The plate setting when you arrive

I drive by this restaurant on Hertel many times but this was the first time I visited it. I don't remember the last time I had Japanese food, for sure it has been a while. They have a nice list of Japanese beers, I picked the Coedo Shikkoku, a black lager. Lagers are often a bit bland but this was a really nice beer. In the meantime I studied the menu. All choices are pictures and give you a good idea of the dish. Missing is a description, so we had to ask the waiter for some info. I picked the shrimp teriyaki ramen. It's a big bowl of noodles with sweet corn and chives in a very tasty broth. The shrimp came on a separate plate. I think you are supposed to put the shrimp in the ramen bowl, but they still had their tails on (why???). I ate them separately. They were very tasty and well seasoned. I really enjoyed my taste of Japan.

Kid free on a Sunday night again and I was looking for a place i haven't tried that i would feel comfortable at rollin solo. So I decided to check out Taisho Bistro. They had a wide array of sushi...unfortunately I wasn't in a sushi mood but thankfully they had other options. I started off with chicken skewers, they were seasoned well with a nice sauce. Next I had lychee drink, I can't remember what it was called but it was perfectly balanced. Filled to the top, not overly sweet paired with fresh lychee. For my entree, I ordered teriyaki steak Ramen with a side of Katsu chicken. I was surprised that the steak was served on the so the Ramen wasn't as flavorful as I thought. When paired together it was very tasty !! The katsu chicken tasted like traditional katsu which was good. Lastly I paired it with matcha cheesecake. This cheese cake was sooo pretty, tasty and slightly firm. Overall this was a fun experience and I return i will make sure to check out sake because they had a pretty huge list !!

I have not had Japanese cuisine in a long time. Friends suggested this restaurant so we gave it a try. The menu has many, many enticing pictures of their dishes; unfortunately there is no description under each picture so we had to ask the waiter about each item we were interested in. I finally picked the Katsu curry chicken. It comes with either a small bowl of miso soup or a salad. I picked the salad, which was mostly iceberg lettuce with ginger based dressing. The main dish was a piece of boneless chicken coated in a Katsu(similar to bread crumbs or Panko) coating. It was already sliced so no knife was needed. There was a generous serving of plain rice and a bowl of sauce with a couple of potato wedges in it! The potato wedges were very flavorful. The sauce could be poured over the rice or the chicken. I did both. As generous as the bowl of the warm sauce was, it was not enough to coat all of the rice and chicken. Even eating the chicken without sauce, there was not enough sauce to flavor the plain, white rice. It was the only negative of this tasty meal.

I've always loved their original location on Sheridan, so I wanted to try a change of scenery and came here. The food is still great, and the atmosphere is really enjoyable. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, making sure we had what we needed throughout the meal. Just a heads-up--if you have any food allergies or avoid certain things like pork, be sure to ask about the soups and broths, since it's not listed on the menu. Other than that, everything was wonderful--I'd definitely go back!

For the life of me I can't remember what this place was before it was a sushi bar. I wasn't completely convinced or blown away by this place. The bento box was good but I wasn't excited about the app we got. It was mushy. Maybe it was a texture thing. The menu is huge so I'd try something else. They have a very extensive selection of sushi. Service was great and fast. Plenty of tables

Chicken hibachi with extra veggie and no rice

Well. It's convenient and good vibes, but the flavors seemed bland and everything was very wet. We both got the hibachi dinner meal. The salad dressing was soaking the salad literally a puddle at the bottom but I didn't think to get a photo. The hibachi noodles were hot but the filet mignon wasn't really. The chicken was dry. I mean it was fine but if I want hibachi I'll go to Kyoto 2 on Maple even though we live close. We got extra veggies instead of the fried rice- our pictures show that we ate most of it!

Such a wonderful eat-in experience. We happened in on a Saturday evening at like 6p-ish, so the non-parents were not yet out for the evening. We sat quickly, and our server was incredibly attentive. We asked questions and got quick follow-ups. All the food was delicious, and the evening was relaxing and pleasurable in all ways.

First time here since they moved into the space. Good location. We started with Goyza and Takoyaki. Both were good. Especially the sauce on the Takoyaki. We split special rolls for the table and some sashimi eel. Bibumbaq roll, Tuna Amazing roll, Legend Roll, Best Eel roll, Taisho Roll and the Viper roll. All were good. Especially the ones with crispy toppings! Our server was so nice and attentive as well. Definitely a good experience and will be returning.

I'm not sure I'd we just have such great Japenese food in the area that this just didn't do it for me. Thought it was flavorless and just blah. The noodles were overcooked and just real gummy and sticky.

This place was really good. The location was convenient and the ambiance was so soothing. Glad my friend suggested this spot in Buffalo NY. Stopped in for brunch.

Here we go ..... I ordered our food by phone & the gentleman was very nice. He said it'd be ready in 15-20 min. We got there around 9:30pm & I went in to get the food. The restaurant was smaller than it looked from outside. The employee was very nice who was getting my food together. The check came to $42.?? All we ordered was : 1- Spicy Miso Ramen 1- order of Gyoza & 1- Chicken Katsu Curry I think that is a lot of money, but that's me. Plus, they are very small portions, especially compared to Sato Ramen & Sato. The Spicy Miso, the ramen was very undercooked, hard & chewy. It was like a solid brick on the bottom of my bowl. The Pork however, was freaking AMAZING !! So good ! Can't complain at all about that. The chicken Katsu curry was just "fine" at best. The Gyoza was yummy !! Again, I'm gonna chalk it up as being close to closing & just rushing our food. I'll try again sometime during the day. If I'm not impressed next time, I'm sticking to Sato Ramen.

Their lunch special is the way to go. Get 2 or 3 sushi rolls with a soup or salad starter for less than $20. I've also had the chicken yaki soba and katsu don were both delicious dishes. My friend ordered the hibachi and the portion was huge! Service is good, meals and drinks come out prompt. There's plenty of space in the booth for seating. They also have a large projection screen they air different sports games and such on.

The food here is always great. Decent prices as well. They have a wide variety of beers as well. The waitresses are always willing to swap certain kinds of shashimi that I don't like. The space is HUGE. They have a massive projector behind the U shaped bar. Only issue I have, is there can be 4 tables filled in the restaurant, and the hostess always seems to sit everyone right next to eachother. But I'll still be back this month.

Lowering your expectations is also a good approach. The place was packed on Saturday evening, but we still got a table right away. It was located at the back of the room, next to the cash registers. Next time, I would definitely prefer to wait for better seating. Did I overeat? Yes, I did, but no regrets, and I would do it again :). The cucumber and kani salad were very good. We tried all three sushi appetizers. Beef gyozas and shrimp tempura from the kitchen appetizers section were yum. The tempura was pleasantly crunchy, and I almost ordered more. Our favorite things were classic rolls, salmon and yellowtail. The least favorite were the Classic Roll with Spicy Salmon and the Queen Roll with spicy tuna. No offense, but I thought spicy salmon and tuna that evening were pretty bad with absolutely no taste. I compared it to eating sawdust, but actually I've never eaten sawdust, so it was kind of mean from my side. We liked the flavors in general. The Christmas, the Rainbow, the Hollywood and the Dancing Crab (the most handsome) rolls were all very tasty. Perhaps due to the restaurant's high volume, some of our food was prepared very sloppily. I can only imagine how quickly all the chefs had to work to fulfill all the orders. They still should maintain some standard, in my opinion. Well, that's the consequence of visiting during the busiest time of the week, I suppose. Our server, Anna, was really pleasant. She thanked us for ordering extra sashimi for additional cost (still low). She also complimented the way we were ordering. My dining companion knew what to choose from the menu, and we gave her a longer list of dishes so Anna didn't have to check on us as often. It just worked out perfectly for us. Oh! There was this guy helping with the food service. He was probably in training, or maybe just filling in, or maybe just helping out on the weekends. His mood and attitude were pretty bad, but my companion said I should be more relaxed about it ;). Anyway, I'll be back. We had a lot of fun. Someday, I'd like to order from the regular menu for comparison. Maybe the special rolls are bigger and look tidier? The Sushi Queen is a good place to check out for an affordable dining experience.

On Sunday around seven, the restaurant was practically empty. Sushi boats typically contain sashimi, nigiri, and at least two special rolls selected by the chef. The Titanic at Ichiban comes with a Christmas Roll (spicy crunchy tuna, avocado, red tobiko) and a Honado Roll (tempura fried roll with spicy tuna, avocado, cream cheese). We asked whether it's possible to have a roll without cream cheese. It turned out we couldn't substitute the Honado Roll. So, we asked just to omit the cream cheese. A while later, our server came back with a proposal: for an extra charge, we could choose any other roll we wanted. By that time, we decided to have the original version of the Honado Roll with cream cheese. So, there was a bit of a hitch right at the start. With the Titanic boat, you choose between a miso soup or a salad. The soup was too salty but generally tasty. Now, very briefly about the sushi itself. We enjoyed almost everything. The Christmas Roll was very good. The salmon was superb. The fried Honado Roll came without the cream cheese, and I thought it was the least tasty sushi roll I have ever had. The shrimp nigiri were definitely a disappointment as well. Our server was pleasant and tried to be helpful from the beginning. Later, strangely, she came over to our table right in the middle of our conversation, while we were still enjoying our meal, and asked if we needed a container for leftovers. Leftovers?! I immediately thought the restaurant was about to close and that we had overstayed our welcome, but that wasn't the case. She brought us the bill right after that, even though we hadn't asked for it yet. So, for some reason, she simply tried to speed up our exit. I'm sure Ichiban serves very good food (we saw takeouts being prepared), but I won't be going back soon, definitely not for a Titanic. One more thing, and it's definitely a downer. We received twelve pieces of nigiri instead of fourteen. I only noticed it later, while looking through the photos.
