Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan This was quite possibly some of the most bland Indian food I have ever had. The chicken was overcooked and dry and the dish just so sad. The garlic Naan looks beautiful but was equally tasteless. I was so bummed out by this meal!

Found this great spot for Indian cuisine tucked away in a strip mall plaza. But the full parking lot quickly showed how popular this place was. Inside was casual, with a few tables but don't be fooled. The food was amazing. We ordered a spicy fish curry, which definitely came with a kick. If you can handle the heat, it has really amazing flavors. The chicken biriyani was also really food. The suble level of sweetness was a nice touch, the rice also paired great with the curry. We would return to try their other dishes. Recommend!

Spices of India is about 2 minutes from my mom's house so we often go here whenever we crave Indian food. We always get the butter chicken with garlic naan. I enjoy their food however the customer service isn't great and I do feel that they're pretty expensive. I believe we use to get the yellow Biryani rice but now it's just white, not sure of why the change. However, the chicken is juicy and they do give you alot of sauce. I always get mild because medium is truly spicy.

I got the chicken samosa, roasted beef with biryani rice, naan and kerala parotta. The food was really good and had great flavor and spice to it. One thing to note is that the chicken samosa order comes with only 1 chicken samosa. I got it to-go and the service was good. Will be back again!

Visited Dallas during fall break. Wow! So much great food and fun. Bought take out from Spices of India. It was an awesome recommendation from my cousin. We ordered different dishes and shared like family style. Great idea! We tried a little bit of everything. We had about six different entrees. We had Chicken Tikki Masala, Chicken Korma, Chicken and Goat Biryani, Mutter Paneer, Butter Chicken and each entree came with a rice based dessert. It was so tasty! The garlic naan was so so. I have had better. Didn't dine inside so not sure what the restaurant looked like. Service was great since all of our dishes were made and packed correctly. I will return when I visit Dallas again.

Was considering going to the new "Indian fine dining" restaurant at Water Street, but the more I read their reviews weighed against their prices, I decided I needed to investigate other options since my main desire was "great Indian food" that didn't need to come with white table cloths and and a view of the lake. D Magazine recently referred to "Spices of India Kitchen" as the "hidden gem" in their February 15, 2024 "Best Indian Restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth" article. Being less than 10 miles from me and after reading their mostly glowing reviews, I was convinced I needed to give them a try. Ordered the butter chicken and lamb roast, both with biryani rice as well as the garlic naan. Even though the dining room seems more than adequate, I got the order "to go". Everything was delicious! Definitely some of the best tasting Indian food I've experienced over the years. So many more things I want to try from the menu including the seafood options that might be best eaten there, fresh from the kitchen. Next time!

Uncovering a "HIDDEN GEM" - A Voyage across the Backwaters of 'God's own Country' KERALA, at the 'SPICES of INDIA KITCHEN' in Irving, TX! Check it out! KERALA is one of the four (4) Southern States of INDIA (the others being TAMIL NADU, ANDHRA PRADESH and KARNATAKA) and is well known for its natural beauty, cruises on House Boats in its backwaters, colorful festivals, Yoga and Naturopathy (Ayurveda) Healing Centers, exotic dance forms like Mohini Attam and Kathakali, as well as a rich tapestry of culinary traditions and delights, including sumptuous seafood marinated with local spices, herbs, coconut, the famous pot tamarind and served up in traditional banana leaves. We chanced upon 'SPICES of INDIA' in Irving thanks to my research and uncovered a "Hole in the Wall" that is a true gem - the kind I love to discover and introduce to my fellow foodies in this community...a welcome change from the fine-dining restaurants and lounges that we frequent most of the time! 'SPICES of INDIA' is run by Chef-Resturanteur JOBY KARUNAKARAN, his cousin DARVIN and his Chef VERGHESE (Syrian Christians who speak Malayalam and call themselves "Malayalees") who come from TRICHUR aka THRISSUR, the third largest urban center in KERALA after KOCHI and KOZHOKODE, and is well known for its rich cultural (the "Cultural Capital of Kerala") and culinary heritage. We commenced the expedition with their FISH CUTLETS followed by the GOLDEN POMPANO FRY (rice flour coated, spiced and fried) which we loved and followed up with the SPICY RED FISH CURRY (a traditional recipe) that did not go down well with our Bengali/East Indian Palate because of the strong odour of the fish...we had them concoct the SEA BASS FILLETs with the same spices as the GOLDEN POMPANO which were a huge hit and complemented the slow cooked GOAT ROAST that we loved and highly recommend! You love the HYDERABAD, THALAPAKATTU (Chettinad style) and BENGALI MUTTON BIRYANIS, but have you ever experienced the 'MALABAR aka the THALASSERY MUTTON BIRYANI'?! The high point of our culinary expedition was the iconic THALASSERY GOAT BIRYANI known as the 'MALABAR BIRYANI' outside KERALA. It is made with a premium quality short grain rice called the KAIMA RICE (unique to the Malabar Coast in Kerala) with GOAT MEAT, spices, green chillies, tomatoes, yoghurt, dry fruits (cashews) and raisins which renders a unique sweet and spicy flavor profile that was novel and scrumptious...the 'MALABAR BIRYANI' alone is a good reason to check out and return to SPICES of INDIA, IMHO! A compelling debut experience with excellent customer service from this extended family of Malayalees from KERALA who are passionate and proud of their culinary heritage and will bend over backwards to please their customers with their culinary skills and their customer service. We will return to sample their GOAT CURRY, the MEEN MOLLY (Fish cooked in Coconut Milk with spices and herbs), the GOLDEN POMPANO FRY and of course, the THALASSERY MUTTON BIRYANI aka the MALABAR MUTTON BIRYANI that we cannot get enough of! CAVEAT EMPTOR: this is a modest "hole-in-the-wall" establishment so please do not expect a fancy ambiance or any semblance of opulence - please take the time to savor their novel cuisine and recipes that you won't find at any other INDIAN RESTAURANT in the DFW Metroplex! Check it out: 'SPICES of INDIA KITCHEN' 833 East Shady Grove Road A, Irving, TX 75060. Tel # (214) 751-6468. Broken glass piece found in sambhar rice
    Sejal S.

Unsafe Food Handling! I ordered sambhar, butter chicken, rice & rotis from this place. while I was eating the sambhar & rice directly from the takeout container, I found a huge piece of broken glass in my food. I noticed it on time, otherwise I would've had an injury inside my mouth. It was horrible! I was so disappointed that I had to throw the entire order. This is completely unacceptable. I mean finding that kind of glass piece in food is not a joke, it is not a minor careless mistake. It justifies how they handle their food in such an unhygienic & in a careless way. Also, the side micro sized dessert I got was tasting sour & bad.

Spices Of India Kitchen is a culinary gem! From the moment I walked in, the aroma of Chicken Biryani was absolutely divine so we ordered it - each grain of rice perfectly infused with flavors, tender chicken pieces, and just the right amount of spice. The portion size was generous, ensuring I left completely satisfied. The ambiance was cozy, and the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. This is undoubtedly my go-to spot for delicious Indian cuisine. MUST TRY!

Hidden GEM!! Must try it! Butter Chicken & Paneer & Lamb Curry & Naan were excellent dishes! Yummy food! We will be back. The atmosphere to me seemed like an India Starbucks coffee shop with people working on laptops & on calls. Just cool!

If you're coming here it's definitely for the food. Excellent cuisine. So fresh and fragrant. You won't be disappointed.

I haven't had vada pav sliders before but the filling is kind of like fried samosa filling without the dough. It's good. The serving size of the biryani was very impressive. The chicken is cooked perfectly, the sauces are a great complement and this is an excellent dish. The Lunch Thali gives you a lot of bang for your buck and mine included ~5 pieces of fish fry, about the same amount of veg pakora, yogurt dip, chicken curry with rice, 2 different soups, a naan/tortilla thing, and a carrot dessert (like a halwa). All had good flavor and the soups have a nice spicy kick to them. However, since all the dishes for the thali come off the lunch line (ie all premade), the tortilla, fish and pakoras had been sitting out for awhile and not too hot. Had they come out fresh from the fryer, I might have given this experience 5 stars. As it stands, I'll probably be back for lunch anyways - and the thali is available 7 days a week!

From the moment we arrived, the visit felt very different from what I would expect at a welcoming restaurant. We were greeted politely at first, but shortly after, two non-Indian customers walked in, and the waitress immediately went over to welcome them and bring them water. We had not been offered water at that point. When she eventually came to our table, she asked if we were ready to order but did not seem fully present or attentive while we were speaking. We then had to ask if we could also get water. When it was brought out, one of the glasses was broken. Later, when we pointed it out and asked for another glass of water, there was no apology or real acknowledgment, which was very disappointing. We had to keep asking for water unlike other non Indian tables. The food itself was mediocre, but the service was what made the experience unacceptable. It felt like we were treated differently compared to other guests, and that is not something I expected or appreciated. Unfortunately, I will not be visiting again.
