I have only been here once but both items I ordered I LOVED. The woman at the register was very kind and helpful although this place is BUSY! She recommended that I try Dahi Puri and I also ordered a mysore masala dosa with medium spice because she insisted that spicy was VERY spicy. I ordered to go and they gave me a buzzer to redeem for my food. Dahi Puri was AMAZING! I had never tried anything like it and now I am addicted. It doesnt make you feel heavy after you eat it. This is truly amazing Indian food. Forget about characterizing it as "vegetarian." It doesn't matter. The food is so awesome, so awesomely seasoned, that even if you're a confirmed meat eater, you won't miss the meat. I promise. I'd tell you what I ate, but I honestly don't know. I needed help with the menu, and the guy working as the cashier was extraordinarily helpful. He basically learned a few facts about what kind of foods we like, then planned a lunch that was delightful. Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly prepared. Perfect. For people who would come with expectations about the chat taste same as u would get in India, I would say i m sorry. Its a OK place.

we were in Dallas 200 mi away from our place. Based on yelp reviews we went there. first impression : horrible ambiance , dirty table, hot - no very hot inside. I asked one employee about AC, he said i just work here so can't comment about it. no one to help you. it was more like DIRTY food court. Still we go ahead assuming taste will be ultimate prize. but you know what that too was disappointing. Masala dosa : avg Aloo tikki chat : horrible Chole bhature : none of us liked, it was chewy tasteless paneer butter masala: no salt in dish, even after adding salt it was same horrible. garlic naan: it was good. End result, we remain hungry, lots of food wastage we did ( I am sorry I hate that but no option this time) we went to some other place to eat. read more

Stale food. If it's a dish that can be made ahead, it probably was and will be stale. Been here a few times and had the dhokla, idly, vada; all were stale enough to have a dry crust on them. Yuck. You're better off ordering something like a poori or dosa which will be made to order. Dry gobi manchurian was so gloppy, it was as though they were fished out of the gravy dish and served to us. I used to go here when I lived in the neighborhood three years ago. You might need help ordering at first but you will not be disappointed, and the staff are patient with white people stumbling in looking lost (at least they were with me). The food is delicious. As shared by other yelpers, the yogurt dishes might be difficult for some...but i enjoyed them. The comments about the ambiance are true. Very loud, bad lighting, and plastic tables and chairs but hey...I came for the food. As far as price, my orders usually ended up being about 8 dollars and some change. read more

Clearly this place is amazing. It all started when I was young with the obsession of Taj Chaat! Pani Puri to be exact. As the years go our constant journey (from a nearby state) led us Dallas for a mini vacation. Now they have this lovely charm and it absolutely hits the spot just as before. Not only is it comfort food, its the fact that the food actually tastes fresh and the way that it is suppose to! Pani Puri is a must! Eat it just the way it is meant to be eaten! Standing and waiting for the pani puriest to make you a fresh mouthful of goodness. The dosa is crisp and as spicy as you want it to be. DON'T FORGET THE THUMPS UP! Great food but staff is difference here. Dosas made in front of you by a sweet smiling chef. Counter help checking and double checking if you have everything. Need a fork? Need more sauce? These people know how to turn a food machine of a restaurant into a homey place for girlfriends, businessmen and families. I'm really glad I checked Yelp before I came here with a friend! The people behind the counter are super helpful if you look lost, which we did. Two of us ordered the North Indian thali, plain dosa & naan. I think. Either way it was under $20 and everything we tried was delicious. the sauce bar in the middle is fantastic. There's a thick thingie, and a thin thingie. Obviously I don't know what I ate or ordered but I can tell you it tasted delicious. I was completely stuffed because the thali comes with 5 different items & a samosa. I felt like I gained 5 lbs in one sitting but it was worth it. The dosa was crispy and filled with something, I'm guessing chickpeas. So good and very filling. I saw a table of business looking types who knew the drill and ordered one dosa each for their whole meal. Did I mention the dosa is $3.50? You can't beat those prices! Highly recommend, come with an adventurous friend or someone who knows what they're ordering. read more

The quality and flavor of dishes has deteriorated so rapidly, that this place is no longer worth eating at. The pani puri n chat items lacked the spicy chat flavor and oomph. When I took my bhel puri back and told the lady it was 'sweet', she asked me what I wanted her to do about it?!! Duh! Even the dosa and vada are now missing the trademark flavors that used to make us drive all the way to the Irving Taj Chaat House. You have to try a dosa, which is like a big crepe, filled with a little bit of whatever traditional fillings that you order with it (potato, chick peas, masala spices). Excellent, healthy food. Not too expensive, unless you're really hungry and want to chow down. Very polite staff in a slightly hectic work environment. There are two complimentary, self-serve soups to enjoy, as well as many homemade chutneys. My dinner companion and I had a filling dinner involving many à la carte dishes for about $32, but these types of foods are considered more like snacks, I think. Try it for a snack, and have a whole meal, if you like. That's what we did. Clean, neat, and the menu is about as understandable as they can make it, for non-Indians... but I don't like eating off of styrofoam plates, folks. read more

I think I left the US. This place is like Vegetarian's version of an Indian Piccadilly. Ok, at first I was disappointed that I couldn't just walk in and order some chicken tikka masala. But after I found a friendly, english speaking, employee to explain the card system, I couldn't stop ordering! No matter what your Indian fancy, they have a gazillion delicious versions of it. This place has the best vegetarian Indian Street Foods (Chaat), and the prices are really reasonable! We usually get their pani puri, which have just enough kick in the chutneys. Also, we usually get their samosa chaat, which has a large size samosa in the cut into pieces. Bad customer service. I complain that half of my dosa has a strong bitterness taste. I was treated like I'm scamming and made me feel like I am just making it up instead of investigating the cause of what making it bitter. We drive a long way and we always ordered same thing. This is the first time that I tasted that bitterness. My husband tried it and it almost shocked him coz of that weird bitterness. I end up throwing my food in the trash, scared to even eat it. Taj Chaat House has still got it. For the consistency alone, I will bump my original rating up from a 3.5 to a 4. After a long hiatus from Dallas, this was literally the first place I went after stepping off the plane. I felt nervous -- you know how sometimes the memory of your long-cherished favorites don't always stand up to the test of time? Well, I was worried for nothing. The tomato-onion uthappam was every bit as mouth-watering as I remembered, as was the mysore masala dosa. And the chutney powder and coconut chutney -- still my favorite accoutrements to the uthappam and dosa. Even better, they now have two types of sambar -- Madras and Andhra (the Andhra as more veggies, fewer lentils and is spicier). A minor critique -- wish they would phase out all the Styrofoam in place of compostable or biodegradable paper goods or, even better, stainless steel plates that get washed and reused. Otherwise -- TCH remains my favorite pre- and post-airport food stop. I'll make sure to find excuses to go in between flights as well! read more

I tried North Indian thaali and I must admit that it gave me a feeling as if I was back home in India. I travelled from New Jersey to Fort Worth for personal business and drove this place to try Indian food. Don't expect a great ambience, mostly packed on weekends and not the cleanest. But for the price of food, it's pretty good. Must visit for dosa and chaat. We visited from Detroit and saw the reviews so ended up going there. I wasn't really impressed. I got manchurian, paneer dosa and dahi puris. Manchurian was okay..nothing out of the ordinary. I was a bit disappinted with the paneer dosa because everywhere I go and eat there, the paneer is usually shredded and inside the dosa and cooked with the dosa. At Taj, they just gave it to me on the side. Dahi puris were delicious...but the picture had 6 puris and I only got 5.. :) read more

I hope I could give less than one star here. We went again today to Taj hoping that the service would have improved this time but I feel sad to report that the service is still bad and it's getting worse day by day. We ordered take away this time and we were told that it should take 10~15 minutes which is reasonable and we waited but we ended up waiting almost an hour and I had to remind them multiple times that I am still waiting but nothing happened. Finally I had to ask them to cancel my order and then they got my order in 5 minutes. It makes sense if they are busy but today they were not even crowed. I would again say that Taj is loosing its name and reputation. read more
