Out waitress took a whole to get us the check, too. We eventually asked for it and got it shortly after that. The decor in there is really cool and full of neon. It's good that they have a second floor as well, though it wasn't being used when we were there. this is one of my go-to restaurants. their sushi is awesome and i love getting the love boat with my fiancé. we probably finish that whole thing in 15 minutes because we love it so much. i enjoy how much variety you can get with appetizers as well. they have some pretty unique stuff! i've heard from friends that they've gotten sick here before, but in my experience, i've always had good, fresh food. as always, just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt! the staff is also super nice which is a great bonus read more

First time here since they moved into the space. Good location. We started with Goyza and Takoyaki. Both were good. Especially the sauce on the Takoyaki. We split special rolls for the table and some sashimi eel. Bibumbaq roll, Tuna Amazing roll, Legend Roll, Best Eel roll, Taisho Roll and the Viper roll. All were good. Here we go ..... I ordered our food by phone & the gentleman was very nice. He said it'd be ready in 15-20 min. We got there around 9:30pm & I went in to get the food. The restaurant was smaller than it looked from outside. The employee was very nice who was getting my food together. The check came to $42.?? All we ordered was : 1- Spicy Miso Ramen 1- order of Gyoza & 1- Chicken Katsu Curry I think that is a lot of money, but that's me. Plus, they are very small portions, especially compared to Sato Ramen & Sato. The Spicy Miso, the ramen was very undercooked,hard & chewy. It was like a solid brick on the bottom of my bowl. The Pork however, was freaking AMAZING !! So good ! Can't complain at all about that. The chicken Katsu curry was just "fine" at best. The Gyoza was yummy !! Again, I'm gonna chalk it up as being close to closing & just rushing our food. I'll try again sometime during the day. If I'm not impressed next time, I'm sticking to Sato Ramen. read more

Their lunch special is the way to go. Get 2 or 3 sushi rolls with a soup or salad starter for less than $20. I've also had the chicken yaki soba and katsu don were both delicious dishes. The space is HUGE. They have a massive projector behind the U shaped bar. So happy sushi has arrived on Hertel, and what excellent sushi it is (raman, hibachi, and other cousine, too). I saw the building at the end of summer when we were participating in the Miyazaki chalk festival at North Park Theater after we already ate (and I don't think it had opened yet) and I was so excited. I could be wrong, but I think this is the only two-story restaurant with similar cuisine in the WNY area. Very cool venue. We only wish they opted for softer lighting because the harsh yellow bulbs did not do the food justice. The center of the soft boiled egg in my raman looked grey but tasted (and photographed) just fine. Avoid the chicken appetizer unless you have a picky eater because my husband said it just tasted like tempura nuggets with mayo. Otherwise everything we ate tasted great at competitive prices. He had the chicken and steak hibachi dinner. I tried a piece of his steak. It was tender and juicy. I had a volcano roll (white fish, crab, avocado, cream cheese fried and drizzled with spicy mayo and tobiko) and spicy miso ramen (without corn or cabbage). So good. In the ramen, the noodles have the most kick. The pork belly was juicy. Perfect dish for a chilly night. The volcano roll had everything I want in a speciality roll. Just the right amount of crunchy creamy flavorful goodness. And they're generous with the wasabi, which other places have been stingy with lately. Even the plum wine blew me away. It had the expected sweetness but the added dimension of spicier notes (not hot spicy, just spicy). Service was thoughtful and attentive. Can't wait to go back. read more

Taisho Bistro has filled a much-needed gap in the realm of sushi on Hertel Ave! I was super stoked to learn they were opening up another location closer to me. I've eaten at their Amherst spot before, and I've always been pretty happy with what they've had to offer. I decided to give them a shot for a quick takeout dinner. My food was ready within 20 minutes of ordering, which to me, is a pretty decent turnaround time! I had their wasabi shumai as a quick appetizer and let me tell you -- this dish is not for the faint of heart. It was absolutely delicious, but the wasabi flavor is there in full-force, so don't order if you can't handle heat well. I also got a spicy tuna roll and a basic salmon roll which were pretty standard, but still tasty! They are a little on the pricy side for sushi, but I'm still thrilled we have another option for Japanese fare in the Delaware Ave area. I will definitely order from them again! read more

It pains me to write this review as I have always "LOVED" Taisho since they opened. Over the yaers there have been a few glitches but nothing that shook my love for this restaurant. Unfortunately tonight changed that for me. First, it was very cold insode the restaurant, my wife along with several of the other few diners had to keep their jackets on. It took just over 15 minutes to be served our drink order. While all our appetizers were as good as always, Takoyaki, Wasabi Shumai, Ika Maru and Shrimp Tempura, the sushi was meh and the waiter messed up our order, which we did not correct. We ordered 2 eel and avocado rolls, 1 yellowtail and scallion roll, 4 pieces of tuna sushi, 2 pieces of scallop sushi and 2 pieces of tamago sushi and 2 pieces of wasabi tobiko sushi. What we received was 2 yellowtail rolls which the quality was not great, 2 pieces scallop and wasabi tobiko and 2 pieces Masago not tomago. We did get our eel and avocado handrolls and they were delicious but everything else was just meh. I am certain I will give them a chance to rdeem themselves and I hope they do. read more

Service was excellent very quick very easy since there's no one in here. We ordered two salads, a sushi app, and three rolls. Along with huge Sapporo draft beers! Kani salad and seaweed salad were fabulous. The rolls are another story. We had the volcano roll, the spicy salmon roll, and the spicy tuna roll --and they're all disgusting mush. I can't even eat them- what a fail. Spoke to management and they would not refund me. They offered to cook me something else. Why would I want to eat anything else if I'm turned off by the food! Don't try it here. Go to other places in Buffalo that are much more accommodating and better food exists. read more

Went here with a whole group of friends... we had reservations, but the restaurant seemed unprepared for the group... they were not short staffed as far as there were many employees standing around, but the service was extremely slow today... I was so hungry for my food by the time it arrived that I didn't take photos... The seaweed salad was tasty, and the spicy seafood soup was pretty good, having mussels, shrimp and scallops in it... it was a little greasy, but overall, it was OK... I probably will not go back here because I feel there are better sushi/hibachi places in the area. read more

Love what they have done with the ambiance, it's much more cozy and welcoming than the previous restaurant at this location was. The lighting is very nice. The service is impeccable! Beautiful food presentation too. I had hot sake, a spicy salmon roll, and vegetarian tofu soba udon. Everything was super delicious. Only thing is that my dining companions both had soup (miso and ramen), which I tried, and both had an aftertaste I wasn't a fan of. The location is of course great and they had a lot of staff working. One person with us also had their hibachi food come out 15 minutes later than the rest of us which put a damper on the meal a bit. Overall the food was good but not great, we've just had better buns ramen and kaarage chicken at other places like sato and misuta chows. We wanted to have them here since we love them all so much and it just didn't compare well. I would say the sushi was delicious and the hibachi was good when it finally came out. My favorite ramen spot in Buffalo! All the broths are so flavorful and the bowls are packed with noodles, meat and toppings. My husband and I always split the pork gyoza before our ramen arrives. They are always perfectly cooked with a crispy bottom and the dipping sauce is good enough to drink! This location has always impressed and Taisho fits in nicely as the newest business here. We asked if it was too close to the closing to eat and the hostess told us "yes it is too close and you would be an inconvenience for us". Deciding on a place to go for a birthday dinner was hard, but we are glad we picked Taisho. Our server was immaculate. The place resembles an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant just as much as it resembles a sports bar. Great big screens with great sound to watch the game. Even though we had to wait a little longer than we would've liked for our food, it was absolutely delicious. Dessert was also very good. The former Mac's on Hertel has now been converted to a Japanese/sushi spot . A group of us girls had dined there this past Friday and I think we all left full and satisfied . I do wish they had the actual Hibachi grills for dinner and a show , but we were at least able to order those kind of dishes from the menu . I was able to request that my fried rice to be made without onion . The scallops were a decent size and cooked nicely . The temperature of the restaurant was a bit chilly , I think it was because we were seated near the window . I was considering dessert , but the server couldn't understand my question as to if there was coconut in the fried ice cream dish -I took that as a sign that I didn't need it . She did, however, do separate checks for us as a last minute request . A decent spot if you are in the area , but it is pretty much your standard Japanese cuisine -nothing fancy ! read more

Take my review with a grain of salt... I'm one of those insufferable food snobs! But know this: atmosphere is top notch! Go with a group and you guys will have a bangin' time... it's kinda sports bar meets izakaya. Cool decor. Plenty of space. There's an upstairs. After a pleasant visit to Revolution Studios to view the current display of photos by May Pang, my husband and I with another couple went to Taisho Bistro Japanese restaurant. Each couple ordered a hibachi dinner and special roll to split. Our hibachi dinner consisted of a salad, miso soup, small shrimp appetizer, noodles, fried rice with vegetables and grilled shrimp. The special roll we ordered had spicy tuna, eel, salmon and tempura shrimp topped with thinly sliced jalapeño. My husband drank Sake and I had a Tropical cocktail. The food was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful. This was our first experience at this location on Hertel. We are planning to go to the location on Sheridan Drive soon. read more
